So... anyone played it already? Started yesterday and played approx 1,7 hours (steam told me). I really like it so far. The graphic is cool, the gameplay is different than the games I play usually, the character design is great and in general I can not stop to think about it as a kind of new Oddworld-like world.

On the start it was a bit strange. I think, if I wouldn't like the setting by default, I would never have played longer than 10 minutes, but after a while it got better and better. The same with the combat style- I needed some time to get into it. Beside this... like I wrote above, it rocks.

Ah yeh, also I made some screens yesterday:

wow...wow...wow...WOW!
Don't know about the gameplay but the atmosphere looks realy fucking sweet! to bad my GPU is toasted! :( :( :( :(
kinda reminds me of Dark Earth...

thanks for sharing Lexx! :)

Played it yesterday. Don't know what to think of it though. It has :

-Awesome character design
-Cool graphics ( screenshots don't do it justice, it's very...special )
-Awesome combat animation
-Somewhat cool AI

But

-Pretty low replayability...Spent two hours on this game yesterday and I was bored reaaaaaaaaal fast because combats are more or less always the same.

I am really in love with it right now but I dont know if I can recomend it yet since it might be a game that is over soon and then you never want to go back to. Still consider it like watching a movie, it is incredibly inventive but also incredibly linear so you might as well watch it.

So far my favorite thing is the first bounty hunter, which should not be enough to spoil anything.

Also visually it is one of my favorite things in a while... one of my friends has an art style similar to this game so I need to get him to play it.

Lastly I'm always trying to support small publishers, especially foreign ones so $15 (pre purchase) feels like I'm not getting ripped off since a movie ticket and snack would cost that much in Boston.

Glad to see I'm not the only one playing it.

Man, I almost forgot it was out. I ran in on the big discount Steam had a few weeks back, since I have been following and looking forward to this game for some time.

Installing. I'll probably do a review of this for Gamernode.

:'(

BroNun! What happened to you and GameBanshee? Have you broken up or are you seeking the sultry comforts of a mistress?

Me and GB are still tite (though I'm on a bit of a newsposting hiatus right now), but Zeno Clash isn't an RPG, so it's not something I can review on GB. Whenever I play a new game and feel I have something to write about it but can't for GB, I go to GamerNode; Merchants of Brooklyn, World of Goo, Mirror's Edge

as the story mode plots you through a linear course with only a handful of different options to go through the same par course

This is the best pun that anyone has ever punned in the history of punning.

I'm playing this now, just got to the desert.. I'm constantly amazed by visual style, it's kak'n awesome. Gameplay is fun too, and yeah it's linear, which I personally don't give a damn about, I love linear games, I'd choose completely linear but fun game over empty non-linear piece of shit like Far Cry 2 any time.

That's the beauty of Half Life 2, sometimes the path gets wide and sometimes it gets narrow but it is only one path, therefore they can really control the experience and make sure it is cool.

Making things wide open and random is cool too but it does not lead to "emergent gaming" so much as accidental gaming. I did a review of Crysis a while back where I talk about how open ended gameplay just provides infinite options for me to do something stupid and get killed. GTA San Andreas is one of the best examples of this though, I dont know how many times something awful happened to me as a "once in a lifetime" thing, like having an aircraft crash in the middle of the city for no scripted reason.

Going back to Zeno Clash I cant wait I dont get home until 10 tonight (work + school) so I'm not playing it again until early tomorrow morning before work.

Anyone try any of the modes yet?

Okay, without any silliness, should I buy this game?

If people here really recommend it I will pick it up as soon as possible as I am in for a new game.

Ok, what I can say is that it makes one hell of a first impression, and in a day or two most people should be able to tell you how it is overall. But I'm still loving it.

Finished it a few hours ago. It is still pretty cool, imo, but like MrBumble wrote above, combat is mostly the same and if you are not good with the controls, you will only perform the same tactic over and over again because you need some training for the more complex fighting stuff. I personally tried a few times to make some cool moves, but it seems like I am too slow sometimes or my reaction is bad.

Anyway, played it on the default difficult level and needed approx 4 hours. The story is cool- you start at the end and play through what happened before. I don't want to write more about it, heh.

Also the end is a kind of cliff hanger, so I really hope that we will see a full length Zeno Clash 2 title in the future.

Just finished it.
Didn't expect it to be so linear. Not sure why. Don't think they ever promised a lot of exploring or anything.

I had a tough time getting used to the controls, and also found it pretty easy to damn yourself for some encounters if you didn't utilize your possibilities enough.
And those block reversing kicks or whatever can be pretty hard to pull off.
I was sorta hoping for more story too. It was kinda short.... Which might also explain why I didn't get so good at fighting.
But all in all, I really enjoyed it and found it to be well worth my money (then again I bought it when it was 50% off :P).

Recommendation from me.

I have just purchased the game, I hope its as entertaining as you all found it to be.

The price is not such a problem but you never want to buy a game that turns out to be poor.

For some reason I have to think of those heavy metal movies when I see the screenshots.

Edit:

Definitely a little repetitive in the beginning, but its interesting although I sometimes have difficulties with the combos.

My g.f. is not very patient when it comes to just watching me play, so I've been doing my gaming in 30 minute sessions before getting ready for work. I just passed the boat sequence and went back into the crazy folk forrest. I'm still really enjoying it, but does anyone know how far into the game I am? I kind of have to finish it by this weekend if I'm going to write about it for my website.

Also has anyone messed with the challenges yet? I havent had the time myself...

The challenges are ok if you like the combat, it's just fighting the NPCs you fight in the game in mixed order. It's ok. Though good god do I hate fighting heavies.

Finished it. I'm not overly impressed. Setting-wise it's brilliant, the story starts slow but is actually pretty damned good at the end, but the big gameplay experiment is kinda eh. It's not exactly bad, but the action can't really carry the game, so that's left to the story and world design, which do a fantastic job.

Good thing it's so short.

Nope, no demo. I think a demo would also be way too short. (Or you would play half of the game)

What I can say: I bought the game for 11 Euro and got approx 4 hours good fun. I bought one of the Fallout 3 DLCs for 10 Euro and it bored the shit out of me two hours long. Just sayin'. :>
