Seriously, no wild west RPGs?

I've been searching for a RPG with a wild west setting and can't seem to find one. Why? A good RPG could come out of a setting like that.

Anyone know of any? I'm looking for a more historical type of deal, but wouldn't mind some fantastical elements. Doesn't even have to be a good game, I just want to know if such a thing exists. Although, good is always a plus.

Only recent/coming western game that I can think of is Lead & Gold, but it's a shooter. I only checked it out since it's edited by Pdox, it looks fun though.

[EDIT] And looking again at the trailer actually brought me to Red Dead Redemption, looks more like what you're looking for, looks pretty cool actually !

Damn, is this for real? GTA-style western game. With the features presented in the video, I will without a doubt buy that. How can you pass the chance to drag someone behind a horse?

Maybe it's my childhood nostalgia of westerns coming to mind, but that game looks pretty frickin' awesome.

Apparently console only at the moment, but I'm sure it'll come to PC.

Wow, this sure looks awesome. I know, it's probably just like GTA IV , but damn...
I'd be very satisfied with that.

There's sadly a real lack of Western games, and certainly no Western-style RPGs. There was a real arcade-y one with some stats called GUN, but it certainly wasn't an RPG.

Sadly, the best Western game is 13 years old - Outlaws.

Yeah, you're right. I heard first from this game in this thread a few minutes ago and now I'm pretty much excited. Sure there isn't probably very much RPG in it but I like it. If one is able to built a tent in this game out in the wastes - god damn this would be awesome!

I just found out from Red Dead Redemption 5 minutes ago, and I became excited with seeing only the first minute :D There's something terribly attractive about that game, they better release it for PC too.

Red Dead Redemption is looking good, but I really disliked GTAIV, so I'm waiting for a demo.

Hundreds of (unbelievably void and boring) unique characters !! With their OWN personality characteristics ! Just wow !
Aside from that, the game looks awesomely beautiful

You can't accuse Rockstar of creating boring and void characters in their previous games. While I highly doubt there would be many choices to make with these characters (as evidenced by the fact that dialogue options aren't ever mentioned), I'd be pretty confident in saying that the characters will at least be interesting.

I didn't know of Red Dead Redemption before, but damn me if it isn't the game I'm most excited about now. well ok, I'm looking forward to New Vegas a bit more, but this definitely looks promising. can't wait for the sheriff to put a bounty on my head :D

Desperados 1,2,3 (Commandos like Rts)
Gun (GTA Clone) (Enjoyable but nothing special)
Red Dead (GTA Clone)
Call of Juarez 1,2 (Shooter) (Only played the second one and it was beautiful)

And lastly Outlaws (The FPS)

Short List if you don't include games like Lost Dutchman's Mine and like :P

For those of you interested in Red Dead Redemption, you may want to know that it's a sequel to Red Dead Revolver, which was PS2 and Xbox only. So this may be a console exclusive franchise, in-case any of you are wanting it for PC.

I got really far in Red Dead Revolver on my PS2, but then at a certain point the data kept getting corrupted so I never truly finished it. I also remember playing Gun back then.

Fun fact about Red Dead Revolver.

It started off as a Capcom property but was eventually dropped and picked up by Rockstar.

The story involved playing as multiple protagonists pushing forward a story of murder, revenge and evil circuses.

Copy that. For modern day standards it's probably highly simplistic, but it did some things right most games today seem to scorn. I was amazed by the atmosphere it created simply by meshing together the right music with the right setting, and weaving the story together with absolutely brilliant cut-scenes. I've still got the soundtrack stashed away in my music folder and, whenever my random play list happens upon one of its tracks, can't but listen to some of my favorite tracks.
