So FO3 is being raped and FOPOS 2 is on.

Suicide is calling me.
My god, how I hate interplay. How do I know this info? Let's say, FOPOS 2 is pretty definate, I'd bet money on it, even though the first one hasn't been released yet. FO3 has some 'big decisions' coming up, which I suspect is why JE left. This one is more rumour, though from some strong sources. No, Briosafreak, not you. I'm just really pissed off right now.

"Big decisions"? What the fuck? Decisions on whether or not it will be a role playing game or a third person shooter? Decisions on whether or not it will feature Reinforced Thongs of Power instead of Power Armor? Decisions on whether or not it will be a console-only game? Just what "big decisions" are there to be made?! Either they are making Fallout 3 or not, there are no buts, no second thoughts, no ifs, no ors, no big decisions! "Big decisions" == screwing up Fallout! AGAIN! What the FUCK is wrong with those imbred, retarded, incompetent, idiotic, piss-drinking, trailer-trash morons from Interplay?! :x

I'm so pissed off one could fry a pancake on my forehead.

They are still rumours, Ratty, but it does seem a little strange that JE is leaving the building, doesn't it?

I myself have always been doubtful (and I am still very doubtful) about whether or not Fallout 3 will ever come into existence. In any case, I also doubt whether Fallout 3 would ever be accepted by true Fallout fans. Am I the only one who hates the fact that it's going to be in 3D? I hate 3D. 3D sucks all the juice out of my system when used in an RPG or an RTS. I find that very strange, since my system has no problem whatsoever with 3D FPS (Max Payne, Castle Wolfenstein, Medal of Honor Allied Assault...).

Why can't they just make a 2D Fallout 3, something like Arcanum? Because the graphics sucked in Arcanum, you say? Hm. Well, I liked them, they captured the perfect atmosphere. And I like the isometric perspective, since in 3D the camera very, very often just goes berserk (happens to me in Silent Storm, happens too often to still be enjoyable even though it's a great game).

Anyway, if Fallout 3 3D isn't going to be developed any further, I say: screw it. Just find some really good modders, take the Silent Storm editor and guys: make your own Fallout 3. Meh.

In any case, nothing, not even a high-end 3D engine will ever be able to capture the same atmosphere and gameplay from the first two Fallouts.

And that is why I am so glad that there is a game called Fallout Tactics. Still 2D, amazing graphics, post-apocalyptic atmosphere, great gameplay (opinions differ, I know). Laggy engine, though, but still a lot better than those f*****-up 3D rpgs they make nowadays. (Yeah, and I know Tactics wasn't an RPG.)

I rest my case.

Oh, and F*** you, Interplay! The only thing you've ever given us are good memories (Fallout...). You should be ashamed of yourself for neglecting us. I'll never buy anything with your name branded on it anymore. And you can quote me on that!

Damn, I'm pissed.

But 'rumours', you said...

If it's as bad as it seems, we can always disband the fan-sites and make them less future Fallout helpful....

Since I just have to vent my anger revolving around POS, here it comes.
POS SUXXXXX000RZZZ!!! I meant every word of it.

I used to feel the same way, but take a look at Temple of Elemental Evil - that's 3D on a prerendered background, and it looks pretty sweet. 3D isn't inherently bad, it just depends on how they implement it.

It`s just speculation by Mr.T for now, at least, i posted something about a presentation with a demo of FO3 to the Interplay suits, but i got a hint that there was a problem more serious going on so we needed to stay away of that issue until things got more clear.

How can anybody not like 3D? Look at Morrowind, Gothic 2 and Asheron's Call 2. Look how beautiful they look and how smooth they run. Look how beautifully animated the characters are. How wonderfully realistic and atmospheric the environments are. How good the water looks with various shaders applied to it. How cool it is when any change in equipment modifies your character's looks. How great and convincing the textures look when they are filtered and bump-mapped, how believable the game is when ugly edges are smoothly antialiased. I already said this in another thread, and I will say it again: main reason why I no longer play Fallout and one of the main reasons why I couldn't stand playing Arcanum, is ugly 2D graphics. 3D is one of the best things that happened to games, and it really shifted the concept of interactive entertainment to a whole new level. Just wait for Half Life 2 and its morphing surfaces, insanely detailed game world and ultrarealistic physics. It's not a game - it's a way of life. Half life, to be exact.

Great news!!! Interplay will make a profit for this year.!!!

