I remember one time when I was playing Fallout with my own permadeath rules (basically the only rule was no reloading saves. The only time I could reload a save was when I quit and then wanted to come back to it. But if I messed up somehow, my rule was that I couldn't reload the save, and if I died, well then, that was it). It must have been my longest Fallout playthrough, and it made me seriously sit there and think about every single thing I did, as if I was there in real life.Anyways, I'm fighting some Super Mutants with Ian, and we are losing this fight. It's close, and if I get brave and strategic, I could possibly win it, but it will cost me a good amount of stims, and since its permadeath and no loading old saves rules, I knew the best thing was to just accept my loss and get the hell out of there. Anyways, I start running. We start to get away at first, the super mutants are slow. Turns pass, and we are almost out of the battle, me running, and Ian following behind me. Then Ian runs directly behind me, and a super mutant pulls out a rocket launcher and trys to fire it at me. It hit Ian, killing him instantly, givng that "Oops! Ian was critically hit for -- points of damage instead of Damen!" It knocked me down also, but I got back up and escaped with my life. Since I had a "no reload" and "permadeath" rule, I felt horrible about Ian, as if he actually died. A little later it hit me exactly what happened in the chaos of the moment, and I couldn't stop laughing, though I did pay a visit to those same mutants with Tycho and got revenge for Ian.Dogmeat also died on me. e got swarmed and trapped by ghouls. They trapped him in a circle, to where he couldn't run but he was hurt bad. I couldn't get close enough to get him a stimpak, so all I could do was sit back and pick off the ghouls with my rifle one by one and pray dogmeat would make it out. With only two ghouls left, dogmeat was finally free and just as he started to run, a glowing one killed him.Playing with permadeath and no reload rules is certainly an experience, and I would recommend it to anyone who has played and beaten both Fallouts.
