fallout 2 killaps patch "A" problem

i installed this patch and have been encountering lots of probs. first of all on the world map im moving as fast as i would if i were using a car. when i go into combat the game kinda lags a little bit more then usual. when i tried to fight the dunton brothers in their house the game froze completely. my pip says that ive cleared out the mines and completed the widow rooney quest, but ive never even been to redding. im experiencing all types of problems and im assuming it due to the patch. i havent even experienced a any of the supposed fixes that this claims to do. is there some way i couldnt have installed it correctly? i dont really see how thats possible. it either would be installed or not. not half done. any advice?is this patch not as good as it claims?

Sigh...

Did you read the text file that comes with the patch.

Since you say you are seeing entries in the pip boy, I assume your game already comes with the official 1.02 patch. Check your Fallout 2 directory and see if a file patch000.dat exists. If it does, delete it and reinstall version A of my patch. Actually at this point, I suggest a full reinstall of the game, delete the patch000.dat, and install version A of my patch.

My patch comes with an improved world map file so the map should move much slower. Are you running a quad Xeon system or something?

I installed f2 UK 1.0 and patched it with 1.02 UK. Then patched it with killap's B, but there were no children. So i got these instructions for this. But i don't understand those. No children appeared. They say that "The CRITTER.DAT gets patched now, the original file gets renamed to CRITTER.OLD" Which CRITTER.DAT gets patched? Do i have to leave the "patch" folder on my desktop?

So i installed 1.0 UK F2, then 1.02 UK patch for it, then killap's B and finally, the children patch.

Everything else looks fine, but in my pip-boy, theres 2 quests from REDDING done, and i haven't even been to klamath yet. Is this some bug? How can i fix it?

Children?

I was wondering why killap's patch(es) don't include putting the children to F2? For that i need to use the children patch.

It's quite simple: the US version is the official version and also the best one. The UK and especially the German versions are awful but not that common so why support them if there are specific patches for them?

Btw.: I've added some note how to install the FIFE children patch. Everybody who tried it since yet was aware that you need to copy the patched CRITTER.DAT back to your Fallout folder later, overwriting the old unpatched CRITTER.DAT. I've added the information so nobody get's confused and forgets this step:

Using the childrens patch with my patch will work. I don't include it since missing children is not a bug so no need to "fix" it.

Your problem is that you installed the 1.02 patch which comes with a patch000.dat. If you read the readme file that comes with my patch you would see what to do in this case.... Since you are using the UK version, just install a fresh version of the game (1.0) and then install version A of my patch. Next, install the childrens patch. Finally, download the official 1.02 UK version of the patch BUT only copy over the .exe file that comes with it. NOTHING MORE. That's it.

Sorry but why he'll need to use the FO 1.02 UK .exe? Will give the US 1.02 any bluescreens or what's the problem?

Umm...well, honesty I am not 100% sure. I could swear I remember a guy a while ago complaining that the game would always crash after he used my patch. The problem was he was using the US exe with a non US game. Just to be on the safe side I recommend using the .exe that was designed for the localized version the user is using. It probably doesn't really matter though (in most cases at least)

On another note, I am getting a bit tired with the same questions of (pip boy entries popping up from Redding, etc) Should I start using dat files rather than have everything extracted? I have stayed away from this since a) it is easier to add new files this way and b) I am unsure of stability. I remember Seraph having trouble with the .dat file version of his patch. Anyone have any suggestions/thoughts on this?

Seems the best option for me :-) This way you just need to offer one version of the patch (or did I get something wrong?).

The only problem I can see arise is that some FO modders stated that the .dat tools sometimes create non-workling dat archives. But I guess this can be easily tested and AFAIR there is even a dat fixing tool to test the archive integraty. So .dat all the way IMHO :-)

Well, everything is running smoothly now. killap's A works nicely and i'm not experiencing any bugs, bluescreens or game crashes. No need to use 1.02 UK exe 8)

Sounds good. Post again if you encounter something new.

Valerie has lines in her dialogue file for the Val/Vic conversation when you are stupid. As far as I can tell, though, stupid characters can't start the conversation -- there's a gibberish line that just closes dialogue. I only tested this with a smart character and Psycho, though, so maybe a truly stupid character would work differently.

There's an annoying bug with Marcus where he looks like he has a weapon equipped, but his combat preferences show that he doesn't. In this state he'll do nothing in combat but punch. I think this is triggered when he punches an enemy because he doesn't have enough AP to shoot. He'll equip his Bozar if I tell him to, but I usually don't notice the problem until combat has already started. I haven't noticed this problem with anyone else, so I'm hoping this is just a glitch in his script and not yet another engine bug. On a possibly related note, sometimes Vic will unequip and reequip his weapon for no particular reason before attacking. He uses a Gauss Rifle but still has his old Red Ryder LE BB gun in his inventory.

Using the Jet antidote while addicted but before the cravings (and stat penalties) hit permanently ups your ST, PE, and AP. I know the code for addiction removal assumes you're quitting cold turkey, which is why it malfunctions if you use the antidote too soon. Would it be possible for the antidote script itself to check the state of your addiction and adjust your stats accordingly?

I've got a saved game here where Jet acts very oddly. Take off the armor (and drop it so you're not overweight), drink some alcohol to lower your PE, and take some Jet. You'll get +2 ST and PE and +3 AP with each dose, and the message window says "You feel better.". I haven't noticed this bug anywhere else.

Thanks again for all the work you're doing. I've recommended this game to several of my friends, but they all complain about the bugs.

I shall take a gander.

Sounds like an engine issue. All combat stuff is done through the engine so there really isn't anything I could do through scripts.

Jet antidote is hardcoded. There are so many bugs with it that I wish I could fix but alas, I cannot.

Hmmm...sounds odd. I will investigate but I cannot promise too much here.

Too buggy EVEN with my patch? Hmmm...I gotta disagree there. :D

Not sure if this is a bug, but it is what i discovered a little odd. In Den, when you help that girl's gang (don't remember her name) to fight vs tyler's gang in the church-full-of-crates, there was only tyler + 2 other members of his gang present in that fight, and it was quite easy task to kill em.

I'm remembering, that i've fought always before vs atleast 5 members of tylers gang + tyler.

On the daylight, before the fight (when i was doing the quest to 'find weakness'), there were more members of his gang inside the church.

A bug, random occasion or even an include of killap's patch?

They're out at a party, remember?

Something is annoying me a little bit:
Vault City Courtyard, after i recruit Cassidy,in the bar is nobody, but the floating text is still appearing.

A little sugestion:
In Klamath, Dountons brothers expose bug(i don't know if it a bug, but they can't be expose, i think).

BTW, thanks for this great patch.
