Tribal genocide

ZeaLitY

First time out of the vault
Just curious if anyone's felt the urge to wipe out one of the tribes during their playthrough. I imagine it probably fits in a lot of character RPs to have it completely out for at least one of the smaller tribes, whether the Omertas, Kings, Van Graffs, etc. So I'd love to hear the story of getting rid of them.

Spoilers for "Birds of a Feather"

My issue was with the Van Graffs. The Revenge Note you get from the dead merchant pushed me over the edge and made me want to remove them entirely. I also had a soft spot for The Kings and was pissed to hear about some of them dying to the Van Graffs earlier.

I set up four frag mines and two C4 near the entrance to the bathroom hall. I crouched near Jean-Baptiste, the hardest target, and downed a Psycho, Turbo, Jet, and Stealth Boy. I smuggled a dynamite into his back pocket, and with Turbo grabbed the Plasma Caster. I dashed to the back bathroom and got it ready. The 7 guards (and other Van Graff) converged on the hallway door. The mines and C4 killed two instantly, and the rest melted to plasma soon after. I had fun looting the entire place and admiring my handiwork after that.

Funniest of all was exiting the building only to see their crier come running toward me shooting a plasma pistol. Took off his head in broad daylight while dressed as a King.

Overall New Vegas has been on another level completely compared to Fallout 3.

Not there yet, but I'll probably end up taking out the Khans.

Van Graffs, I haven't dealt with yet, will probably kill them but it's a shame to lose a trader. My character's melee so I care little for what they have in the store. Even if I do find someone to sell it off to, it'd probably be only barely enough to cover repair costs for unique weapons and armor.

The Van Graffs are very hard to deal with. Even with my high level character, I have a lot problems with them. Thing is, I like their quest line, but

[spoiler:ebfdfda333]I don't want to kill Cass.[/spoiler:ebfdfda333]

Well, unless someone lucky-crits one of my limbs off, I shouldn't have too much trouble. With PA and both me and Rex able to knock enemies down, I'd say I'm ready to take 'em. I don't really see the point though - I'll just never take the girl to the store, and everyone's happy.

You can actually kill the Van Graffs without actually killing them yourself.

Ask the lady if there's any work. She'll tell you they have an opening for a guard. Go out there and talk to the current guard and he'll show you the ropes, tell you to frisk people, make sure you don't let any drunkards in, confiscate weapons, etc.

The first person you see will be a drunk. Don't let him in.

Customer #2 and #3 are fine. Search them and let them in.

Customer #4 is a suicide bomber. Don't search them and they'll go in and blow the place up, killing everyone inside. The guard and the crier will attack you, but they're easy.

The Brotherhood of Steel wanted me to kill the Van Graffs and that's how I did it - I don't know if you can ask them if they have work available without a standing order to kill them.

Yes you can. I hadn't yet met a single BoS member by the time I hit Freetown and I asked for a job from the Van Graffs, so kudos to you for creative thinking.

I am curious did you came up by your self with that idea, did the game gave you some "hints" or did that happend just by coincidence ? O.O

The 1st playthrough I genocided: The Kings, Powder Gangers, The Chairmen (it was fun looting a casino, and I didn't kill a single gambler during the shootout ^.^), The Khans, BOS (I killed them all individually and sold off everything in that bunker that wasn't welded to the wall.... Best $25k caps I ever made ^.^). And the Van Graffs (don't chuck grenades at them, you'll take all day trying to find all their store items on their tables if you blast them all over the room during the fire fight ^.^) I think that's it. 2nd playthrough I personally ripped Ceasars head from his shoulders with a Pneumatic Gauntlet strung out on Psycho. BTW... Killing Ceasar with Boone at your side gives you the best one liner I've heard in the game so far.

He has a note in his inventory stating his plans.

please tell us

He tells Ceasar where he can shove his "thumbs down"

he barely said more than a sentace through most of my Legionary hunting along the east coast, and then he blurts that out after I finish picking through Ceasars corpse.

I took out the Van Graffs with Cass at my side, just stormed in and anti-materieled the lot of em after drinking an atomic cocktail and a whiskey. Cass and her riot shotty are a force to be reckoned with, and now she wears the black Van Graff Combat Armour as a big "F You".

The Great Khans I didn't want to wipe out, but the damned Oh My Papa quest glitched on me and Melissa was nowhere to be found, and so by the time the NCR asked me to 'deal with them' I gladly went and 12.7mm sub silenced the lot of em. By the way, sneak kills are a bit ridiculous when I can blow Papa Khan's head off while he's eating next to Regis and the legion dude, with his skull fragments ending up in their fruit bowls and his blood being splattered on the walls (and me moving his stripped corpse and placing it on the table), and they just turn to me afterwards and ask "how you going?"

I'm going to try a reverse tribal genocide on next playthrough. I want to help only the raidng gangs. I want to level the Strip and kill any NCR or Legion. And wipe every Securitron off the map. I'm interested in what kind of ending I would get with total anarchy.

Has anyone tried this ending scenario?

[spoiler:6d09fdb7a9]Specifically: Killing House early on and leaving Securitron on Mk1 OS. Destroying his hidden bunker. Killing all Legion, NCR. And helping all gangs only. Kings would be killed too. Any NCR sympathisers too. I want to see how powerful the PowdergGangers and Khans can get...[/spoiler:6d09fdb7a9]

So far I have genocided only the Fiends (easy) and the Van Graff. I did the latter when [spoiler:5347fb1644]they try to kill Cass. It was one of the best moments in my playthrough because I didn't see it coming, was underleveled and unprepared. Man, what a mess it was. While Cass was shooting everybody I was busy destroying all the weapons they were holding while hig on Jet, Psyco and every kind of drug I could inject myself with. :D [/spoiler:5347fb1644]

With that, you'll pretty much only have the Yes-Man ending available.

[spoiler:fb1de0cc4a]when I first talked with Yes Man, there was a dialogue tree where you push the point that you are the courier that he helped track, and you can attack and kill him. If I kill Yes Man and every other possible faction (NCR, Legion, and all Securitrons) I wonder what ending I would get with all factions + Yes Man dead + turn the damn to scrap.

[/spoiler:fb1de0cc4a]

I truely don't know

[spoiler:bf66bcc805]because you get the final ending fight through House, Yes Man, Legion or NCR. I wonder if there is another quest line that gets you to the final fight at the Dam. Well I want to be a raider so I'll try and find out...[/spoiler:bf66bcc805][/spoiler]

Pretty sure those are the only paths to the ending.

[spoiler:0df4deda5d]AFAIK you can't kill Yes Man though, he simply uploads to another Securitron when he's "killed".[/spoiler:0df4deda5d]
