Russian fan project: Fallout Online

I would assume they took Gordian's method with the knot to it; remove the map, make it all one continuous area (probably a big city)

That would work, but again....NOT FALLOUT.

Time to shut my yap on this one. It`s getting too frustrating just thinking that a fan would do this to Fallout.

Well, I don't like it much either, but I'm kind of looking at it like I look at Wasteland Merc. It's shit, has nothing to do with Fallout, but might be interesting for other modders to see what they did and how they worked.

That is true. The idea looks good and seems promising. I would suggest that they mention it is based LOOSELY on Fallout, that Fallout is the basis of the project as far as graphics and models are concerned, But has now become something that is not Fallout but just another online game, for your other than Fallout, gaming pleasure.

It wasn't Gordian who cut the knot, it was Gordian who tied it. Twas Alexander who cut it.

With that historical misstep out of the way i think you could pull off the wastelands along with the cities. First it couldn't have the world map. Second it couldn't have one continuous map. The best idea is to have a mass transit system of sorts. The caravans would be the intercity transportation for new characters and eventually you could buy a car, but then you've got fuel ;) Now before the transit starts it will calculate if you'll have an encounter if so, how many. Naturally there are more dangerous caravans(high pay) that have more encounters and an almost completely safe method(little pay). The real trouble comes in with the First Aid and Doctor skills, along with the books and other similar things. Which I suppose could all be fixed through extensive scripting.

Most, if not ALL of the quests would have to run in an instance to preserve the "hero" aspect of a character. Or the other way, your just a normal guy(or gal) trying to make it in the wastes. if you want to be a hero, you've got to be one yourself.

And of course with the avid fanbase that Fallout has, you could allow players to create player factions(instead of guilds) that would then issue quests to faction members and faction hopefuls, even faction wars complete with, allies, merc contracts, money making operations, bases, and NPC's (hired through special NPC's) that would be the way to do FOOL. Have all the cool stuff player driven, I could easily see a Neo-Enclave or something of a sort.

Oh, for fuck's sake, not again.

- Fallout is a wasteland. Wasteland means very few people. MMORPG's automatically contradict that.

- Turn-based combat in the world: pschyeah right.

- Fallout was about the lone hero, not the thousands of heroes as well.

- Alternating speeds of time, does not work in any way. Having a 'mass transit system' again creates a world where spending time is completely irrelevant.

- 'Have all the stuff player driven' again contradicts the spirit of Fallout immediately.

Contrary to all the skepticism you guys are giving this project....If this game the features the following stuff..then Im all in

Jet creation and distribution
gang factions/ turf wars
Bigger Reno Map
hookers
pimping
huge maps

YEA SOME OF YOU MAY DISLIKE ONLINE PLAY AND THNK THIS IS A BAD IDEA... BUT ITS BETTER THAN JUST SITTING HERE BITCHING ABOUT FO3 and not having anything... COME ON GUYS FOR NOSTALGIA SAKE!

I had a quick read with babelfish, it mentions Ian out as its nearest competitor: this would suggest yet another new F2 engine in the works.

I will get one of Team MIB to translate that first post on the rus forum.

They prolly mean "ianout" ;-)

It was the project of SztupY: he worked on it in 2003 and 2004. I joined the team and searched for new coders but suddently SztupY didn't want to work together with them. We did found FIFE without SztupY and we're still around :-)

I hope that clears things up a bit.

Other issues aside, is this a fan/non-profit project or are they planning to steal the license for Fallout?

Hi.
The first: it not new game. It is new mod Fallout2.
The second: the project not commercial. By gamers for gamers. Translation into other languages is not planned.
The third: it not screenshoots games. Look a videoclip. It is already closer.
The fourth: we do not try to make LA3, WoW2 or Diablo3. The main thing to keep spirit of game.
The fifth: forgive for my English:)
P.S. Do not ask what for we it we do. Slavs - the strange nation.
P.P.S. from Cvet (the main programmer of the project) Early to divide a skin of not killed bear!

Translates to : Don't count your .... chickens, before they hatch!

Used here as well. You think in terms of ...chickens, us - on an ursine degree of magnitude. Slavs for teh win!

Here in Portugal we say Don't get the cart ahead of the oxes, which reflects somewhat our technology up untli some decades ago (well, before th 70's actually) :?

That doesn't make sense. How are the oxen supposed to haul the cart if they're not ahead of it?
