What happened to mother Russia in Fallout?

I was always kind of interested, who we were and what we did. I mean, did we side with Americans or Chinese (we were commies, right?). This question has been troubling me since Fallout 1. In Wasteland, it's pretty clear. In Fallout... not so much.

Do you think Russia would be a significant target? Who would we aim for? Did we invent AK-112? I know they had a Soviet diplomat in the Vault, so we probably wouldn't be too much of an enemy with the US, but you never know.

Any kind of holodisks, dialogue and characters are more than welcome. Also, any speculations are OK, just as long as they're based on common sense (we have fact A so it's possible that B would be a fact).

The SU still existed during the Great War, but like the European Commonwealth it was a second-grade power behind the big two. We know this only because one of the Fallout's pre-made characters is of Russian descent. As far as I know the SU wasn't directly involved in the Commonwealth-Middle East conflict or China-US conflict.

That's it, that's all the mention made of the SU in all Fallouts. Not fleshed out, much like the European Commonwealth and Middle East which played pivotal roles in the Resource Wars.

Okay, thanks. Time for an imagination game...

What of South America? Any theories?

No one bothered to inform the South Americans of the big war, and they lived happily ever after, also with the continental drift of South America it split from central America at Panama, and floated away. Who knows, I don't think the guys at BIS were thinking too much about the rest of the planet when they wrote Fallout...

South America? I'm thinking vicious rainforests filled giant mutant animals, carnivorous plants that can skin a man alive and a monstrous race of man-eating bat-people. Radiation clouds, acid rain, ghouls and more ruins.

And monkeys. Monkeys everywhere. Monkey bitches every which way!

A village of intelligent monkeys similar to the Burrows would be interesting now that I think about it. I believe a piece of media involving large groups of congregating and scheming apes on a particular planet has already been done before. Think of that only in fallout, and in a jungle.

A settlement of intelligent apes grabs weapons and starts fighting a nearby human hub. Maybe those intelligent apes are regarded like ghouls are regarded everywhere else.

Ugh, Far Cry.

I'd assume they would be doing better than everyone with the exception of untouched countries like India (I know I know, I'm sorry for being so patriotic :P) or Africa.

I would actually like a spin off game set in south America. What the story would be is a dude from the NCR went down to south America (where Caesar's legion formed into a pseudo Aztec civ) with a detachment of Rangers and disappeared. As you go further hunting him in the game you find out that the NCR commander has gone insane and now is committing horrific atrocities against Caesar's legion all in the name of victory.

I've always thought the USSR would have made a better choice for the US enemy than China. Fits in more with the motif. Plus, cyrillic writing just screams post apocalypse.

My Fallout would have had the war in the 1960's instead and the game itself would take place roughly in the present day. To enhance the parallel reality feel of the whole thing. I'd still embellish the world with some fun sci-fi stuff that never really existed of course.

It would set a more sensible baseline for weapons tech, allowing the world war 2 stuff that everyone likes so much.

And then the Apes start using the humans, that for reasons unknown have lost the ability to speak, as their sex slaves... :P

I could imagine some mutated African aborigines instead. Smart, angry and deadly.

It's always funny to read what you type about my part of the world.

I would actually like a spin off game set in south America.

I wouldn't. Unless it was actually made by South Americans, otherwise it'd probably be some sort of "lol rainforest and mutated coke" monster.

Don't worry. My nation was pissed off in Call of Duty, Battlefield, Mercenaries, and countless other titles. Always the Russians. Drinking vodka and being commie. At least STALKER was plausible... Came a bit more true to us.

Don't you think the USSR would do better in the post apocalypic world? Compared to collectivization, it would probably be easy

Fail to see how. Outside the fact that the Union was probably through apocalypse before anything happened, people would still die and would do just as well in a world torn to pieces...

No offense but that is a horrendous idea.

There should be new factions and crap, I mean here we already have militar groups both legal nd ilegal hiding in remote places, and a lot of places that wouldn't seem like worth wasting nukes on for nither the Chinesse or the USA. Lots of potential.

Because compared to Comrade Stalin the apocalypse "aint' got shit" as it were

Yeah, Evil Russians are right next to Evil Arab Muslim Terrorists in the ''guys it's OK to kill en masse'' category for the target American audience. Just like it's OK to piss on the French and destroy Paris (both MW3 and BF3 did it, as well as a few Tom Clancy games IIRC) because losing a war makes you inept cowards for eternity, right?

Also, I doubt the creators of Fallout tought much about the exterior of America. It just seemed like what happens outside of the context of them game (either elsewhere in time or region) doesn't matter much.
