The "I'm a musician, kiss my ass" thread.

So Old I'm Losing Radiation Signs
So, don't bother the title, I just wanted to make a general topic for all of you who do music here on nma. We've got some very well known people like public here, but there are also people like me around who don't have a big number. :D

So, a few questions - do you do "apocalyptical" themes for games/films etc? Or do you prefer to be in a band? Or is strumming the guitar more like just a hobby for you?

I would like to exchange some posts with you. :)

I'm a singer, i do vocals for a experimental metal/rock band. We were a band before called raised by wolves, we did played with a few bands like Cancer bats, I hate sally, Dead and divine and a few others.

We kind of fell out of touch of each other, then we broke up, which was shitty because we were set to record with this dude who recorded some of Cursed's(a popular canadian hc band) albums.

We all got back together recently.

We've only had a few practices, but so far so good.

I'm a drummer and I play a little guitar on the side. I've been in several bands/projects but nothing that ended up getting anywhere. the most serious band I've been in, who I wish had stuck together because we were definitely going places, was Burden - unfortunately I had to move because of my current job and others lost interest. you can hear some of Burden's music here: www.myspace.com/burdenswe (the first couple of songs are aggressive as hell, but check out Abstinence and Dawn to hear our soft side too).

I+m thinking of learning to play a musical instrument. I was thinking of piano but i dont own one and i would like something that could be carried around.

Is saxofone as hard as i hear it is?

I was also thinking about something in the lines of a guitar, so i could play recent solos/songs.

(no flutes or triangles :P)

Any tips you guys can give me?

I play piano and guitar. Mostly interpretations of Baroque, Classical period and Romantic music.

I don't care too much, just do it for fun. Also, I don't really practice, I just decide something is neat, google the notes, fiddle with them until I understand what the tabs are, and start playing along.

Yeah thats my plan, but can u play Classical on guitar?

Ahhh brilliant :D

Ode to joy on guitar excelent eheh

Thx guys, its a pity i can only buy it in 2-3 months, but the links are already saved.

:D

I'm an expert Jew's harp player.

I learned it from my good friend Werner, the nephew of the son of a trialed Gestapo officer.

A Gestapo officer who had learned how to play it to trick Jews into thinking he was a Jew as well.

"His favourite story was the legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin," Werner told me.

Yeah. Werner is funny like that.

 Uhm... okay... I guess...

I used to play piano, but I haven't done so in years. Stopped because I never practiced and I lost interest, but lately I've been think about playing again. My music reading is very rusty.

I also used to sing, but whatever.

nothing personal, but it pisses me off when people who can sing don't use it and completely disregard it. being able to sing is the one thing I wish more than anything in this world (yes, even more so than world peace) but I will never be able to.

You can always improve. Believe me.

Hey, I didn't say I was good. I was average, some people said I was "fine," so that means below average.

I will never be able to.
Never? Are you mute? If not, you can always try. Singing is like any other instrument, you have to work at it, have to get a good vocal teacher and practice, practice, practice. And yes, singers should know how to read music.

I'm considered a big number?

Yeah, uh, I actually had no idea that Public is "well known" in the music field. What do you do exactly, Public?

I thought so. In every topic , fallout fan music is mentionend, I see his name there. :D And the music is also very profesionall I think.

To the problem with singing: It's a thing everyone could do. No one has a "shitty" voice, maybe you just had tried the wrong songs which are not fitting to your voice. And buxbaum is right - one could improvise everything. There are bands out there which I find amazing, also the singer. But when hearing the singer without any instruments it sounds horrible. It just depends on the situation - find songs/bands etc. which are fitting to your voice and everything should be fine.

Well, a lot to say actually.

Was a composer at Polish post-apo project, Forlorn World 2-3 years ago. That's where I started but the project fell down unfortunately.

Later on I was hired at Mutants Rising, where I did 3 songs, which hopefully will be used at the final stage. Tried to organize other 2 composers' creations, they had a big mess down there. Hopefully I did well and helped them keep things more tidy. Being fed up of making music for games, etc, I quit, but mostly because I needed a break.

While working for MR I did couple of other project for someone and for myself.

There was one guy who needed a song and some ambient sounds for his Skydiving simulator.

I did one song "Skydiving". A lame name, but pretty cute track, which you can download for free from links I will give you at the end of this post.

There was one guy who wanted me to compose music for his short film at Uni, but he kept cutting and re-writing shits when I already had stuff finished for scenes he sent me, so I told him to find someone else.
Of course he called me of from cunts and cocks on Skype, which even showed more of how he is being unprofessional.
too bad, because he made some nice camera shots and I had an awesome concept for a soundtrack.

There is also a guy who asked if he can use one of my songs called "Till the End", for his internet mini-series about Vampires in modern world.
www.youtube.com/user/sleepintheskies
He used some parts of mine in “On The Run, Prelude One” episode. The last part and the end credits if I'm not mistaken.

“Fallout 3 Alternative Soundtrack” project also used 4 of my tracks, where one of them was specially made for them "The Warsaw". The others are "Ciudad Oscuras ( the Dark City)", "Muerto" and "Strange Place", which were composed for Mutants Rising.

I also applied and got the job as a composer for cRPG, based on novels I forgot the name. It is a non-commercial project, but they are aiming to be commercial. Good climate of the game and a great team, very organized and straight forward, but I was done with making music for games. At least I showed them some of my ideas for the project, and hopefully they will consider them and tell another composer to get inspired or something.

Found out that making music for someone's idea and concepts is not my cup of a tea in long term.
I can do it sometimes though, one song, a few or a theme, it depends.

Other than that, I did few little things that never seen the light of the day, or not yet. Or I didn't get the job.
