I always type "cop to [insert currency]" because it gives me a currency calculator for the Colombian peso
Seriously, cut off water to do roadwork, I'd prefer if they spent a week cutting off water for 1 hour at the time - rather than all damn day

    - we are hard-wired to simply reject any notion of REAL danger or REAL risk. Nothing ever happens to us. My mom had her water shut off *for a week* and while she gave up, not knowing what to do, my brother had to phone and argue with the local administration to have her offered a hotel room, because *no human can go a week without water* Norwegian or no Norwegian

But we have this deeply ingrained sense, that nothing's ever gonna happen, so nobody needs warnings, nobody needs to avoid bullets, and nobody needs warnings should their water be shut off for a day or a whole week.

In a country like Slovakia - or Portugal, correct me if I'm wrong, but - when the bullets fly, do you people walk right into the cross-fire like nothing is happening?

Nope, I think it takes some time for anybody to gain trust of the locals, folks are pretty cautious here. Could be due to decades of military occupation with sock puppet oppressive government, young generation seems to be more open.
Have I missed a joke? Why are nearly 27 000 people hashtagging about "Chirstmas"? It's even further down the list of hash suggestions

The current peak of winter here is indeed very cold, and we can get snow sometimes more than half a metre deep, right here in the city. Business as usual - but! The peak lasts shorter, and is pushed to later. Sometimes we get entire Decembers of rain and persisting green lawns.

Then, as soon as snow settles in late December or even January, people (including my own family here) goes "see? snow! so much for climate-drama!"
It's bothersome because it's such a defensive stance, when nobody really demands anything of them. Nobody says "YOU! Fix climate!", it's just something that's happening around us...

Wow, we got a little bit of snow today. Surprised. We used to get snow around November/December/Janurary but it's been pushed back to late Dec into even March or rarely April now... It's upsetting to see this.
Lol, Taken 2 is such a dumbass movie

What a coincidence. I talked about the Taken movies to someone who had never seen any and didn't know who Liam Neeson was. Just an hour or so before you posted this.

There must be a Taken curse around or something.

    Netflix uploaded Taken + 2 and 3

I "love" how the characters have to refer to being "taken" every time, it is particularily jarring in the 2nd movie, when Liam Neeson tells his daughter that he and her mother have been - - - taken! BeCauSE ITs tHE naME oF ThE MOVIE!

And Aen Elle the jerk elves being mostly dark haired is pretty much reference to Noldor of first age being the most humanlike elves (in term of assholeness and wicked deeds)

First age is full of tragedy from each races, be it either dwarves, elves and human. Some exception are House of Haleth (apparently dark skinned like ancient britons of Cheddar Men) and Druedain ( black neanderthal that can glow eyes red when angry and top tier hermit-golem crafter -mesolithic magitek society) who just chilling killing orcs without doing shit like kinslaying, bride kidnapping, betrayal, and incest.

So there are actually plenty of evils from 'the fair and noble race' not just monstrosity. Fallen Maiar too, if they choose to take beautiful form for scheming like Sauron, Thuringwenthil, Tevildo, etc.
Today I bought a bottle of gløgg, or mulled wine. I bought a pack of raisins and crushed almonds to go with it. It should be good!

It is served warm and crunchy. Does that seem atrocious to you, wherever you might be from? It's quite common in Scandinavia, for christmas times in particular. Alcohol-free versions are often served to kids, and often outdoors, to go along with the cold weather

I think I use Avira? I don't even know if it's good. I also always run MalwareBytes every so often with whatever AV I do use. MalwareBytes has been a godsend for me but if you want it to run all the time you have to pay for it.

The youtube/google algorithms are probably one of the most detrimental pieces of human technology ever concieved of. It has to be destroyed before it destroys us.

Just add "footage" to your search and you will find what you need.

You have to trick it by Google search with site operator, i.e. by putting "monsoon site:youtube.com" without quotation marks in the google search query. First three hits are educational youtube videos with youtube trending algorithm clearly bypassed.

I am continously astounded that so many people still regard sharp satire as "making fun of the victims"...
    zegh8578
    zegh8578
I get all that, and intention is paramount in every case. In most cases, satire is used with the intent to shed light on an issue. Sure, it could be done sincerely, like a Ted-Talk, but... then what's the point? What's the point of poetry, if you can just say what you mean with normal syntax? "Life is kind of difficult right now." <---half of all poetry ever written

There is very little benefit-of-doubt going around. And I have myself been a bit greedy with that benefit. A lot of the "free speech" and "political correctness is hurting society" I have been very quick to attack as being mere shields for hate-speech - which it often is. But *the very dynamic* of satire, would be to - for example - parody the hate-speeching champion of free speech
    zegh8578

I guess it keeps coming down to irony itself, in or outside of internet really, being very much a matter of who you are and who knows you. Like you said, with friends there is very little to worry about, but as soon as you're talking in public, you can rely mostly only on the fans who know you...
As a rule, I never click a youtube video that has a red circle somewhere in the thumbnail.
