Van Buren video

That was Fallout 3.
I wonder if the "official" Fallout 3 will even approach it.

I'm concerned it's going to be some first-person, real-time bullshit.
All I ever wanted was in that video. It looked so promising in the screenshots, this video just rubs it in further.

I even have an original 1950/60s fallout shelter sign on my door, the kind they photoshopped for the E3 poster. Imported from the US at great expense..
When I first played Fallout 2 I literally dreamt about playing it when I was asleep between sessions..

Bethesda, you'd better not fuck this up..

Wow.

God, that was so depressing.

I don't think I've ever been so sad in my life.

Thank you so much for posting it though.

Good job on the video, guys. It's such a shame this project was ditched.. but well, life sucks, and then you die.

Isn't the Van Buren material in Bethesda's hands? Can someone there actually be a Fallout fan, wiling to relase this?

It probably would have been a good game, but it wasn't very Fallouty.

Good find anyway.

it's hard to find any info about this herve and what role he played in the whole fallout thing...

google hardly gives me any information about him, and if, then only very unimportant stuff...

is there some kind of herve-thread or sth.?

I'd advise a search of these very forums... You will find more than enough of what you need. Search for, Herve, Interplay, IPLAY

You may want to reference.

That second link will tell you a good bit about Herve and what a leech he is.

Its not entirely known at this point but a majority of it is believed to be retained by Beth with the remainder split up between the companies involved in creating products in the fallout universe. A search of the forums in the news section will give you what you want.

EDIT: Just watched it... yeah, what could have been...

After all these years of playing on the same engine is hard to acclimate eyes into new enviroment :P But I like it, even if it was on the alpha stage.

In this way should look Fallout 3 - no FPP.

Oh shit.

I would've cried, if my girlfriend wasn't home...

Oh, the potential... Goddamn you, Herve.

Floating numbers, dialogue system plus character portraits, speaking of even trying to make real time combat with turn based as an option are nightmare, this or Oblivion with guns doesn't matter, both wouldn't been Fallout anyway. Too bad it got cancelled though, it might have been good in Fallout Tactics way.

Whats with the leaking stuff? Who does it, why now? Perhaps we can wait for something more?

Well, personally I think that somebody already possesses the tech demo but is not allowed to show it to us.

Yeah, and about the video - the last episode teared me apart. The guy is entering the vault - how symbolic...

At last the story matters and what I read was absolutely interesting.
Floating numbers... who cares, floating or not floating where is your point? Maybe it could have been changed to static ones by some mod or by ingame settings.
I guess when playing with TB combat, gameplay was nearly identical to F1,2.

The desgin was a bit to loooking like clean cheap plastic imo. And I wonder if they cut the deathanimations... Maybe Bethesda can do that better.

The graphics engine and look was spot on. That look is Fallout, no doubt.

The real time combat was nasty.

What Beth could take away from that is the top down viewpoint, the cutaway roof graphics, and all that. As soon as I saw that, it screamed Fallout to me, and removed any doubt in my mind that you need that viewpoint/style to keep it 'Fallout'. It goes with the whole 'cute' thing, which contrasts with the horrible stuff that goes on in the wasteland.

The opposite is true of the RT combat - that definitely was not fallout. Seeing it in that fantastic top-down view that instantly brought back memories of FO1 and 2 was pretty nauseating, really.

we all expect to be screwed by Beth$ thats why this video seems so blissful to some.

good choice with the music though...

Since it was in Alpha stage I'm certain the death animations would've been introduced later on... The video is merely introducing the engine and what the setting looks like. Details would've been added later on. Dialogues, quests, items and such are added after the engine works smoothly. Everything would've been more polished than Rhombus' Power Armour when it had been ready...

I didn't care for those latest screens much but it's actually impressive in action even by today's standards, considering it's in alpha. I especially liked the character movements, legs shifting while firing stuff and all, those little details are very fallout. Looks like it was going to be a high quality game

Still, like the screens, it didn't exactly scream Fallout to me. It looks too colorful and too neat. I'd much rather see a torn tent, a bent sheet of metal for armor, and rusty pipe for a weapon. Then again, they were probably going to add effects that would make everything looks dirty and rusted and those weapons from the video could be really hard to find. It needs some improvement to satisfy me but that was the plan and it still looks pretty damn good.
