Why do you like NMA?

I'll be honest with you, I came here originally to discus Fallout as a whole, but felt the place was too depressing for the reputation F3 had.
Now I'm 5 years older and have had a chance to understand game development and writing a lot more, I can see the praise the series gets as a whole.
I still love 3 and 4 (even through all I seem to do is talk shit about 4) so I can find a home here.
Plus it beats the Facebook groups, which aren't really Fallout Fanatics as they are Bethesda Fanatics.

Anywhere else, if you like something and the people there don't, they tell you to fuck off. At best they tell you to fuck off, politely. You are also not allowed to have a different opinion from the most popular one at the present. Also, the admins may or may not ban you based on their opinions of you.

Here, if you like something and people here don't, they tell you why and how it could be improved. You are also allowed to have different opinions. Also, the admins here are the best forum admins I've ever seen. Also, here, it's always possible to find someone who agrees with you.

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
- not Voltaire, it was actually Evelyn Beatrice Hall

1. the color layout pleases me, nice and dark and murky
2. intelligent people. OH GET OVER YOURSELVES!!!
3. sensible moderation

It's been ±10 years since I've been a member of any forum, so I can't really compare NMA to anything else, but Motherboard/Vice actually brought me here. I knew NMA existed, I frequented the site when I was younger, but I never actually made it on to the forums for some reason.

This is the article that brought me to the forums. It's Dutch, though, and during my twelve second search on google I couldn't find an English version of the article, so I'll just assume there isn't one.

Anyway, after some lurking I found out that you guys are a fun bunch. That's it. I'm not going to say pretentious things like 'people are intelligent here', though, 'cause that would imply that I am too. I do like how different opinions go together here without escalating in all out flame wars like on reddit (or worse: youtube comments).

I don't consider myself to be a genius or to have an intelligence above average. What I meant is that the community is more mature (I hate that word), and the general age here seems to be higher than on most gaming forums.

Age is not a very good indicator of maturity, especially in the gaming community

Well thanks a bunch dude >:'I

(it IS okay to admit intelligence, by the way. Especially if you actually are)
I'm gonna go with maturity like the rest here. Everyone here seems pretty mature. Also, no offense. I didn't think this post through. ;')
The whole remark was more aimed at myself than others anyway.

Strangely enough, on the majority of opinions about games on NMA, I agree with about 80% of it, feel dead neutral about 10% of it, and strongly disagree with the rest. It's like I strongly agree with most points but when there's an opposing opinion to mine, it's really on the other far side, which is a thing I feel is unique to this forum. I don't think any other community would allow opinions to get this diverse without being met with flame wars and hate speeches immediately.

But really, when I disagree with someone's view here, which I rarely do, I really disagree. There's nearly no middle ground at all. It's just opinions that are pretty much exactly like mines or ones that completely opposes mines. That's kind of great, to be honest.

Well if we all weren't people with diverse opinions then conversing amongst each other would likely get dull quick. It's what I love about this forum, you don't have to worry about someone stepping on your balls just because some of your opinions can differ from theirs.

I think most of reddit would disagree with you. Reddit: Land of the Circlejerk

I like NMA because it's more forgiving than RPGCodex. I don't like gangrape much.

Eh, 4 out of 5 people enjoy gangrape.

Yeah, I'll report myself.

I don't like NMA, I hate it!
I hate it because:
  • I hate how everyone around here knows how to type and doesn't use chat-speak
  • I hate how even when people disagree with me, we can discuss our point of view in a decent and civilised way and even if at the end we still disagree at least we can understand the other person's opinion
  • I hate how people understand my sense of humour and get my jokes instead of thinking I am serious and be ready to lynch me
  • I hate how this community is not like outside people say it is
  • I hate the moderators and admins for not abusing their power
  • I hate how NMA treats trolls
  • I hate how it lures me into typing and sharing my opinion so much
  • I hate how it welcomed me into the community so fast and with open arms
  • And I hate how they will understand this post :wiggle:
