Running Fallout Fixt 0.81a Through Steam

RevReese

First time out of the vault
Hi!

I posted in the official thread, but thought it may get better views in its own thread.

Firstly, a HUGE thanks to the mod author for this incredible mod, this mod has been the sole reason that I jumped back into Fallout!

I want to run Fallout Fixt 0.81a through Steam and have it count my play time, but currently I can only run Fixt via its shortcut (which bypasses Steam and does not count my time), or use the Steam shortcut (which only loads Vanilla Fallout NOT Fixt).

Following a post from the official thread, I replaced falloutw.exe and fallout.cfg in the Steam folder with the ones from the Fallout Fixt folder, but loading from Steam (even though I replaced the exe) just loads the vanilla game.

I know it is only a small thing, but an old version of Fixt allowed me to run it via Steam and I cannot get it to do the same now with 0.81a.

If anyone has any suggestions or has managed to get it working with Steam then I am all ears! :)

Thank you for your time!.

Has anyone managed to get Fixt 0.81a working through Steam?

For now, i have added it as a Non-Steam game but it is not ideal as it does not track my time.

Just play it with Fallout running in the background. It's an old game so it does not take a lot of juice (unless you have a 12 years old computer or something) That's just what I did.

Thanks for your reply! :)
That is exactly what I will do! (until there is a new release or something that may change things, or someone has a fix).

This should be fixed in next release.

EDIT: Basically there will be an installer option to say "Yes please overwrite some of the Fallout folder's files, allowing me to play directly through Steam interface."

Fallout Fixt will still stay in its subfolder to keep your Fallout folder clean, but a handful of files will be placed directly in the Fallout folder such as fallout.cfg, falloutw.exe, etc etc.

Fantastic! a new release coming? looks like i will soon be diving back into a new game of Fallout! thank you! :)

Awesome find thank you! :)

Sadly didn't work for me (crash with unknown error) so i will keep launching it the above way until the next version comes out.

Thanks again!
Make sure you put the quotes around the path in the .txt document. It should look something like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout\Fallout Fixt\Play Fallout Fixt.lnk"

That's assuming your Steam folder is in Program Files (x86) and your Fallout Fixt folder is in the Fallout folder. If you have them in different folders, you'd have to change the path accordingly. Also, the extension for "Play Fallout Fixt.lnk" is a lowercase L, not an uppercase I. In other words, it's "Play Fallout Fixt.LNK," not "Play Fallout Fixt.INK." For converting the bat to an exe, I used this one. Let me know if you have anymore trouble.

Thanks for your reply.
I confirmed i had the correct path and spelling with the quotation marks.
Then i installed the software and created the exe but although it did not crash with an error, it froze my Steam requiring me to eventually kill the process.
Nevermind, guess i will just wait for the next release! :)

Sorry for the necro, but I recently decided to try Fixt and had the same issue and this thread came up on my google search on how to play Fixt through Steam. And didn't help, since AFAIK there has been no new version of Fixt, it's still 0.81a. In the end I figured it out on my own.

The issue is that the Fallout launcher the Steam version uses doesn't execute FALLOUTW.exe but FALLOUTWHR.exe. If you want the launcher to run Fixt, install Fixt wherever and then copy all the files to your Fallout installation folder, replacing the files already there. Then remove FALLOUTWHR.exe and give that name to Fixt's FALLOUTW.exe, just moved there. Finally alter fallout.cfg and make sure the paths for music, critter_dat and master_dat are correct. If you did it this way the values should be: data\sound\music, critter.dat, master.dat respectively.

Hope this helps others in the future.

Thanks for posting that, I'm still waiting for the new version to come out with that option to actually play it through steam.

There's still no new version for the mod since two years so we can't actually play it through steam, does anyone know if they are working on It or if they abandon It?
