In the run-up to Fallout 4's release a month and a half from now, The Vault is hosting a lore competition, pitting articles that explore different aspects of the setting against each other. Ever wanted to explore ghoul sex life in detail and theorize as to how it actually works? Or perhaps you have a pet theory you'd like to present? Here's a word from the competition manager:

Hello, fellow Vault Dwellers!

Curse, in conjunction with the Strategic Nuclear Moose and The Vault, would like to take this chance to present the collective Fallout community with a unique opportunity: a competition to celebrate the recent Fallout 4 news, and the fans that have made the Fallout community such an amazing one. This competition will be a Fallout theory challenge, in which contestants can put forth their most creative and desired Fallout theories, for a chance to win from our prize-pool!

This competition is hosted at The Vault, and all entries stand a chance to win prizes such as, but not necessarily limited to, official: Fallout Vault Boy plush, vinyls, the Fallout Anthology, or even a brand-new copy of either Fallout 4, or its eventual Game of the Year edition! Even should one not win, we will still be offering free ghoulification as a consolation prize! What... not interested? Why, of course you are!

Start on your entry now! Not sure how to join in on the fun? Please continue reading at our official blog for the competition.

For the official rules, and to help figure out if you are eligible to enter and/or win, please check this link.

All entries are accepted, provided they are legible. All theories are welcome, including ghoul intercourse methods - if you insist.

A rather good question has been asked pretty frequently over at the Reddit branch of this competition, in that potential competitors were inquiring about putting forth their already existing theories. We have absolutely no issues with this! We are only interested in seeing the creativity of our fellow Fallout fanatics - new or old does not really mean anything in this regard. We only ask that theories be original works in the sense that naturally, we do not allow plagiarism.

Can we write our theory here?

Personally, I see no issue with NMA being used a theory medium. Once we are given a link to a theory, we will send a private message to their creators so that we may walk them through the rest of the entry process without congesting this thread with a bunch of repeated/redundant instructions.

If there ends up being an issue with NMA members writing their theories here on the site, then we will make sure to update this thread to reflect site-specific restrictions/expectations.

Great! My idea was making a thread in the appropriate forum, give the link and follow the instructions.

Here is to healthy competition, then! Already looking forward to seeing what you can/have come up with.

Hear, hear and thanks.

Probably something to do with Fallout 2...

I have an old idea/theory I could dust off. It can't be really proved but it would have been that throw off idea that would really have made the player raise an eyebrow for a moment wonder how deep this rabbit hole really goes.
What if the Enclave itself was also an experiment just like the Vaults?

Yes. Just yes.

Interesting. Probably won't be able to participate due to being busy, but good luck to the rest!

Do it! Knowing your previous posts, it will be very great.

My theory: Fallout 3 and 4 never really happened it was just some guys lying in virtual reality stasis pods in some vault experiencing some bizarre fantasy. So what really happened on the east coast hasn't been explored yet.

...Or Fallout 3/4 is a weird vivid story told by a deranged old man among a group of people about what an alternate universe would be like.
