What organizations do you think should die off?

Ugly Kid

Still Mildly Glowing
I'm asking this because I don't think enough organizations from 1 & 2 have died off yet. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is the Enclave. Of course it isn't 100% neccessary, but I think some groups would have a better story if they were killed.

For me I'd choose the BoS, Caesar's Legion, Redding mining companies, Crimson Caravan, Gun Runners, and the White Legs.

And the group I'd want to keep would be the Khans, I like the idea of them forming an empire.

I don't think the Legion needs to die off. They were very underdeveloped in NV and there's a lot more to explore about them. That being said, anything about their future would determine a canon for NV and I don't want that, and a prequel involving them would be largely redundant. So I'm a bit stuck on that one.

As for the trade companies like the Redding miners, the Crimson Caravan and Gun Runners I don't see why they need to be merked either. They're a bit of flesh to the worldbuilding and don't really play a huge role, they're quite flexible narratively and there's potential for exploring lots of different stuff with them. Plus they're all tools of rebuilding civilization, and that is cool.

Agreed. I always thought they were pretty interesting when I read about them when the Van Buren docs were released so seeing them snuffed out is a no go for me.

I would like for the Institute and all of it's implications for the fallout universe to go away. I can't imagine Bethesda continuing with them as that would be a bit weird for 4's ending, but I can see them making references and maybe even related content in future games possibly. Just leave it in 4 please.

What do you have against the Redding miners? I don’t think they’re even mentioned outside of Fallout 2. Hell, I don’t think they’re even mentioned by anyone outside of Redding.

It's not that I have anything against them. It's just that it's a community centered around gold mines, and eventually it will run out. We saw something similar happen to Broken Hills when they ran out of uranium and the town collapsed. What I think would speed up the fall of Redding would be the BoS bombing the mines. Also it's extremely xenophobic yet it's in NCR territory, and Tandi passed laws about inclusion and what not.

Overall it just has tons of stuff going against it and I don't think it should be able to survive in the conditions it has.

But like what is the point? a body count? to what ends would killing one town from Fallout 2 is gonna serve. Gonna put the torch to Modoc as well? fuck those guys with their one game appearance. fucking assholes.

Well we learned from Jacobstown in New Vegas that there’s still a lot of anti-mutant sentiment in the NCR, regardless of the government’s official position.

But I guess it would make sense for Redding to become a ghost town after the NCR-BOS war, with the gold reserves destroyed and everything.

Except for the fact that it wasn’t. It says in the game the attack was repelled and Redding still exists. Hanlon retires their in his good ending.

If I recall, isn't this a fan misconception? I remember reading Sawyer explaining that the "BoS destroying NCR gold" was effectively the BoS war causing a total loss of faith in the government and the economy which caused the economic failure resulting in the switch to fiat currency, rather than the BoS pulling a Goldfinger. As it's already been pointed out, Redding is alive and well.

I want all the factions dead with all new ones taking their place so the series is unrecognizable in another 10 years.

That’s right, I forgot that Hanlon retires to Redding in some of his endings, although I assumed that Redding was some kind of brahmin-baron town rather than a mining town at that point. I guess I got the lore mixed up when I said that the brotherhood destroyed all the gold. Maybe I don’t know the fallout lore as well as I thought I did. Maybe I should be more like TorontoReign, and accept the futility of trying to make sense of fallout’s half-assed, nonsensical and often contradictory setting...

Yeah I made this when I was bored and noticed I hadn't posted here in a while so I just came up with something off of the top of my head. I posted cringe, but I still believe Redding shouldn't be up and running if broken hills isn't anymore.

If it's set post-Fallout 3, then Enclave for me. 'Nuff said to be honest. Should've died off after Fallout 2, but yeah.

Rather than dying I think that some organizations should probably change form. Instead of the Institute you could have individual scientists belonging to it. Maybe there isn't a whole chapter of the Brotherhood, but Just a squad with a mission.

Enclave is top on the chopping block.

We killed them once.

We killed them again.* We even extra-killed them this time in a DLC to make sure.

They even killed themselves once.

Die. Die. DIE!

I think there's only four acceptable ways for them to show up again:

1. Small, disparate remnants (as in New Vegas)

2. A desperate, collapsing organization. Morale is at rock bottom. They're leaking manpower like a Mario pipe and desertion is sky high. Constant bickering and strife. All the old Enclave beliefs have been shattered against the harsh reality of the wasteland. Enemies are closing in at all sides. The shinier tech is almost all gone and they're having to use make-dos. Belief in their superiority and invincibility no longer exists. No one knows what they are fighting for, anymore. There's no longer a Unified Chain of Command, only multiple people claiming they are the top dog. Everyone barely acts like the Enclave. Everyone is running, being hunted down, fighting each other, deserting or clinging to their hidey holes. Everything is fucked and the end is near. What happens next? That's for the player to decide. But it won't be anything we recognize as being the Enclave.

3. An organization made of former Enclave, but no longer the Enclave as we know it.

4. Prequel game.

*I think RETURN OF THE ENCLAVE was a cool plot (who doesn't love a good villain come-back for revenge?), but Fallout 3 did in such a lame way. They are Fallout's Biggest of Bads, they deserved a better triumphal return. Also, too soon. Enclave returning one game after being destroyed was meh.

Institute. They're a mess for the lore.

Either that or the Enclave because of how many times they've been absolutely shmaked 3 times over on the west and east coast.

I feel that the Hubologists and their wacked out shit religion should be the first to go. Their very presence in Fallout 2 made the game less serious and more Star Trek feeling.

Institute. They're a mess for the lore.

I think The Institute is a interesting concept, but it was done in an horrible way. They are just... boring and stupid. They aren't crazy wacky like the Think Tank, they don't have an interesting plan for the wasteland. They are pretty much a bunch of scientists experiment on the wasteland and making sure the Commonwealth can't get its shit together and kill them, because the Institute keeps messing with the Commonwealth and giving them good reason to kill them.

I think it shows how badly-done it is, when The Institute straight out creates life-extending, body-enhancing cybernetics and... just shuts the whole thing down and their leader chooses to die of cancer rather than turning into a cyborg, even through his organization probably has enough technology to create perfect small implants that would barely affect his daily life... just because he doesn't like the idea of being part-machine.

It also speaks of how stupid it is, when the Institute creates perfect replicas of human beings, and then vehemently denies that their perfect artificial human beings are actual intelligent beings, even through they are perfect human replicas.

"Humanity Redefined" could have been an interesting transhuman concept, and they could have exploited the blurring line and blending between Man and Machine, the birth of a new race. Instead, we got... whatever it was.

All of them.
