Rumor: Fallout: New Vegas features

- Similar to Dragon Age: Origins, at character creation the player can select from different background stories. The first few hours of the game are different depending on which background you choose, and you get some unique perks based on your background when the main game begins.

Arcanum. (beat with an ugly stick is my favorite) :P
There were no vignettes tied to the backgrounds in Arcanum.

An OEI developer with the username Mustang posted this in New Vegas thread at the OEI boards:

God, I love the internet sometimes.

(I'll post something with substance someday, I promise!)

Interpret as you will.

the racing part sounds a lot like id's Rage (it would be awesome if they could use that engine - but unlikely)

the ghoul blast sounds like something from diablo

all in all it sounds very promising if it's true

Maybe vehicles will make fast-travel possible.

I guess the worldmap will have many smaller maps and not one big as in Fallout 3. Else I can't really believe that the desert of New Vegas can "dwarf" the capital wasteland.

one more thing about this game: i sure hope they will use some proper ambient music for this game. Because one of the worst things about beths Fallout 3 was the soundtrack...god...it was HORRIBLE!

Will there be any chance that mark morgan will be making the soundtrack for the game? that would be like a dream come true!

I must say that the rumors are making me quite enthusiastic about this.

Only thing better than reimplementation of Van Buren's ideas would be if they included a signed copy of Todd Howard's death certificate.

To be honest, if any of this is true (different backgrounds) and wipespread to the many characters of the fallout universe; Bethesda will oblivion-ize it.

YOU know what i mean, the many races of oblivion will now become the many creatures apon fallout.. Super Mutant path? possibly. GHOULS? maybe. Lone wanderer? Raider? EnclavE? Tribal?

*COUGH

MORE EDGY!!!!

i guess anything going near fallout i have to bandwagon...

Noes! Race selection (SuperMutant, Normal and Ghoul) should have been present in FO3 (either VB or Beth's FO3) with all pertinent changes in quests, dialogs, etc.

Of course in a game where most ghouls are "feral", (with both ferals and non-ferals being shot on sight) and where Supermutants are mindless orcs... the point in moot.

I lived around Vegas for a few years and one thing about it is that it's surrounded by miles and miles of nothing. It's literally in the middle of a vast desert. I'd say that it can definitely dwarf the capital wasteland and a vehicle would make sense.

Also, the GI guy only denied that it's the cover story, doesn't mean that there won't be a NV story in the next issue.
