The Village (No spoilers)

Well I just got back from seeing The Village. Without any spoilers, I have to say, it was a major let down. Honestly, if you didn't see the ending coming a mile away you probably lack the capacity to understand what the characters themselves are saying, or even what I'm typing right now. There was some stirling acting, and the village itself is quite beautiful, but in the end I feel cheated of something that could have been much better.

Shamalayn you dog, why do I keep seeing your movies? It was better then Signs at least.

However, I was very amused by the constant screaming of the teenaged girls in the audience. Some guys sitting behind me flipped out too, and threw their popcorn in the air. That was almost worth the price of admission.

Should have seen The Manchurian Candidate.
 
Damnit, I knew it was going to happen. When I first read about it, I told myself "It's going to be great until the very end where it will suck." Then I talked myself into thinking I might be wrong, so I was going to go see it really soon.

Now I'll probably just wait for it to come to video or something. I don't want to pay money to be let down again.
 
Meh. It's hit or miss with Shyamalan, I guess.

Some people don't like his movies at all, some people think he's great. I loved Signs, and Unbreakable. The Sixth Sense was okay the first time I saw it.

You didn't like Signs, and you didn't like The Village, so methinks I'll probably enjoy it.
 
Signs was good, til the ending.

I would have rather had the ending be a bit larger in scope, at least show what happend to the people that had been seen,
 
Well I enjoyed Signs and The Village, but the endings are so mundane it left a bitter aftertaste to what would otherwise have been a great movie. I guess I was just feeling the pain of the greatness that almost was when I made the first post. My attitude has mellowed somewhat now that I've been given a night to think about the movie. It just felt like the "twist" ending had little or nothing to do with the real story, and didn't add to the drama at all.

Plenty of shockers though, the whole thing was good up till the end when I said "What? Thats it?"
 
Shamalayn- I think is horror for the mainstream. Kind of like The Others.

A bit lukewarm, but if you get anything extreme, people will call it trash.
 
I'm getting pretty damn sick of those stupid little twists he does.

The novelty has worn out.
 
Stupid little twists are great. I have been a fan of them ever since watching old Twilight Zone reruns as a kid.

Still, the reception to this movie has been pretty lukewarm (1 star from Ebert!). I am thinking rental.
 
Holy fuck does it take long to ship movies to Europe - I just saw the Villiage today at the movies. I enjoyed it well - it was way better than I had anticipated since I really had no hopes for it. I don't think it was creepy at all though.

Wasn't there some mini-series a while back called 'the village', or at least something like it? I just remember some creepy image of people walking calmly in file down into stormy water, though that's about all I remember. *shrug*

Well, the movie was alright. I think it really depends on how much you expect and what you expect.
 
Yeah..The Village is okay if you like a bit of flat entertainment cinema...
It is just okay and nothing more... if you expect a horror movie you'll be disappointed :(

I watched that movie in August.

Did I like it? Meh.

Kind of a horror flick for soppy girls, with all the epic romance bullshit going on. I liked the beginning, and the idea of an isolated community in the middle of nowhere, living in an undescript timeline.

The way it was presented, however brilliant the idea was, sucked.
 
Call me daft, but I didn't see the ending coming a mile away. If there had not been a certain piece of information given at the beginning, which I assumed was correct, I probably would have seen it coming a mile away.

I liked it, but I didn't find it scary at all, but maybe that has something to do with the fact that I downloaded it and saw it for the first time on my computer a couple months ago. :wink:

If I had paid money for it, my opinion of the film probably would have been lower.
 
I think I'll wait till the DVD comes out, I loved Unbreakable and the Sixth sense, though I was dissapointed with Signs.
