Slavery in Fallout 3

Zoinker

First time out of the vault
I was wondering if it would be possible to change certain named characters so that they could be stunned by the mezzer (and thus enslaved), since this would imo make slaving much more fun.

I was thinking about the possibility of a Slaver Mod of sorts that would make every character enslavable except slaves, slavers and characters needed for the main quest (like Lyons and Dr. Li), as well as some other tweaks like being able to sell your companions (like in Fallout 2), certain characters turning up in Paradise Falls after being enslaved in case you want to continue their quests and the ability to buy more collars and more than 10 mezzer rounds at a time.

Unfortunately, I'm rather inexperienced in terms of modding, but I'm still interested in knowing whether it's possible to alter certain character's vulnerability to the mezzer without needing extensive modding tools.

To be honest, I think anyone can be mezzed (not sure about children due to the same non-killing factor). I once managed to mezz and enslave a Talon Company agent while he was attacking me.

The problem is that there's only a certain, small, percentage of success while the rest is berserk hostility and exploding heads. The exception is the quest NPCs, because I think they're preset to have a different percentage or something - but even then, it's possible to make them go hostile by accident with the thing, it's just a smaller chance for them.

What I'm essentially getting at is that all you'd need is a mod where the percentage of successful mezzing is increased, so it works on just about anyone.

I believe I did. To be honest, I get the feeling that Bethesda had more planned for the Mezzer, but backed out of it at the last second. Probably thought that frying peoples' brains and making them your slaves was too 'mature,' just like everything else they backed out on. So the Mezzer was likely never completed properly.

On a side-note, swapping out their gear was humorous. When I'd successfully Mezz people, I'd give them outfits like the Naughty Nightwear or Ragamuffin clothing. Then a hat of some sort. Then I'd slap a collar on and send them to Paradise Falls looking ridiculous.

I tried mezzing Lucas Simms, and his head just exploded, so I think this is what the OP is referring to.

I haven't messed around much with the mezzer much this playthrough (being a good guy this time.) I plan to experiment much more extensively next time

It wouldn't make much sense to get negative karma for enslaving an evil character. I would think it would balance out to nothing karma wise.

you get negitive karma for enslaving anyone, which is total bullshit. i thought i was gonna get around the bad karma thing by enslaving a raider but i didnt.... did get me a laugh though.

I don't really have a problem with bad karma from enslaving raiders, but I guess a somewhat lesser karma drop for enslaving evil people would be ok.

what I would really like to see would be a mod that adds your slaves as weak followers that cant be healed so I can escort them to paradise falls without having to sprint after them and hope the nearest yao guai eats them

In fact they'll have better chances without your escort like this trio (mr Arkansas unfortunetly eaten bullet earlier) I enslaved for strictly buisness quest; I enslaved them only to release them afterall and made the mistake of goining with them first time: they were all spoted and shot by slavers after five seconds :o ; so I reloaded, released them and took 24h nap in slaves quarters...
They all made it back
Anyway better mezmetron is the mod I'm waiting for...
Then Little lamplights brats here I come!

How would enslaving an evil character not be evil?

It seems sense to get bad karma for any enslavement you do.

It could be viewed as a form of karmic retrubition in and of itself. What more fitting punishment than enslaving a slaver?

IMO it should either break even or least be a reduced karma hit.

I'm glad to see all the feedback my idea has been getting, but I was sorta hoping to get some pointers on how to make it possible. I've been looking through the game files but haven't found any way to alter the mezzer effects on characters yet, so any pointers would be welcome.

No matter what the other party did, enslaving someone *remains* an evil act! What you (and by 'you' I mean the player) uses to justify it does not matter.
Karmatic retribution couldn't be brought on by another character - the main retribution of overly good or bad karma should be brought about by the karma itself.

My biggest gripe with slavery is when you collar someone you only dialogue options are to tell them to run to paradise falls. A good slavery mod would let you keep them and give them companion style control options. You should also be able to buy slaves in paradise falls and enslave more then one person at a time.

Whereas murdering them is ok? The karma system contradicts itself.

Well the collars belong to the slavers of Paradise Falls, and they will detonate them if they see them going anywhere else than directly to PF, so you'd at least have to make a stop at the Slaver Camp first if you'd want to keep the slaves.

I wonder if using the "killable quest essential NPCs" mod, I can mezz my dad!

I'll be the talk of the party!
My friends would ask: "So? Have you beaten Fallout3 yet?"
and I'd be like: "No, I can't.... I sold my dad into slavery!"

i would like to see it where you can mez and slave anyone.

perhaps main quest npc's only after the quest is finished.

i also would like to be able to keep a few people i slaved.

i did mez one of dukovs girls...the other one got ticked off and started attacking dukov...

I think that the "murdering" thing is supposed to be seen more like, "I killed them in self defense," or, "I killed them to rescue those poor captives." Also, depending on how you look at it, killing someone is far more kind than dooming them to a life of slavery.
