Everyone has nuclear weapons so I seriously doubt there will be serious, globe ending warfare. If nukes would be used, which I highly doubt, they would be tactical and on an escalation basis, like you nuke a city I nuke a city.
What I do see though is proxy fighting on steroids if the big countries come to play.
Taiwan for example would be a major test between an aspiring, autocratic China and western ideals. Thanks to modern technology, any invasion of Taiwan will be seen in advance. China will sacrifice most if not all of her obsolete military strength and then rely on their limited but modern aircraft carriers like the type 2 and.maybe 3s and aircraft like the WZ 10 and J 20.
If we get involved, the fighting would most likely be limited engagements in a few strategic areas, with Xi deciding whether China can afford to slug it out with the U.S., while dealing with COVID and sanctions He would probably return to the status quo. Without our help, the Chinese would probably achieve a short term victory but deal with a very long insurgency, with American image and honor I'm tatters. Nobody will ever trust us to defend them again. Japan, S. Korea, Australia, many countries will obtain nuclear weapons for deterrence. Without a reliable hegemon, the world will likely become like Europe after the fall of Rome, with proxy wars instead of nations vs nations.
