Your favorite Fallout moment from F3

BurkeAvenger

First time out of the vault
***Spoilers****

Even though I saw it coming from a mile away, finding out that the ENCLAVE is a FUCKING MACHINE was a big shock. I mean they have such a big presence throughout the game and

It was just such a well written twist. It's the classic Fallout 1 / Fallout

2 Moral dilema. Do you choose to sacrifice your life so that other people can use the water purification or do you let the girl get in instead? Do you poison the well? Like I said, it was good to know the spirit of Fallout universe was present and well.

3. Fat boy. Nuff said haha.

4. Awesome gore.

What's your favorite moment from F3?

Slaver quests hands down. I also enjoyed anytime VATS followed my sniper round in slow motion to the opponents head.

i went into the Capitol building for the first time last night. Awesome. Black Talon mercs duking it out with Super Mutants. They had their own fight going on, and hardly took notice of me. I was legging mutants and mercs left and right with my hunting rifle, and they were none the wiser. I crept around in side until I made it into the main domed room in the building. Super mutants and a behemoth taking on Talon Mercs. That was freaking awesome.

This cracks me up. Whereas you had a blast watching them duke it out on the other hand I can see some nerd fan throwing his controller in anger because there aren't supposed to be Super Mutants in the Fallout universe Oh my GOD!!! *pssst there are*

Nothing specific, but...

Found a supermutant with a minigun in the middle of the wastelands next to a truck.

I fired at the gun itself with my laser rifle, breaking it. The mutant charged, and I switched to the scoped Magnum for better close-range firepower (yay for "Gunslinger" perk!)

The mutant whips out a frag grenade and pulls the pin. I quickly hit VATS and fire twice at his arm, crippling it.

The mutant staggers, the grenade drops and blows up at his feet, killing him!

Felt like a million dollars really...

Another sweet moment was when I was in one of the metro tunnels beneath downtown DC. It was dark, and i was sneaking. I didnt' realize I was literally surrounded by broken old cars. I took out a pack of feral ghouls wih a grenade. About 15 seconds later, a car blows up, and starts a VERY deadly chain reaction of explosions, fire, and radiation, all within a small space. I think I literally crawed out of the wreckage and survived.

Bye bye troll.

Vault 112 was awesome at first, although the dialogue ruined it.

Funny thing, have yet to do vault 112. I was kinda pissed with vault 67, so I skipped that vault to do the endgame.

On a side note, Im glad burke is gone, he was quite irritating with the whole insult thing.

Yeah I remember doing that too once and thought it was pretty cool. I chucked a frag over to a few super mutants in one of the subway tunnels and after throwing it I realized there was a train of busted cars that trailed to me. I tried running but the chain reaction ended up almost taking me out entirely.

My fav moment so far has to be sniping a raider that was running straight towards me, blowing him into pieces and then seeing a raider who was directly behind him, covered in blood, turn and run away. I proceeded to chase him down with the ripper, laughing as I did it.

Favorite F3 moments...so far? (spoilerish)

I'm curious to see what people's favorite moments are so far. Mine was finding Canterbury Commons for the first time. I found the place at about 2 am, and saw what looked like a woman dressed up as an ant yelling at a man dressed up as a robot. I was right. It was hilarious.

Walking out of the Vault for the first time was one of them, for sure. It left me feeling totally overwhelmed and even a little scared. Like "well, I've got to head somewhere but I know there's stuff out there that wants to eat me and all I've got is this pistol"

I think my overall favorite so far was an unscripted thing though. I was walking up near the Germantown police HQ, trying to sneak around a group of Super Mutants, when I saw a raider gang further down the hill. I managed to blow the head off of one of them from pretty far away, and then run up the hill so that the mutants were in between myself and the raiders....and yeah things got ugly from there. At one point one of the raiders panicked and ran, and I couldn't stop laughing cause a mutant with a nail board was chasing her down the hill yelling mutant insults. Priceless.

Blowing four raiders beating another one with a grenade using VATS!
A very, beautifull picasso !

blowing up car with grenade is also funny!

Three of them so far, and I'm not going to stop playing.

