The title says it all. The gaming industry floods us with huge loads of sequels and remakes and everything but original IPs, but somehow, those games that NEED a sequel don't get one.
Crimson Skies, for example. I loved that game and I loved that world.
And it seemed that Crimson Skies had quite a shiny future to look out for.
It was based on a FASA-boardgame, there were a lot of novels set in that universe written, and there was a sequel for the XBox.
But what about PC-users? I want a new goddamn Crimson Skies game!
Imagine gameplay like Freelancer... Awesome.
Oh right, Freelancer.
Another awesome game that deserves a real sequel. I don't think I need to elaborate on that.
Another game that needs a sequel would be Kingpin: Life of Crime. That game was awesome. Gritty and violent way before gaming industry decided that grit and violence means making games in gray and brown colours and forcing the player to walk a straight line to the exit.
I really liked the setting, especially the more industrial areas, the Steel Mill and the Chemical Plant. The Pitt from Fallout 3 reminded me of that, the main reason I liked The Pitt better than the other DLC abominations.
Kingpin was cool, simple as that.

So, folks, any other sequels you want to see but are unlikely to see the light of the day?

I'd much rather see original titles than more sequels and reboots.

I guess there's a few forgotten gems with some potential. Like Sanitarium. Or Streets of Rage. I'd play a new Streets of Rage, but there's a bit of a dearth of good beat-em-ups overall.

I second Crimson Skies, that game was awesome.

Dungeon Keeper 3 and Bioforge 2 were other games I was really looking forward to but will never see the light of day.

Moonstone :)

This video contains intro, some initial gameplay and then the guy just dies repeatedly to show gore ...

The same guy plays for over an hour here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJ4uyD6yVdw

Some of the text here will be borrowed from the wikipedia article since I just remeber the feeling and the main points.

Link to wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moonstone:_A_Hard_Days_Knight

"The player takes on the role of a chosen knight who is sent by the druids to return the mystical 'moonstone' to Stonehenge. The game supports between 1 to 4 players at once, with the computer controlling any knights not controlled by human players as rival NPCs."

So yeah, you could hot seat it.

"Gameplay consists of two distinct modes: Turn based exploration and real time combat.

In turn based mode where each player can move a limited distance on the game's world map and visit various locations. Players will mostly visit the many dolmens that are scattered across the map. These places represent areas guarded by enemy beasts. Visiting these dolmens will trigger the second main gameplay mode: real time combat. The player takes control of his chosen knight and attempts to defeat the beasts using sword combat"

I remeber the fights so well - I wass terrified the first time I came up against a swamp monster (Mud Man) - it would kill you instantly if you did not move at once (initial opening deadly special move)

Ah, the quest for magical items, visits to cities and wizards, and those terrible monsters and of course the other knights.

"The overall objective of exploration is to find the lair that holds one of the four keys. The player who gathers together all four keys (either by finding them or by stealing them from rivals), will have access to the Valley of the Gods at the center of the map. The knight will have to fight against the Guardian in order to win a 'moonstone'. The moonstone corresponds randomly to a lunar phase, and grants the knight more power during that phase. The moonstone must be returned to Stonehenge for the game to be completed."

Oh, sweet - you can even get it today: http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/153/Moonstone+-+A+Hard+Days+Knight.html (Bah, XP :( Seriously - I am running Windows 7 64bit, if anyone can give me a solution making it possible to run this I'd be very happy)

A bit more meat, please, guys, don't just list names, list to how/why of it, descriptions, etc.

Updated mine after BNs post :)

Would appreciate some pointers on how to run it today (see final line in my last post)

My dream sequel would be Darksun 3 using the TOEE engine.

Oh man, that would be amazing, especially if it has some of the C&C structure of Darksun.

It'd probably also be as buggy as Darksun 2. Tradition!

A sequel to Last Window, itself the Sequel of Hotel Dusk, also a Sequel of Another Code, but Cing doesn't exist anymore....

Hah. For the longest time I thought the randomly disappearing inventory objects was part of the game as if my characters were cursed or something. The only part of Darksun 2 that was an improvement over the original was the CD soundtrack. The midi music from the original is still damn good.

I still enjoy Master of Orion II and Heroes of Might and Magic 3. The sequels for those were really disappointing (perhaps HMM5 wasn't so bad, but it has its bad bits)... I'd like to see better sequels...

The main point for me is to keep the gameplay similar - to improve on it, but to retain the look and feel, and perhaps add functionality, but to give me a whole new game space to explore. Sort of like going from Fallout to Fallout 2.

I'd like to see a new Chibi Robo game. The original had a great concept and was always brought up when my freinds and I had arguments about which console was superior. (I took the side of the Gamecube.) The sequel for the DS was good, but wasn't as great as the original. The screen on the wii u controller could be used to see things from Chibi's point of view.

Theme Hospital - This game was a Bullfrog gem, and good lord do I love playing it . It had a lovely sense of humour, I didn't find it to be too wildly complicated, and who doesn't love sending terminally ill patients home before they leave a corpse on your <Strike>filthy</strike> pristine hospital floor?

Theme Hospital is one game that certainly deserves an update - that is if it were to hold true to the spirit of the original. Humour held a paramount spot in the original ("Patients are asked not to die in the corridors. "), so were a reboot or sequel made then I would hope that humour is kept in mind. Also I would hope that the look of the game would stay similar - obviously vastly updated, but in terms of the style, it would again be nice to see a reboot stay true to the original.

I want to pop the heads of those with Bloaty Head.
I want to shoot mice running through my hospital.
I want to hire all the specialists so the competition has naught but morons working in their facilities.
I want Theme Hospital.

Thats a game I would love to see a sequel for, theme hospital, I spent many an hour playing that game on my brother's computer when I was young, and now I have it on my PS3, so all's never lost to me.

For some reason I always started a new playthrough of Theme Hospital everytime I came down with something that confined me to my room for more than a few days for several years. I never got past level 7 or 8 since I got better and got back to my regular routine.

Perhaps I'll do it again the next time I get heaped piles or an uncommon cold.

I got a couple more that desperately need sequels. First up is Sim Ant. You start off as a single ant then generate more colonies, fighting the evil red ants, killing spiders, collecting green food things, then eventually driving the humans out of their own house. It's awesome and was one of my favorite childhood games.

Next up is another one of my favorites, Designasaurus. The first one was kind of a simplistic side scroller/educational game. The second game was a top down almost survival type thing. You created a dinosaur out of lots of different parts. If you wanted a T-Rex with Pterodactyl wings you could do it. Fly around, sit in the trees, then eat another dinosaur. The goals were pretty random and silly, such as collecting floppy disks to proceed to the next time period. But it was fun and I want a new one.
