Your video game ideas

Yup, good ol' Shadowrun for the snes. I wonder why developers haven't used this setting for a game anymore...well, excluding this game of course:

Ewwww... :(

I just wish the licensing wasn't so problematic to make games based on books. There is a world of amazing sci-fi and fantasy writing out there that's never been done in the gaming industry. For example, my personal favorite is Zelazny's Amber series, it could make for an epic game series if it was ever picked up.

In fact, any sort of sci-fi/fantasy game based around alternate worlds would be great.

the problem is that the current gaming business is run by people in fancy suits. Not people with creative visions in mind. Sure all of them want to make money. But the same is true for books and movies. Yet both mediums offer enough room for experiments and mature work. It seems to be different with games where only the indi market seems to be open enough for interesting projects.

Then be sure to play this game if you haven't already, or simply watch the LP on youtube if you don't feel like playing it. There is a guy on youtube called 123pazu who makes awesome Graphic Adventure LP's, he made a Chronomaster LP as well.

They need money. A lot of it. They also need to sell the games.

Mine isn't entirely original, but something the gaming world deserves. A spiritual successor to Neverwinter Nights. A completely customizable RPG, which would be very module, and have the creative tools to allow players to make worlds for whatever purpose, be it action, roleplaying, etc. I would probably take advantage of the d20 OGL for the rules, but keep it fantasy, while giving the potential for creators to add to it with whatever setting they could cook up. It would also ship with a Game Master client, letting GM's log in and manipulate the word, spawn monsters and trigger graphic effects, possess and use NPCs like a regular player would with his PC.

To this day, NWN is one of the most unique games of all time. Ten years after it's release, and I still play it quite frequently. I fall into the "people that roleplay" category and I would make this game specially for that group. But like I said, I would allow people to do what ever they wanted to. Small pen and paper style games? Check. Servers where the goal is to kill n loot, it would be allowed. Even allow creators to make single player stories for one character only if that's their fancy.

Couple people already mentioned a prohibition era mafia rpg. I think that would be really cool. Had a couple of other RPG setting that I think would be interesting:

Prehistoric - I think this would be an interesting setting because alot of the elements from traditional fantasy rpgs would be there, except they would be based on fact. "Monsters" would be replaced by megafauna that actually co-existed with humanity. Instead of having humans and dwarves and elves, there would be humans and neanderthals, which actually co-existed. Game could have a large survival element to it. Also "crafting" and innovating new tech seems like a natural fit too.

Modern Guerilla Warfare - I'd love a party based tactical rpg where a player controls a band of guerillas participating in a larger movement that is trying to topple a government. The player would have to choose how to use limited resources to best disrupt the government in his given area of operations. The focus wouldn't be on just completing missions successfully but on choosing the right missions. Different types of missions would influence public opinion, enemy morale, enemy's ability to move troops and resupply, etc. The original Jagged Alliance series is somehwat like this but I'm thinking the idea could be very much expanded.

I was thinking about this topic lately. I have lots of crazy ideas for new games, but something completely possible but highly-improbable I'd like to see would be a prequel to VtM:Bloodlines set in late-1940s LA. Some of the same characters would be there along with silver screen-era Hollywood style and cool period cars.

Can I get a Kickstarter project? No? I didn't think so.

:)

I would liek to make or play a game that uses the principles of the combat in Godhand but applies it to Sword fighting. That would be great.

The other day I day-dreamt about a very sand-boxy game simply called/themed "Somalia"

It would be like GTA, but with both violent and peaceful career options. Each career would have a few "token" promotions (so not to bog the system down)

for example
Student->Teacher->Doctor->Surgeon
Hoodlum->Rebel->Sargeant->Warlord

There would be some kind of interconnection between them, for example, doctors and surgeons would fix up injured rebels.
Obviously, each profession would be a "mini-game" in it's own right. One would drive buses or taxis, for small, local businesses, or fish or raid out on the ocean.

A background vibe of the game would be constant danger of stray bullets, surprise attacks by enemy factions, even Ethiopian/AU/US interventions, and of course - during the course of the game, territorial control would shift according to AI efforts (if the player is uninvolved in warfare)
A player playing as a rebel soldier would have the oportunity of playing typical fast and hectic first-person shooting, while one having been promoted to warlord or general would play it as a strategical map game.

I even imagine a kind of favor/disfavor system for commiting obvious crimes, in a country suffering from complete anarchy. Whichever faction controls the ground where you commit the crime, you will gain favor or disfavor by commiting crimes/doing heroic deeds. The more favor you have, the more you'd be allowed to go around acting like an asshole - but overdo the assholism, or neglect duties, and your favor would drop again.

I'd love that game :D

Someone needs to make a game like LA Noire where you're a serial killer/Mass murderer of some sort. You could stalk your prey, worry about disposing the body, and maybe investigate crime scenes as your occupation. I imagine something like a combination of LA Noire and Dexter. Maybe you could have a choice of whether you kill good people, bad guys, or both. Any thoughts?

I was thinking recently of a 2D Beat em up plataformer that incorporates Frustration as a mechanic. Every time the player dies he gets a buff in attack and speed but a huge debuff in Defense. Sometimes you would need this buff to get certain parts of the levels, and not having it would make certain parts a lot easier.

This sounds awesome. Hitman kinda felt like a serial killer at times. But the game you describe is no hitman. woa. vikodin just kicked in. wow. thanks emergency root canal.

Hello all,

I know its not much to begin with (no clear description of the gameplay yet) but one project I would love to do is called "The Golden Age of Rockets".

Its an action-adventure game (with stats) or a full RPG game that takes place in an alternative future.
Think the Fallout universe with its 50's technology aesthetics regarding computers, robots, rockets, and space creatures from old 50's movies, but in which the great war never happened and mankind ventured into space with nuclear powered rockets, exploring and colonizing nearby planets.

That I was inspired by Fallout is obvious but I also was greatly influenced by the"Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" RPG by TSR though I try to limit the comparisons as much as possible.
Perhaps there is even a little Dan Dare in this.

In my setting the Solar System is much closer to the pulp sci fi ideas of the 50's with planets like Mars, Venus, and various moons of Jupiter and Saturn being habitable and indeed inhabited by various creatures.

Venus is a swamp and jungle planet while Mars is an arid dry world littered with the ruins and pyramids of an extinct Martian civilization where the best inhabitable places are located in the kilometre deep canyons.

Of course also other elements of pulp sci fi appear such as the Martian Saucer Empire (working name), Venusian Warrior Women, mines on Mercury and the asteroid belt, space pirates, mad scientists and the Space Patrol; a group of brave astro men and women who seek to protect the space lanes and bring nefarious evil doers to justice.

But my idea is that behind all the ridiculousness there is also the exploration of issues similar to what we experience in real life, and that good and evil aren't as clear as they seem at first.

The game would be a mix of on-foot action/exploration and space travel/combat, and perhaps vehicle travel/combat on the planets.

I would like to pursue the RPG ideology of the Fallout games with solutions of quests involving either action, stealth, diplomacy, science, or a mix of all of them.
