Some questions regarding fallout 1

newbiewanderer

First time out of the vault
Hello there fellow wanderers
My name is John and i fell head over hills in love with the fallout canon
after having played fallout 3 ( i know that your opinions of this game , are shall we say , mixed ..... , but darn it it got me hooked on the fallout universe and it´s a pretty immersive gamer at least)
I have been playing fallout after fallout 3 and NV( i think that´s the correct order timeline wise) and i have some questions if you don´t mind answering them:

1-how come arent npcs and talking heads alike flustering with dialog lines . In fallout new vegas you could forcefully interrogate every npc .You could know their backstory , where they had lived , what brought them to their situation etc..
In this game i know nothing about these characters , are more dialog lines unlocked trough time or is it a speech inpediment on my characters part.

2-Can i get some backdrop into the gangs such as the skullz ,
the khans and gizmos lackeys?
I havet talked to everyone in junktown and catn find a backdrop
into these gangs. I can only kill them or side with them.

3-How come towns are so small / have so few quests?
Shady sands has two areas , the town itself and the radscropion cave. And for the looks of it only two quests till now which are
a-killing the radscropions
b-Using ian as an human shield to kill the raiders and loot his dead body
( and whats up with the khans camp btw?
I waltzed in there hoping to negociate tandi´s release
and they greeted me with an unprovoked hail of bullets
, well i at least got to kill them all and steal 3 desert eagles
and 5 leather armors ... heheheh )
Will i get more quests over the time in these regions

4-Are there any more areas ( secret areas , easter eggs ans such)
besides the ones you can fast travel too?

Thnaks for your time.I know i can be a nuisance , all my aquantinces tell me so , but please find it in your heart a little bit of compassion for this newb wanderer and do andswer me these questions if you have the time and the pacience.

Greets John

Perhaps you should play through the game, then check out the fallout wiki (to prevent spoilers). All your questions will be answered there.

A lot of stuff can be unlocked with different attributes, etc. Maybe a good idea to make a cheat-playthrough with maxed out everything to see everything in the world.

Remember that this game dates from the late 1990's. It was groundbreaking at the time. But, The tools they had available at the time were not as automated as today. They had limitations on how much animation they could do and how far their maps could extend. I'm sure that affected lip syncing dialog with talking heads. All the dialog trees and their links to scripting probably had to be coded manually and was very time consuming. An example of animation limitations; to animate a "critter" in Fallout, meaning any individual creature or person on the game map, may require hundreds of frames of animation. Each frame for that figure has to be drawn as an individual picture and pieced together in a series to generate the required animation. If the character has to fire different types of guns, then animation for each type of gun has to be generated. Then this process has to be repeated to cover all six angles the critter can face on the map. Making critters is something that modders hate to do because it requires so much time.

Given time constraints on getting a game finished and on store shelves, there was only so much they cram into the game at the time. Fallout 2, in it's original form, runs very much like a poorly made beta version because of this. Killap's unofficial Fallout 2 patch or his Fallout 2 Restoration Project are virtually required for that game to make it playable.

As for playing quests, each situation was designed to be resolved a number of ways, depending on the player preference. So, there is no right or wrong way to pursue a quest. That is largely what made Fallout so groundbreaking. No other game had done that before. You can negotiate for Tandi with the Khans, sneak in and release her, or just blast the hell out of them and take her. Either way works as long as you get Tandi back.

Background stories and information were discussed by developers in interviews and such. This information has been compiled on the Fallout Wiki for all the Fallout games. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Wiki If you want to know more about the gangs, factions, and individuals in Fallout, you will find what information is available on the Wiki.

There are no real "secret" areas on the world map. You just have to follow the quests and they will eventually lead you to all the available locations.

I hope all this helps. Happy adventuring Vault Dweller!
