What the hell? Communist... (spoilers)

It Wandered In From the Wastes

...Chinese ghouls? What the hell have they been doing for the past 200 years?

And clipboards. Commie bastards are putting earnings reports and medical charts all over the fucking wastes in another of their bizarre schemes to undermine the American Way!

Ah.. given how furnished and well supplied the hidden places of Fallout 3 are, it's really not surprising they survived so long.

well the logic of bethesda fails again... wouldnt they have integrated into the society more during those 200 years? (either by friendly negotiations with other groups or possibly even settling in one of the villages, or at least be a well known force... nobody sneaks around for 200 years without anyone noticing, especially not ghouls in chinese uniforms!)

The thing I don't get is they are meant to be Chinese special forces but wear standard non combat uniforms and russian hats. Also they appears to have about 50 weapons per person, judging by how many Chinese pistols and combat shotguns are around the place, but for some reason decided to spead them around.

chinesse military remnants could have been surviving just in DC. so it was ok.
what i dont like about it is that they could have been doing something better than just looking at each other pretty faces

they could have gone home, or maybe set some plan in motion, something. they way i found them felt like they were waiting for me to put them out of their misery.

if ya read "comrade cheng's" console dairy entries in tenpenny tower you see that at least they werent exactly doing nothing for 200 years.... though it would be cool if bethesda actually made them more then very unique raiders in one location and chinese communism in dc only mentioned in one diary....

What if most of them don't understand English?

People, don't you get it?

It's been only 200 years after the bombs fell! If wooden structures can survive a nuclear holocaust and then survive 200 years (as we can see in FO3, they can survive), it is very possible for a Chinese communist, who live longer than a normal, fat caucasian, to survive so long! And even that, he turned into a ghoul, that gives him even longer living!
That is very possible, and as you can see, it's very well explained in the game why he's still alive.

So stop whining about such details, and enjoy the game for a crap sake!!

Hail Bethesda!!

1.) I would think that, being an infiltration unit, a lot of them should know English, or at least have an abundance of translators.

2.) 200 years is plenty of time to learn even rudimentary functional English. I mean, the Chinese in San Fran in Fallout 2 were supposed to be the decendents of a Chinese nuke sub, right? They integrated just fine.

Oh man, I was just posting about this.

This is totally baffling to me; they clearly speak English, since when you have a peek at their terminal---and it's heavily implied that the whole plant was a massive ChiCom cover operation---but there's no way you can actually, you know, talk to them. They don't even speak as you gun them down, one by one or in dozens! I can't help but feel that in FO1 or FO2 there would have been an option to dialogue, or something connecting them to the outside world, but sadly in FO3, this doesn't seem to be the case.

You'd especially think that, given that these guys are an astonishingly well-armed and equipped force (rocket launchers! sniper rifles! dingy-but-snappy uniforms!) that they would be more of a force in the Capitol Wasteland, or that they would do something beyond hunkering up in their ruined factory (which has a number of gas leaks) endlessly patrolling and broadcasting looped propaganda.

There could have been a story here, and there wasn't. That's really saddening.

This whole issue was argued over in another thread, but I have huge issues with these guys.

A) What were they doing in DC anyway? Canon talks about the physical battle between US and Chinese troops in Alaska, but never mentions it in DC, which is fine, I suppose. Maybe that information was lost, who knows, but DC is landlocked, and would be difficult to get to. Now, assume that it was a small force, infiltrating. That'd be fine, except for the seemingly endless supply of Chinese Pistols, Chinese Assault rifles, and Chinese Officer's Swords (wtf). This seems to indicate an invasion-sized force, yet we see no signs of an invasion. There'd be more Chinese descended people running around the wastes, speaking Chinese. Yet we only find a single grouping of Chinese ghouls, what happened to the rest of them? They died in the bombs? Maybe, but some had to survive, right? Not just some small grouping, if it was an invasion-sized force a lot would have survived, right? It makes zero sense.

Now you have the Chinese ghouls, for two hundred years, hiding out in some building. Why didn't they try to go home? Why do they just sit there for two hundred years? The main character from the second Fallout managed to find a ship that was functional, why couldn't they?

We have an opportunity to make a story from it, if...the CS is going to be released.

I thought the Chinese were beaten in Alaska:

So how did they get all the way to the east coast?
