Russian-Ukrainian war

norway and germany are in very different geographic and political positions. And no, im not too happy about russia invading other countries however in the big picture russia is losing this situation, especially since the west is now right up against its border and because of its geographic location that is a much worse thing than it would be for other countries.

Crimea allows them to better defend themselves and id honestly rather have the russians and their nuclear weapons stable.

So does the western part of Europe... Well, at least wish me luck, if this line of thinking will stay prevalent i'm going to need it.... facing Ak's and whatnot

Remember that the dick-waving they're doing in Kaliningrad is to be expected when tensions are so high. There will always be an element of muscle-flexing in situations like this. Remember our good friend Bush? "With us or against us! You fuckers work that one out >;I"

I am maybe too overly pollitically open minded, but let's say it's true, let's say Ukraine is governed by far right people.

It's still doesn't provide enough reasons to invade a sovereign country.

Far right or communism are not crimes by itselves. Even if many communists & far right government indeed commited crimes, it is not the form of government that is a crime on itself. You have to tell me which crimes the new born ukraine government commited.

The media keeps telling the world that Russia is invading Ukraine, so far, no soldiers were sent there, only diplomats. There IS a military base there, but that is the same as saying that the US is invading NZ because they have a base there.

this topic is becoming a weee bit to hostile. Maybe we need some special force to invade it and secure it :V

Nay, we must first make up stories about fascist admins deleting the accounts of people who don't worship the ground Putin walks on. Because obviously only fascists would ever dare disagree with us, amiright?

how dare people to attack our beloved putin-kun!

*I swear, for a nation that is so homophobic, they sure love their "I am so manly, my balls dont grow hair because they are made of steel" image.

I'm not an expert on the subject, actually most people (before this event) wouldn't know anything about the history of the Crimea, and Russia's relationship to it. I am surprised by the local peoples strong affinity to Russia, I wish we could hear from well spoken Russian/Ukrainian supporters of the invasion to get their opinions and understand their feelings towards the new government.

The new government might just have to accept it has lost this region, and focus on the other parts of the Ukraine that desperately need assistance - investment. Meanwhile the West could put a squeeze on Russia's economy, social and sporting aspirations. Kick them out of FIFA (no world cup), expel them from the Olympic movement, end all international sporting events in the country...the same for the G8 - boot their arses out of all world economic events, etc.

Europe should end all gas and oil imports (might be difficult) and take up the US excess oil and gas reserves, as well as Australia's massive natural gas supplies. Of course this is just a silly fantasy, and no one really knows how this will play out, but one thing is for sure, those countries boarding Russia will be feeling very uneasy if the West sits by and does nothing.

I feel sorry for Russians, Putin has put the country in a difficult position. :|

I just want countries to guzzle as much gas/oil as is possible, as much as possible, from wherever. The sooner the oil age ends the better, I think.

what ever the reasons behind this all is. I guess not all russians are thinking the same after all.

One very scary fact that everyone (media and diplomats) are glossing over at the moment is the Russia's defacto declaration of war on UK and USA.

Based on the wording of the 1994 Nuclear treaty , which Russia is violating, UK and USA are treaty bound to respond to evict the Russians and protect the borders of Ukraine.

It (Crimera breaking off and joining Russia) had to come from internal choices for UK & US to stay passive (which current US admin would very much like to do)

Anyone who here can read Russian, read up. http://uglich-jj.livejournal.com/57674.html (warning, gruesome images are present)
These are the people who are coming to power in Ukraine. Overall, all those people were killed because they were not Ukranian.

I don't read Russian, but.... All of these pictures are black and white. I'm pretty damn sure Ukraine isin't stuck in the 1940's. So I have absolutely no idea how the hell this is relevant in any way, shape or form.

Oh, and if we start cataloging grievances between Russia and Ukraine, I'm preeetty sure the Russians come up looking like the biggest assholes by far. Holodomor anyone?

He refers to atrocities committed by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army against ethnic Poles, in a bid to create an independent, purely Ukrainian Ukraine. It's one of the most controversial and bloody elements of our shared history.

Still, it's a ridiculous stretch of imagination to state that neo-fascists run Ukraine and will institute nationalist, racialist purges of non-Ukrainian peoples. The far right is a minority and currently enjoys temporary exposure and popularity due to the presence of a number of right wingnuts in the interim government. The support for the far right is complex and ambiguous, but that doesn't stop various people from crying FASCISTS. Especially the left, the far left, and Ukrainian Antifa.
