Some of my earliest gore-scare experiences were Predator, Akira as mentioned in another thread, Total Recall (head explodes YAY!) and sure, these were shocking scenes, and my young and feeble mind needed a long time to fully process it, in particular Predator really threw me back with its violence. My mother probably wouldn't have let me watch it, but she's of the type who knew I'd come across such stuff sooner or later anyway. It's a part of growing up.

We also found porn, rain-soaked magazines hidden away in "caches" in the local woods, stuff like that. VHS era also meant many a dad hid away (poorly) German porns, with full bush and plumber storylines

And we played on the rails :D Really though, most kids will have the basic cognitive skill to move out of the way when the train approaches, but thinking back, we probably gave many a conductor a bit of a sweat :D

As a dad I can kinda understand the parents' concerns.
As a former child I'm more like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Combining these clashing viewpoints I can conclude that Ekke Ekke Ekke Ekke Ptang Zoo Boing!

It really depends on the kid as everyone matures at a different rate and assigning a specific numerical age is always going to be arbitrary. On the one hand, I'd think most kids by 13 largely know the difference between fiction and reality, but on the other there are adults who seem to struggle with this...

I'm just wondering why Muggyman's cousin told his mom what he watched as I assume he knew how she'd react from experience. Don't blame him though; she probably has lie-detecting super powers that some parents seem to have. Ultimately the best move is to probably apologize to the mom and then not expose the kid to anything "objectionable" again for awhile. Since the kid isn't yours it is best to respect their parent's wishes, as stupid and overblown as they may be.

Meh, I am working with 11 and 12 year old children. You would be surprised about the things they already know and seen ...

Well, just today two of them discussed for 10 min. how a certain pokemon looks like a penis, and one of them said, it is a Penis Pokemon, and repeated that line constantly till I told him to stop.

Well Combusken does look like a penis with arms and legs, And he is a rooster so....

I was 9 when I first saw porn (via classmates obssesing with the stuff) I was a late bloomer so it did nothing for me until I was 13. So I always think people are waaaaay too naive with what they think kids know. It's specially hilarious when people say shit like "Kids never lie".

Which is pretty much within the first week of their life.
Fucking babies, they're the perfect demagogues and populists.