[spoiler:8934eba431]The first behemoth you see, in front of the GNR building. Huge, terrifying, and it gives you a chance to get your hands on a Fat Man and legitimately launch a nuke at it. And that, odds are, the behemoth took the nuke to the face and KEPT ON GOING until its last bit of health was gone? Great fight.[/spoiler:8934eba431]

[spoiler:8934eba431]Tenpenny Tower. If you want to be a good guy and negotiate an agreement between the ghouls and the residents, you'll have an unpleasant surprise when you come back later. It's bad (and creepy) enough when Roy kills Alistair Tenpenny, but when it turns out that the ghouls slaughtered all of the residents and stuck their remains in the basement? Just horrifying, and awesomely dark.[/spoiler:8934eba431]

[spoiler:8934eba431]Tranquility Lane. A sepia-toned Leave it to Beaver fantasy where the creator of the G.E.C.K. in the form of a little girl with a creepy Sigmund Freud voice systematically tortures the survivors from before the war, and has you join in on the fun.[/spoiler:8934eba431]

I think most of these examples (while they may be good on their own) are far from being "Fallout moments".

Then again, to be honest, there is actually not much in the game which has really made me actively feel "fuck yeah, this feels like the old games". But finding one of the old abandoned vaults (the one connected to the musicians) was pretty damn Fallout-y first. I never really felt the mental connection between Vault 101 and the Vaults in the old Fallout for some reason, but exploring this abandoned Vault instantly made me think back on the abandoned vaults of the older games in a visual sense.
It was somewhat ruined by the presense of Mirelurks, which totally didn't fit in there.

There are some other great moments though, which don't necessarily remind me of Fallout. Seeing Rivet City in the distance, having them pull out the bridge for me and entering was pretty fucking cool in a standard post-apocalyptic way. I think Rivet City is probably one of the better ideas in Fallout 3.

EDIT: Another nice little touch is the quest connected to Tenpenny Towers. If you help the ghouls into the Tower, they will actually end up slaughtering the inhabitants. Nice twist, thought that was Fallout-y. A shame that there doesn't appear to be some sort of follow-up where you can really confront the ghouls through dialogue (well, you can kill them I suppose but not the same thing).

SPOILERS

Eden being a computer was a great twist and verily unexpected. Dialog with him was a bit weak though, much weaker than with Richardson in FO2. Bit too easy to persuade him to sign off. But it was a great Fallout moment!

Harold becoming a full grown tree was interesting too. Didn't like how the quest ends at all though, no Karma involved? He's happy with anything.

Actually if yu burn him down, thus inducing a very painful and labored death, you lose karma.

Ok thats the one of the four possible endings I didnt try out =) Didnt have a flamethrower handy anyhow.

Now that I think of it, I liked the idea of the supermutants abducting humans to turn them into mutants in their vault too.

The Trainquility Lane vault was an original idea too.

Lol. The moment I stepped inside the room where the prez was supposed to be, and the only thing I saw at first was metal stairings leading upwards, I kinda figured it was going to be some machine. It would have been more surprising if the prez was a human tbh.

My favourite moment was when I threw a frag grenade at two ghouls leaning over a corpse, all in V.A.T.S. of course, and watched as the grenade went off and threw one ghoul up in the air, blowing both his feet off, and throwing the second ghoul away behind the smoke that the grenade emitted.

The ghoul stood up and charged me through the smoke, as I switched to my revolver and activated V.A.T.S. to go for a headshot, and a badass scene occured, where the camera followed the bullet to the ghoul's brain and threw the ghoul back into the smoke like the ragdoll bitch it was.

That made me chuckle.

Wandering the DC ruins I stumble into a house. I find a robotic butler, watch him read a poem to the skeleton of a child...Follow him outside as he looks for a long-dead dog. "Oh not again" he says (or something of the sort). Two super mutants fire on me and suddenly the robot collapses in a heap onto a pile of rubble, bullets passing over him, right in the height of "America the Beautiful" on Enclave Radio.

Probably better to have seen it - it was one of those few gaming moments that I'll always remember.
