The Omega Man

The overzealous metaphore with Christ was a bit absurd, and so was most of the 9/10ths of the movie. I liked the very beggining with Heaston reapiting lines from Woodstock, and I think it would have worked better if most of the movie Heaston was alone, fighting it out with the family.

I really liked the film, and actually liked some of Heston's sci-fi flicks. Planet of the Apes, Soyvent Green.

Did you read the book/novella it's based on? I am Legend?

Yes, Richard Matheson is considered to be one of the great horror writers, up there with Ray Bradbury and early Robert Bloch- highly influential to the big horror writers to emerge in the 70s and 80s (King, Koontz, Saul, etc). I actually have used his very short story Born of Man and Women in class.

I am Legend was the basis of the Omega Man and Vincent Price's Last Man on Earth- basically the story of a man who lives in a world were everyone else has become a vampire. One could also see this as a merging of post-apocalytic and horror that we see in many zombie movies today.

Only with Zombies and an even suckier second half. Also, the zombies talk in Omega Man. It is not out on DVD here yet, anyway.

The graphic novel of "I Am Legend" is incredible, the artwork in it really captures the story perfectly - it's well worth tracking down.

Of the 2 movies, I think "The Last Man On Earth" is the better one - Omega Man had too much cheesy 70's ambience, for me at least.

Soyvent Green is the better Sci-Fi Heston flick. But I still think Planet of the Apes rocks. Even Beneath the Planet of the Apes until Heston shows up at the very end.

Speaking of sci-fi, post-apo movies, anyone seen A Boy and His Dog? If so, is it good? I can't find it to rent.

I dug The Omega Man back when I saw it in high school. I can't really elaborate as to why, it's been awhile.

I just saw 28 days. Excellent movie, but way to b-grade. I heard the omega mans a lot like it. Is omega man better then 28 days latte  (an inside joke)

I haven't seen Omega Man for almost 20 years, but remember it as very good although cheesy. A Boy and His Dog was probably even better but again I haven't seen that for a long time either. Ellison's stories are very good and he's been a screenwriter for a long time. Definitely see it and read his books and short stories.

I like a Boy and His Dog a lot. Very interesting stuff. But it is dated. Definitely check out Ellison's short stories and books. Like most, books and stories don't always translate well into movies. Still a worthwhile watch on video. Very much a Fallout type flick.

The first half of A Boy and His Dog was exactly what I wanted; Mad Max/Fallout style questing. Then it went a bit wierd. Nice twist at the end as well.

I liked Omega Man a lot when I was younger. It's still a fun movie, but you can't look too far into it.

I actually liked the vaults as protrayed in A boy and his dog. Jason Robbards as the overseerer and how the punish people.

Have you seen a film with Rutgur Hauer and Joan Chen, blood of heroes?
