your favorite (computer) RPGs

we already had a topic about your favorite pencil and paper RPG, but what are your favorite computer roleplaying games?

my favorite are (of course) Fallout 1&2 and Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall. i'm currently playing Morrowind. though it's not as good as Daggerfall, it's still pretty great. as for hybrid action/roleplaying and strategy/roleplaying games, i love Diablo II (if you play on battle.net, let me know), Deus Ex (IMHO one of the greatest games ever) and Heroes of Might&Magic 3 (ah, the countless hours of fun. ah, the fighting and bickering with my frenemies. ah, the titan's gla...ok, enough :) )

diablo 2 was a major bullshit, diablo brough some good things into computer gaming, and it was fun to play until the cheaters spoiled it with staff of apocalypse and such things...

Fallout is, by any means, one, if not the best Role playing games.

Morrowind is not as good as you think it is. It's maybe appealing at the beggining, but when you figure some things out, like flaws, you can exploit them and make the game too easy...
Daggerfall is a great game, and Bethesda made an exellent job on this sequel. Aside that I got borded with it...

Heroes of M&M? I think of it as a strategy game spiced up with character development. It cannot be a Role playing, since there is no role in there :) HoMM 4 is, really, pure shit. Another example on how to take a shit on a certain franchise.

fallout 1+2, albion, morrowind's pretty good but one period i like and then its boring for a period and then i like it a gain so I'm not quite sure on that one. And homm4 isn't that bad, at least if u play with someone (timeconsuming but fun). By the way anyone here heard about albion?I recommend it. I think it's freeware (1995 or 1996) and you can find it if you search on www.abandongames.com. A great game!!!The first game i got, and the 2nd good game i played after WC2

Diablo was real fun, but i wouldn't say Diablo II is bullshit. in single player it's boring as hell, but if you play on realms, it's more addictive than Jet! well, it was, but then all that hacking and duping started and kinda ruined the experience. it's still fun if you manage to find nice people you can trust.

the only way to enjoy Morrowind is to roleplay it, i guess. which means, even when you know about the flaws, you just ignore them. for example, i noticed you can snatch "inhabitated" soul gems worth 60000+ gold, and than pay fines as if they were empty. also, all stuff you steal you can drop on the ground, surrender to guards and tell them you will return the stolen goods. they accept it, but you don't really return anything, because you dropped the goods...oh, well, Morrowind is an incredibly complex game, so that kind of shit is unavoidable.

Heroes is not really roleplaying, but it has certain roleplaying atmosphere, with all that exploration, all those cool creatures, magic items and other features. that game is a real masterpiece.
Heroes 4? it's 3D0's version of Fallout POS. almost never fun. oh, and did you play Might & magic 10? (or was it 9? i'm not sure anymore) yet ANOTHER example of how to ruin a great RPG series...

My favourites:

1.) Fallout 1
2.) Fallout 2
3.) Morrowind (I roleplay!)
4.) Arcanum
5.) Neverwinter Nights

I play D2 on b.net with the account DarkShade1989 (Wow, ain't I creative?) on U.S. East. Deus Ex is an awesome game I have to buy sometime.

Fallout 1&2: Granted because they were immersive games and because I'm scared of the lynch mob that'd show up if I said otherwise.

Morrowind/Daggerfall: Same elements and very, very detailed. You can lose yourself in the world for hours. Only thing I didn't like was that the skill system could be exploited (holding down the sneak button to increase your Stealth) and because the leveling system was linked to the skill system and required advanced planning.

Betrayal at Krondor/Return to Krondor: First game was way better. Set in Midkemia, my favorite fantasy setting (See my rant concerning Raymond E. Feist for details ). You have to give the game applause with what they accomplished with the limited technology at the time.

Arcanum: Liked it, liked it, liked it. In Fallout 2, when the pugilist in Klamath jibes you by offering to teach you magic, that got me sitting me up in my chair. Wouldn't it be neato (hey, I was twelve when I started playing Fallout) if there was a Fallout game with magic? Fortunately, Tim Cain and Company answered this pondering with Arcanum. It mixes a bit of fantasy amidst a mid 1800 setting with gunslingers and arcane mages abound. And, boy, what a storyline. I was hoping that Troika would hire an author to write out the adventure in Arcanum. Philip Athans wrote the Baldur's Gate story but he fucked it up so bad, you had to wonder if he even played the game. Anywho, Arcanum was great.

Dungeon Siege: I'm not a fan of the hack and slash nonsense (ahem, Diablo) but Chris Taylor's Dungeon Siege had just the balanced level of mindless killing coupled with a small squad tactical control. "Stroll into a dungeon and bash some heads", indeed. Graphics were very detailed (gargoyles jumping out of their statued post while get your heart leaping). Once again, another former developer from Interplay flourishes. Too bad all the good ones left.

Fallout 2
Arcanum
BG II

I wasn't too impressed with Neverwinter Nights. Morrowind is fun at first, but then it becomes very repetitive. I never really got into Fallout, haven't played Planescape: Torment. Diablo II was fun at first, but got boring pretty quick...

I miss some of the old console RPGs (Sword of Vermillion, Phantasy Star II, Phantasy Start III, etc...)

Fallout 1, Betrayal at Krondor. Then again my RPG experience is kinda limited.

O yeah! Forgot Torment, you're right.. Loved that game, but it was over very quickly for a multi-cd game.

I seem the only one loving Ultima Underworld and the Ultima's.. am I that old?

I'm kind of with you :)

Well lets see...

1) Fallout
2) Fallout 2
3) Silver
4) Dink Smallwood
5) Baldur's Gate
6) Torment
7) Birthright: The Gorgon's Alliance
8) Dragons and Deamons
9) A heroes quest
10) Might and Magic (includes pretty much all of them).
11) Mordor 2

There many more I guess but those were the only ones that came into my mind right now...

my only contact with Ultima was Ultima Ascension, and it sucked so bad that i almost threw up playing it. i'm planning to get Ultima Underworld and play it, they say it's one of the best RPG's ever.
