Where will the next Fallout take place?

Bethesda may be already working on the next Fallout game. Regardless of whether it will be good or not, where do you think the next game will take place? Fallout 4 may be the title, but who knows? I have a bunch of ideas for possible locations. I personally think New York is way over rated, and should be skipped for now. I also think popular suggestions like San Fran and LA aren't as good, since those locations have been done before.

Here are a few ideas that have been listed so far:

Seattle - They could touch on the Canadian annexation, the Space Needle, and a more "Winterized" wasteland. Fallout 3 had green, FNV had brown, and Seattle would have white-in reference to the color scheme...I don't know if I explained that properly.

New England - Fallout 3 had already sown some seeds with references to the Institute and the Commonwealth. While my hopes are not high, a Post-Apocalyptic Boston with minutemen fighting invading mutants on Bunker Hill, I mean, Breed's Hill, would be amusing.

New Orleans - We'd had some discussions about how the Big Easy would be a great location for a Fallout. Of course New Orleans has a rich and varied cultural background. Voodoo or Hoodoo would be awesome to utilize in a Fallout setting. This would be a very interesting locale to say the least.

New York - The obligatory New York spot. It has plenty of iconic locations, but I feel the scope would have to be massive to do it justice. I imagine Sinatra being played when I think of New York. Would the WTC be around? How would the Statue of Liberty look? What about Central Park? Plenty of material to work with.

Hawaii - Yes. I said that. Pearl harbor re-imagined as a nuclear first strike. Whatever. I want to choose not to rescue entire vilages from enroaching lava flows and fall into punji stick traps. Samoan tribals, feral dolphins escaped from weird Naval programs, etc. Also, plenty of military sites available to justify silly new (and old) weapons, and an oppressed local culture with a history of killing people just for showing up and being a dick. No BoS or enclave, because why the fuck would they bother?

Detroit - I am working on a game concept for this city. The city is practically a post apocalyptic wasteland in real life. Detroit Motors could play a big role. The Great Lakes area is something I am very interested in. Fresh Water would be VERY important in a PA society, and the Great Lakes have the most fresh water around. A good excuse to bring back the Highwayman.

Toronto - Practically a double for New York, but without the tired cliche. I am anxious to know about Canada and their annexation. Once again this is a vastly different environment than previous games. I think the series needs to progress in a different direction.

Chicago - Enclave has been done to death, but they were mentioned as having a base there. Could bring back the Midwest Brotherhood as well. It's worth considering at least. Many of these locations all exist in the Great Lakes area. I personally think a Great Lake area Fallout is plausible.

Miami - Not much to say here. Would be a welcome change from other bleak environments. Tropical atmosphere, and mutated crocs(alligators?). Anyplace in Florida would be pretty different in comparison to 3 and NV.

Dallas - I am curious what would be done with this town. The Texas Rangers would be interesting to see. I also wonder if the Legion would be around. Austin and San Antonio might make interesting locations as well.

There is a remote possibility of the game taking place outside the US. I think this is a poor choice, but it should be acknowledged.
London, Hong Kong, Rome, and many others have been mentioned. Fallout is more about Americana though.

I guess there could be the option for a city such as the Boneyard, or San Fran taking center stage again. I hope not, but it is a possibility. They could feature the Capitol Wasteland as well, but I think they should move one. I would be pretty disappointed if they featured DC or New Vegas again personally.

Any thoughts folks? Any way we can get some kind of a Poll going guys? I personally don't see why future DLC couldn't feature specific city environments, like a DLC for Chicago for instance, similar to what Point Lookout and the Pitt did. FNV did a great job with the Big Empty. I think something could be done like that for a major city as well. Discuss, post pics, etc.......

Edit: I put in a few of the suggestions that others have added. I added a few of my personal comments in as well.

Detroit - The Great Lakes - Chicago-

I guess I'd probably shoot myself if Bethesda reveals they are putting their Fallout in these regions. :|

Why!? I think Detroit embodies 1950's culture.

It's because I have set my game in exactly this region of the USA and work on it for quite some time already... ;) That said, I would ofcourse like to see a Fallout in that region.. But not by Bethesda. :D

The canadian border and some snowy areas, the same like above... Texas, Dalls and such I think is more of an area for a New Vegas Sequel. Florida with more vibrant colors (but still being a wasteland) could work.

Great Lakes region - If Bethesda can pull themselves together long enough to invent a water-mob that isn't a giant crab or a fucking mirelurk, anyway. Maybe giant carnivorous zebra mussles? It'd give the invasion biologists a reason to play video games instead of killing animals for a living. Also, Canada tie in, Ontario and Quebec are still going to have interesting cultural friction, even after annexation. Could be something there.

Alsoplus, it's one of the most ethnically diverse states in the union. Lots of material, Chinese connections. Deep msytic mumbo jumbo in place and available to be used for quests...the volcano is a goddess, you know.

Atlantis - Kidding.

I'd love to see fallout set in another country, but not unless Bethesda gets a hold of a top notch local developer where ever they set the story. I just don't trust a Bethesda not to utterly sanitize whatever location they choose. We don't need hordes of any Bolivian (or where ever) fallout fans pitching a thoroughly justifiable fit because their country was glossed over and caricatured by a bunch of stupid gringo nerds. Nor do we need to play that sort of game. I'd like a local take on fallout from a developer who knows their area.

New England - Fallout 3 had already sown some seeds with references to the Institute and the Commonwealth. While my hopes are not high, a Post-Apocalyptic Boston with minutemen fighting invading mutants on Bunker Hill, I mean, Breed's Hill, would be amusing.

(Especially if the Mutants are wearing triangle hats and wearing red jackets... With wigs. And monocles... And drinking tea. Pinkie extended.)

Anyway, silliness aside, there would be a good deal of potential there.

New Orleans - We'd had some discussions about how the Big Easy would be a great location for a Fallout.

Atlantis? I had run a Fallout-based game on Atlantis once. I botched it, in retrospect.

I second this motion.

Regardless of where the next game from Bethesda is set... I just hope so much that it's somewhere far on the east coast.

I think Florida or New York would be good.

New York may seem obvious, and I think it'd work better as a DLC, but it's so iconic that it'll have to be used in Fallout at some point.

And Florida, because I mentioned in some other posts that I want to see a big rebuilt theme park being used as a stronghold.

Make one in Texas, follow the equation-

1. Fallout Games are too short

2. Everything is bigger in Texas

that's all you need to know

What? It's quite the contrary (except for Fallout 1 which had the perfect length) most of them are stuffed to the get go with content which is too much, Fallout 2 is the winner in the "game is too long for its own good"category...

Not really, my first playthrough of FNV was only 30 hours (NCR route) that is pretty short for an RPG

But factoring in this was your first playthrough, and so you probably didn't do much of the side-quests, not to mention DLC.

You are correct about the DLC but I did every sidequest I could find (before I found the wiki)

I'd love if where set in Detroit! Think about it: Ruined Automotive plants, Soul music, no Enclave or Brotherhood, no Super Mutants, it's perfect! It'd allow for a fresh start faction and story wise. And it would be a perfect excuse for them to add a car to the game!

I'd love it where Bethesda doesn't get to make a Fallout game at all. Unless you want boring exploration, laughable characters, ridiculous dialogue and also tons of shit, I fail to see a reason to disagree with me.

A reason to disagree with you is if you don't believe Fallout 3 has boring exploration, laughable characters, ridiculous dialogue and also tons of shit. And I don't thing it does.

Just a matter of opinion though.

This. I have a ton of ideas for a Great Lakes Fallout game. It is a prime spot in my opinion. Fresh water would be important for any wasteland survivors. Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, and you gotta mention good old Grand Rapids, Michigan. Shop smart, shop S-Mart....YA GOT THAT!? The area is ripe for the picking practically. Bethesda needs to read these forums for ideas. I am sick of hearing about New York though. Everyone uses New York for everything- Comics, movies, games, tv-shows, etc....

It could be done well, but why rush it? Save New York for a graphic engine that works better.

@Subhuman: Yeah I'm working on a Detroit area concept too. It would be cool to collaborate on something if you like. I figure if Bethesda doesn't make it, someone can always mod it. The mod community seems to be more focused on boobs and explosions though instead of making new environments that fit the canon. It's a shame really.

Someone in another forum mentioned that Bethesda should make the world for Fallout 4, but Obsidian should write the dialog. I think some kind of collaboration would be the next best thing to Obsidian having full control (Which isn't very likely)...

I liked the Mojave better than DC personally, but apparently not everyone felt the same way. It would be nice to see a change of scenery in the next game though. I think New Orleans is a good idea, but Point Lookout touched on that kind of environment already. I am anxious to seeing weather in a Fallout game without mods. As boring as Fallout 3 was, when you added the Weather mods it completely changed the experience. I loved the radioactive rain personally. It made it dangerous to wander the wastes.

Anyway, keep the ideas coming folks. I want to see what the hardcore fanbase thinks. I know the series could be in better shape, but I try to make the best of it. I am a little hopeful after New Vegas, but I hope Fallout 4 isn't as shitty as Skyrim, because if that is the case I may lose it. I will remain patiently optimistic until I see reason to get pissed.

I was thinking about a concept for the Great Plains in Fallout. I can imagine Radioactive Cyclones, Cowboys, and Brahmin Rustlers in a weird wasteland atmosphere. Maybe it's just me.

Combine Harvester Outta Power?

You see: Your sister.
She looks: Almost sexy.

Also, back on topic, I do hope there's more weather in the next one. The lack of weather in games bugs me, (I thought Gears of war handled rain pretty well) but they shouldn't go overboard with it either. FO:NV game me a pleasant surprise with the dust storm in hidden valley...It was disappointing to learn it was just more BoS techno-fuckery.