Q4 earnings will be in as expected, thanks to the Vivendi distribution agreement!! :D

That's great, though I fail to see how it's relevant to the topic. I might be missing something, though

I wouldn't wish less profits on Interplay, because less profits is less jobs, and there are enough people without work to go around already, but somehow I doubt more profits in Q4 mean the likeliness of Fallout 3 increases.

Actually, I can't think of anything increasing the likeliness of Fallout 3, except if the entire management of Interplay was sent of and replaced by their shareholders...Hmmm...

On September 19, 2003, the Company filed a complaint against Atari, Inc. in the Supreme Court of the State of New York. The complaint alleges that Atari, Inc. wrongfully claims a termination of a multi-year license agreement between the parties and seeks an injunction and declaratory relief preventing Atari, Inc. from terminating this license agreement pending a determination on the merits. In September 2003, the Company successfully obtained a preliminary injunction in the Supreme Court of the State of New York preventing Atari, Inc. from terminating this multi-year license agreement until such time as a decision on the merits has been rendered. As of September 30, 2003, the parties remain in litigation. The Company believes Atari, Inc.'s attempt to terminate the license agreement is without merit and intends to vigorously prosecute its position.

Is this the reason why you don't think there will be a Fallout 3? Are you afraid the development of Baldur's Gate 3 (Jefferson) will be restarted and Fallout 3 (Van Buren) will be shelved again?

I don't think so, because this litigation process is going to take another year, which will be enough time to complete what's left of developing Fallout 3.

No, and the problem might be with BGDA2...

Actually, Interplay's entire rights to Baldur's Gate are at stake. That includes the PC rights as well as the console rights. And the wrongful termination happened with the PC rights.

True, we know that.

Interplay is also experiencing problems with Wizards of the Coast who still haven't accepted the latest version of Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2 submitted to them.

Quality Standards

In determining whether a product complies with community standards of decency, Wizards of the Coast uses, but is not limited to the following. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Wizards of the Coast reserves the right to determine, in its sole discretion, whether a product complies with community standards of decency.

Violence and Gore – Descriptions of combat are acceptable in a Covered Product. However art or text depicting excessively graphic violence or gore is not acceptable.

Sexual Themes - Sexual situations—including abuse and pornography—may not appear graphically in art or text. When depicting the human form—or creatures possessing humaniform features—gratuitous nudity, the depiction of genitalia, bare female nipples, and sexual or bathroom activity is not acceptable. While sensuality and sexuality may appear in a Covered Product, it must not be the focus nor can it be salacious in nature.

Prejudice - Covered Products can not depict existing real-world minorities, nationalities, social castes, religious groups, genders, lifestyle preferences, or people with disabilities as a group inferior to any other group. Current, real-world religions and religious groups and/or practices will not be portrayed in any way that promotes disrespect for these religions or their participants. A Covered Product can not endorse or promote any specific religion or religious practice.

As you can see their license policies have dramatically changed, and this would have made it necessary to change the story and settings to complete Jefferson even if Interplay got the PC license back.

AND YES, I DO LIKE CHEESE :D

Wait...someone else rejects the quality of Interplay titles? Say it isn't so!

(license)

Funny. Not much there that couldn't be reworked in little time at all if it was pertaining to content, unless it was really saturated in that aspect.

Hey, too bad the suits at Interplay were stupid enough to get a license and then forget to read the damn thing. If there was some extreme part of the game that might have bent the licensing rules, that's when you try to acquire an explicit license for said materials with extra precauition clauses for making it look responsible towards minors. It just makes sense as you're using someone else's intellectual property, it is only the courteous thing to do.

The likely root of the problem arose from Interplay/Titus becoming all to comfortable in raping licenses for the hell of it and didn't bother to think.

Too bad they didn't have enough tacos to hire Leonard "J." Crabs, else they might have some competent legal advice.

On the odd note of Interplay actually being the one to be screwed, perhaps they should look into the viability of grandfathering since the time the license was re-obtained. Chances are, the lawyers that Interplay could afford are rather slim and they didn't bother reading through all the pertinent info. Slim the Bum Lawyer, who lives in a cardboard box by the parkway and whom has an intimate relationship with their snack machine.

The dramatic changes in Wizards of the Coast licenses have happened this year. Long after Jefferson was started and the concept had been submitted to them

Disconcerting, isn't it?

EDIT: Wizards of the Coast is still with Hasbro. Hasbro sold Hasbro Interactive to now Atari (then Infogrames Entertainment)

Atari has no direct control over Wizards of the Coast, as it is still part of Hasbro.
