He does play 16-18,and here's the funny part his mom is totally ok/oblivious with the games he plays. I bought him fallout1/2 and nv last Christmas,and she didn't even bat a eye. She took one glance at fallout 2 and thought "oh it's just a bunch robot guys shooting at other robot guys" then she walked out of the room. So you watched a bunch of cheesy 'B' horror movies with your little cousin. I was renting those movies when I was the kids age. Also have 2 kids so not a childless person commenting. I wouldn't watch Army of Darkness around my 3 year old but at 13? Dang I watched People Under the Stairs with my parents (bad idea as this movie freaked me out for a bit) by that point.

It's not your child so I think maybe a little bit of discretion is warrented when it comes to letting them watch a movie (especially one with a somewhat graphic rape scene) without even consulting the parent(s) first. Im nowhere near that age but even now that scene kinda disturbs me. Also multiple people in this thread are still children themselves yet they're giving advice which I find amusing

I'd say watching stuff like Alien, Jaws, Terminator, Bad Taste, Evil Dead, Amityville Horror and stuff like that as a kid in the 80's and early 90's - and I mean as a kid, not a teen - has, in hindsight, had a positive effect on my imagination. At the time, though, they did give the nightmares as expected and if I had a kid, I obviously wouldn't on purpose subject him/her to stuff like that (unless I knew s/he'd know how to handle it).

Ha. We seem to have a very similiar past in that regard. I also loved Cousteau's TV documentaries and rented a lot books about fish and marinelife as a kid (and am still interested in that stuff), drew sharks all over the place and made them out of playdough and all kinds of stuff like that. And Jaws was indeed my favorite movie back then even if after seeing it (when I was about 5) I was scared to go swimming for a while (yeah, that happened...) -- the sequels I liked too (even 4), though as time has passed on 2 is somewhat watchable of them anymore (3 and 4 are just campy crud).

Haha, I love the Toxic Avenger films. Weirdly enough, I discovered Toxic Avenger through the toys, which I had several of when I was like 8 or 9. Still puzzles me that they tried marketing the franchise to kids through toys...

Anyway, those films you mentioned aren't even proper horror or gore movies. They're comedies. Can't see much harm in a 13 year old viewing them. If you had picked Cannibal Holocaust, A Serbian Film or something like that, then his mom would be right to be upset I suppose. But still, he's 13. His "innocence" is about to be ruined in all sorts of ways. And he's old enough to handle watching horror movies. My parents never really cared what I watched (or what games I played). The only times I can remember was when I was around 7 or so and they wouldn't let me see The Warriors, and a couple of years later Alien 3 (never mind that I had already seen Aliens, which we rented for family movie night iirc). On several occasions I stayed up late at night with my dad, watching horror movies that scared the shit out of me. Scenes from The Blob are still etched in my mind, and I think Fire In The Sky was what lead my to my life-long fear of (and fascination with) aliens. The scenes on the alien ship are still amongst the creepiest shit I've seen, and I've watched it several times as an adult. No matter, I turned out ok(-ish).

No, I mentioned people's lack of having kids themselves and thus no actual parental experience. Now I'm mentioning how some people ITT ARE kids. I highly recommend you try getting some better reading comprehension skills. As far as advice on giving advice, it might help to have more knowledge and experience on the subject than none at all.

Also about Alien, when I was about 13-15, I made a kind of pen-and-paper RPG based on Alien. I made the layout of Nostromo and the escape shuttle Ripley got on. Well it wasn't the exact same but similar. I stole the plot, so to speak. And I stole the plot from a lot of action movies for other RPG's I made, and some comics. Haven't drawn comics or made RPG's in years. Well, decades.
