I am playing FO on an old Gateway computer that is miraculously working very well using Win 98se & experiencing FOT crashing quite a bit even with the 1.27 patch. I have found that I can minimize the crashes with a minimal install but when I try to play "Tough Guy" it is impossible because there are still crashes. I can get up to Macomb but can't successfully complete it because of the crashes.

Very frustrating.
 
It's amazing how buggy the Tough Guy mode seems in comparison to normal play. I have had really no problem with the latter, sending through various combinations including solo male or female I've always finished them. But TG is another story altogether, even though there was really no problem before Macomb seemingly. In Macomb I've experienced all sorts of problems: the game crashing if I try to fulfill the quest returning the librarian's missing glasses, players not doing what I've directed them to do, doing something else or going off in a different direction, one of the players being killed ("gutted") for 23 points while I know she has double that in hit points, & if I do somehow finish Macomb the game inevitably freezes while I am exiting to the world map.

Amazing - I got so bored with election day that I decided to use the evening to send my squad through Macomb again & they all made it successfully with no mishaps of any kind!

So, it not only crashes, but those crashes are specific for the TG mode?

Those crashes were the reason why I returned FoT to store. It was completely unplayable in TG mode.
 
Strange, i finished the game in TG mode. I had some crashes, and I have to admit they were frustrating especially when you nearly finished a mission, but it was possible.
 
I have to say that the very first time I tried to run toughguy on 1.27 polish version [with no-cd patch by Red!, but I doubt it would be the cause (juggling cd's is not what I like the best)] I had crash when I send "Stitcher" to talk to shaman in the very first mission. That never happened before (I mean like total game crash) so yes, I think there is something seriously wrong with toughguy mode.
 
So is there any way to play in Tough Guy mode without these crashes? Cause' I tried playing through the Macomb mission at least 4 times, and the game always crashes after I get past the minefield.

If someone would post some suggestions on how to play in Tough Guy Mode with as few crashes as possible I would greatly appreciate it.

I suggest that you use the editor and alter each mission -click 'is bunker' in each mission and then you can save during any mission in tough guy mode. you can edit all the missions that you haven't entered yet and the changes will still work. you still won't be able to save while your party is on the world map though.

I don't believe the bug is tough guy specific I've had crashes in normal mode too. the point is: SAVE OFTEN!
 
Strange thing: i've got no crashes in TG, while prev. game with the same patch crashed several times w/out TG. Dunno what's that :roll: I have 1.27 russian official, and it seems to be quite ok, trough i still have all these bugs with perks, u know... :|
 
I've been playing FOT over the course of 3 years and never had a single crash. I played in regular ctb mode at the beginning and after that in tough guy ctb mode.
Maybe everyone complaining about crashes should post some specs as in what hardware/os/fot settings you are using to narrow down the problem. ALso which cd version you use as there are different ones out there.
