First time out of the vault
YO!!!

Shattered Oasis has been officially released!!!

www.shatteredoasis.com

make sure you all check out this awesome mod, its the best UT2k3 mod out to date and its heavilly inspired by Fallout... what can I say, it OWNS

If you have Unreal Tournament 2003 you are doing a disservice to yourself by not downloading this awesome mod.

I'm posting this here because I want to let everyone know that the mod is out, and as a Fallout fan and one of the leads on the project I want to hear what you guys think about it.

CHEERS :D :D :D :D :D

yes for now, the first release is multiplayer only, but we are working on a single player game type as well.

Have you guys made it into the "Make Something Unreal" finals? Sincerely, playing Jungle Warfare and Faceoff, I enjoy Shattered Oasis much more.

Best of luck to you and your team.

thanks guys, and no we didn't quite make it to the deadline for phase 1, but we did send it in and got really good feedback. Looking forward to winning phase 2 now :D

It seems very generic and unispiered... I just played another round, there were two servers and one was empty and the other had only 3 people in, so it wasn't that great. Hopefully you'll get more servers up.

The weapons don't seem very interesting and sometimes it hard to tell what they are (there's a shotgun, or atleast I think it's a shotgun, that they only way I could tell it was a shotgun was from the sound effect it made when fired and a guess from the magizine capacitiy)

The maps don't seem very interesting either, I've only played two of them, but they didn't scream post-apoc to me. (The most recent one i"ve play on was a rainy forest, with a lava river in the middle... )

Overall, I'm not impressed... doesn't seem like anything special (of course UT2K3 wasn't exactly stellar either ) Although I willl admit, if you're coming out with a single player version of it, I might try it out again, when that's finshed.

well, everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

just keep in mind that this is a mod, and we're just a bunch of guys making this in our free time, we don't get paid for it, and all we're trying to do is make something cool for other people to play.

Single player has been in the design stage for awhile, I'm the one who wants to make it, but as always games are a team effort. So we'll see what happens, I can't promisse anything, and UT2k3 being a mostly multiplayer game is not the greatest base for a single player game type, nothing is impossible though. Make no mistake about it, there's nothing I want more than to make this into an RPG ala Troika style, but with the limited resources that the modding community provides this is going to be quite difficult to pull off, though not impossible.

It's quite a valient effort... it'd be a shame to see it all for naught. As it stands, there really isnt' any reason to play this mod...

That might be interesting, all though I should think you'd probably have better luck just building a tradtional fps, with something special about it. Buliding a fps rpg is no easy feat, especially if the hearts of the team members arn't in it.

Okay, Captain Negative. You just might be the type of person J.E. Sawyer was talking about - the quote goes something to the effect of "There are people that will harp on the negative aspect of many things but will never praise the positive aspects. These people are worthless to the design process, as any good their sometimes-not-baseless negativity offers is shadowed by the fact that they've never offered anything positive, so they seem to be nothing but whiners."

Heh, yeah, poor Josh. It's his job, though, so professionaly, he should just suck it up and take the punches. Filter it all through for useful stuff and leave your hurt ego behind, it's an important aspect of any business, including game design.

Whether or not those people "seem" whiners is irrelevant if they offer relevant points...Ah, well, 'nough said...

All I felt the need to comment on was how poor I thought it was. Hopefully some improvements can be made and maybe it'll be a tasty little mod before long.

As is my wont to be, I might have been a little bit.. overly critical, of you. I just hate to see someone actually putting out material get discouraged due to a lack of positive feedback. I agree wholeheartedly that all types of feedback should be put forth and sifted through so as to gain an honest perspective on what is great and what needs improvement.

Sorry if I came off a little harsh.

Hmm...

Well, I understand negative feedback is necessary, but that seemed more like an outright attack than anything... "I'm not impressed...", "There isn't any reason to play this mod..."... Stuff like that is just demeaning, if you know what I mean.

Oh well, maybe I just looked at it the wrong way. Of course, my method of criticism may be different then yours.

lack of positive feedback, naw guys its cool, as I said before everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so it wasn't for axelgreese's taste, thats fine people are different you can't please everybody, and we're still improving every day.

as for positive feedback... lol over 1000 people downloaded the mod in 2 days it was out, a lot of them thought it was rather good and felt compelled to let us know, which is cool, and also we already got featured on a German TV show... where they said SO was potentially the most beautifull mod out for UT2k3. :D so I can't say we don't get enough positive feedback.

and yes we are improving, it will be really sweet by the end by the time spring comes around.
