Slow Fading

Tuomas

First time out of the vault
I recently started to play FO2 again and sometimes the fading times take forever like 30 sec or so. Save and Load only takes like 1 sec but when i startup, die, first aid or do anything that has screen fading its really slow. This does not happen everytime so sometimes I just go into the game and the fading goes really quick but sometimes i need to restart the game like 10 times before getting lucky

Could it have something to do with these mods i have installed: Killap.unofficialFO2patch_final-A and the mod that equips all of your characters.

Comp specs: (CPU) AMD Athlon XP 2700+ (RAM) 512MB, NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 (64MB) (OS) Microsoft Windows XP Professional (SP2)

PS. I posted this here because of the mods, thanks for any help

Which mod is this?
Do you mean that it shows what armour your NPC party members have? I was wondering whether such a mod existed.

As for your problem...
This is a bit of a long shot but you could try running dxdiag and turning sound hardware acceleration off. You might not think audio has anything to do with it but I remember having to do this to make the original Grand Theft Auto work ok in win2k/xp without stuttering.

Far as i know, Killap.unofficialFO2patch_final-A isn't compatible with most of the mods.
Maybe you just experience incompabilities.

As far as i know you cant use killap with patches, the simple presence of the file Patch000.dat already modifies a lot of things that were changed on the patch, so if you wanna use killap, use it without mods or the 1.02 patch

I realized the same with my Fallout when I forgot to turn off WinAmp!

Maybe this is the cause of you slowed down fading?

Slow fading sometimes happens to me too (with or without my patch) I think it might have something to do with running Fallout 2 with Windows XP.

Nope, I use WinXP and I get either no fading or a quick flash of black screen. The only time the fade goes out is when I do a successful Doctor or First Aid then it's out for 5 secs, if that.

Well I too get no fade or it happens really quickly. (this happens the majority of the time) Only occasionally do I get REALLY slow fading and I have to exit the game and start it again. This never occurred under Windows 98 for me, so who knows. The fact that many people cannot play Fallout 2 under XP at all and others can means XP cannot be ruled out as an issue here.

Maybe its the winamp since im using it. I also get the quick flash of black screen but that doesnt bother me much. Ive gotten used to the rebooting already, but i will try it whitout winamp.

Yup, Winamp screws it up. No slow fading or those quick black flashes when winamp is closed. Damn, guess ill have to use browser to listen... like www.pandora.com or something

I was glad I could help, but try to EDIT your previous post, before making double, tripple..., septuple or other multiposts. Otherwise one of the Mods will have to put his bottle of Jack Daniel's away and hit you with a shoe. ;)
