ways in which fallout 4 improved over new vegas

R.Graves

Confirmed Retard
I've spent so much time being negative about this game I figure I'd be positive about... Just this once.

So here are the few improvments I've seen in fo4.

  • The feel of power armor. (Though the mechanics behind it are not very lore friendly and they're to common but the feel of power armor is undeniably an improvement).
  • The recoil animations for guns are noticeably better.
  • Radroaches can now crawl on walls (I find this really awesome I don't know why)
  • Mole rats dig now.
  • "Dogmeat" can drag people to the ground now.
  • The graphics are better imo but still look like shit for different reasons.
  • Back to radroaches (They actually feel like roaches to me this time around).
  • Deathclaws pick you up now (I feel like this should've been insta-kill though)
  • EDIT 1: There was an attempt to have an armor system similar to morrowind's. I feel that's a good idea. (Though no New icons were created like the desert ranger armour or the centurian armor)
  • Er.... That's all I think
So what were some improvements you are willing to admit that fo4 has over NV?

Disagree on the molerats. The ones in 3 were pathetic but I still prefer the ones in 1 and 2. Though at least they have got something now.

Power Armour feels good but everything else is really bad about it.

Armour customization is terrible but the idea is nice and wish we had something like this in NV.

I like the fact that we have more separate inventory parts - shoulders, legs, etc. Although the whole sets are crap looking.

Tl;dr some good ideas with terrible execution.

I also prefer the 1/2 molerats but the ones in 4 are improvements to the ones seen in NV imo.

I also liked the attempt to get back to an armor system similar to morrowind's.

Editing OP.

Pip-boy mini games. Although they're not very lore friendly I thought they were a solid 7.5/10.

That's it.

I can't say shooting, because there are less weapons in F4, and the mods are a shit system. It's not do I want range or rate of fire? It's just I'll choose this 'hardened' upgrade that boosts all of the gun's attributes. It's the same with Automatrons, or armor, you're only ever going to be using the strongest option.

I've mentioned it before, but I like the design of the Vaults and the jumpsuits, since they look more like the original Vaults of Fallout 1 and 2. They actually look like the safe hi-tech havens they were designed to be. The experiments suck though (the school one in particular is the worst).

I like that radiation affects your health, it makes you consider it as a threat rather than an annoyance.

I actually didn't notice any kind of improvements on the combat itself inf fo4 just improvement on combat animations. There's far fewer weapons in fo4 than NV. Iirc fo4 only has like 4 mellee weapons.

Second this. The aesthetics were a lot better in quite a few places. It makes for great screenshots also. When you're actually playing the game...

Animations yeah, but it's been 5 years so that's a given. It added nothing new- the settlement system, even though I enjoy it it's just a gimmick.

Knives, knuckles, boxing glove, power fist, pool cue, chinese sword, sledgehammer. Am I missing any?

Knuckles, boxing gloves, and powerfist are unarmed weapons but you forgot the super sledge.

(Also it's been 7 years)

Yes yes Bethesda has amazing art direction and their art design team or whatever should be praised. They make some of the most beautiful, immersive looking game worlds in the entire industry...and then the worst writers/quest designers in the entire industry take a massive diarrhea on all of it and that's how Bethesda's pseudo-RPGs are created.

They need entirely new writers/quest designers. That would solve 99% of the criticisms of Fallout 4 and Skyrim. Which is why so many people are asking for Obsidian to save Fallout - they are some of the best writers in the business.

Actually the art direction for fo4 was kinda... Unfallouty. And therefore wrong and bad.

I thought places like Diamond City looked charming. They had no depth and the NPCs are glorified mannequins, but the aesthetic imo was very good. The skyscrapers have rusted metals with traces of vibrant colours, I thought it was good because it looked like a sci-fi 50s tower had been left to rust for 210 years. F4 is set in a city, not a desert, and I don't mind the new look. I think if the game itself was good you'd see them in a better light.

It's a shame that the people at Bethesda who are good at their jobs are overlooked because of the crap decisions made by Todd and Emil. I still wish the world was more empty, instead of the clusterfuck shooting gallery we got.

What's worst is that they even cut back on the animation on Unarmed weapons by cutting corners. Ever notice how all of the Unarmed Weapons, Knuckles and Boxing Gloves included, are only attacking with the right hand? Hell, the SS only equips ONE fucking glove/knuckle/powerfist/Deathclaw Gauntlet on the right hand, and completely ignores his left, yet at the same fucking time, will put his left hand out to block with his right. This is pretty fucking bad.

NV had this with the Power Fist and Gauntlets, yes, but I thought they would IMPROVE weapon combat, not go ass backwards with it.

-You can freely exit VATS whenever you want.
-Robotic guro.
-Face creator. (not facial animations)
-Lighting and shadowing (but not the way bethesda implemented it on software level)

As you can see, nothing positive goes without a little spoon of bitterness.

Sentry Bots I say have been improved a lot. They actually FEEL like something you would go "Oh jesus fucking christ!". Used to be Deathclaws, but with Fallout 4 in, the new threat is seeing one of those being dormant, and hoping to hell you can hit one of the legs fast enough to force it to crawl, then hitting the arms. Oh, that reminds me about Unarmed and Melee, they STILL have that stupid shit with VATS where the entire body is just 95% Chance and not a fucking "Select Limb to fuck up" system like Firearms? It shouldn't be fucking hard.

When I saw one of the first trailers for Fallout 4, I assumed most of Boston had been turned into a new city. How much better that would have been instead of a shanty town in a baseball stadium.

Definitely agree with the Sentry Bots. Bit divided over it's cooldown feature, but overall I like them.
