Here`s something a bit more alarming...

I just tested some things and the problem is that you are an enemy of Gecko. Any idea how this might have happened?

hmmm...Well I did waste that big rat down in the "sewers", Brain was it? I didnt like his world domination plans so I gave him a few well aimed head shots.

What about the car running out of fuel?

That would be it then. If you kill him all of Gecko goes hostile. Original devs intent I guess.

Well I added a line of code that would display that message when your car runs out of fuel. There is no reason why it would display when it does in your case. I noticed, however, that it would never display when I would run out of gas with the car anyway. In fact, it would NEVER display for me in any case. Everything seems to make sense in the script though... In any case, I have chosen to just remove that line. Here is a new script file for the car: car fix

Patch files are already updated and reuploaded. Damn, so many minor issues popping up. I guess that is what happens when I claim I am done patching the game.

Ok thanks for clearing up that rat killing thing. Guess he`ll live in the next playthrough. *installs fix*

Well, he'll need to if you want to "successfully" play through my up-and-coming expansion pack. *hint* *hint* :D

just curious..... but is the "too many items glitch" one of the engine bugs you can't fix without the source?

Yep.

I have a weird experience about this: The past month I've replayed FO2, and by the time I was in NCR/SF, of course: The notorious black box appeared.

However, this had no influence on my game at all, except for the skilldex not being accessible. Not that I use it thoug, the numbers on my keyboard work fine :)

In my earlier post I said I used "a fix", and did not know wich one. Well, I looked it up: killap's Fallout 1.02+ US Only Patch - Version B.

Reading through it's notes, I realized why I couldn't find the Phazer in Per's guide: It wasn't in the original game!

Comparing my current playing experience to the original one, reading about the weird possible situations in Per's guide (remember the Dave Handy / Badger / Shi / Hubo / BOS fuel mess?), it's really impressive. Fallout has been made complete.

Killap, wear your signature proudly, Per, thanks for giving me the opportunity to read about everything, and both of you for making Fallout from a rough diamond into a freshly polished one!!!

And of course, not forgetting the huge intellectual and testing help from this fine community :)

I found an odd quirk, nothing big but something you may want to know:

I had an encounter with a group of trappers and some Gold Geckos. Every time I would fire at either the trappers or the geckos, no matter what, even when there wasn't any geckos left, it would say "Ooops, you hit the Gecko instead of the *insert gecko or trapper*".

Strange, but not crippling in the least.

Allan.

I think on those occasions a corpse is hit. Not sure though... just the way I see it.
And, sometimes corpses provide cover so it would be logical that they are hit, thus providing the information on the message box.
The cover effect can clearly be seen especially if fighting big monsters like Molerats and Radscorpions in the form of reduced % to hit.

Killap they should hire you for QC on Fallout 3 :)

I am going to replay fallout 2 yet again now with your patch.

Quick question and if this has been answered in the previous 90+ pages forgive me: Has the Optimize the Gecko Plant ending been corrected so that you can get the "best ending" for Vault City and Gecko or is this buried in the source code and as such unfixble without access to said code?

Heh. That would be cool. 8)

Such questions should be answerable by looking through the corrections list of my patch. But yes, it is now possible to obtain the "best ending" for Gecko by using my patch.

Sorry to say again man, but another rather crippling bug has appeared.

I just reached Vault City and got the same error as I had upon attempting to enter Trapper Town. Black screen, error sound, had to task manage my way out of Fallout.

Is it possible that it's just me? Everything else up until now (with the exception of the Klamath bug) has been great.

I have same problem too, when entering Vault City.
I also got Application error C:\...\fallout2.exe

Other than that everthing has work nicelly.

Bah, that doesn't make sense since I SWEAR I went there on my test run. Either way, I looked at a possible scenery object that could have been causing the problem and indeed there was a problem. Here is a fix. Just extract this file and copy the new map file to your Fallout 2 maps directory.

Vault City map fix

Let me know if this fixes it.

EDIT:

Full patches updated so grab the latest patch if you haven't installed it yet or just grab the map fix above if you are already using the latest patch.

Hi Killap,

Just want to confirm whether downloading one of the full patches does include the latest map fixes or if they must be downloaded separately and added in.

Thanks for all the effort!

So yes, that should be updated. Both NMA links and the ones found in my sig.

Hey Killap, great work on your patch. I would have gotten this to you sooner, but I've been busy with summer school :/

My FO2 crashes upon entering the Ghost Farm.

Info, although you can just read it from the Pipboy - Went to farm, found Jonny, solved the trade agreement with Modoc. Now all that's left is to pick up Jonny, however upon entering the farm it crashes right after hearing the thunder (or whatever sound that is).

I don't believe it's a driver issue as I could navigate the farm, and every other location, without crashing (even Vault City, without the latest patch.) Now sure how this works, do I email you my save slot? (Made it #9)

Hmm...yeah, send me the save game. (use the address in the readme) Doesn't sound like a map issue since you say you have already been to the farm. Which version of the patch and what release? (ie what day does the corrections.txt say it was last updated)

Let me know if you received it, Verizon is acting up and no copy of the email is showing in my Sent folder - I can send from my yahoo account no problem.

Without a doubt it's that one, never had FO2 installed until last week.

Got it. Yeah, I go to the farm and the game freezes. (no crash like happens when the map is corrupt) Seems like some script is exploding. Interesting. Can you tell me the exact steps you made at Modoc and the farm before encountering this?

Dang, well I'll try hard to remember...

First I should mention, ignore Vault City and Gecko, after finding the crash bug I just plowed ahead. Meaning, I played the game in the correct order. Arroyo => Klammath => Toxic Caves => Den => Modoc => Ghost farm.

1. Got to Modoc, picked up Investigate Ghost Farm quest.
2. Then picked up Guard Grisham's Brahmin quest and completed it.
3. Picked up Cornelius's Gold watch quest and Jonny is missing quest - then headed to Ghost farm.
4. edit: Arrived and captured by armed guards (not sure day or night), spoke to what's his name, agreed. Ran north, saw Jonny, then headed back to Modoc.
5. Delivered message from Slags, mentioned I saw Karl in the Den.
6. Picked up and attempted Farrel's rodent farm. *NOTE BELOW* 7. Completed Cornelius's Gold watch quest.
8. Decided to go to Ghost Farm. Freezes (you're right, not crashes). Went back to Den, told Karl to come back, then went to Vault City, then Gecko.

Before I forgot, killed all rodents in Farrel's farm, he doesn't reward / Pipboy doesn't update. I *think* I got the quest experience immediately after killing the last rodent though.

I believe this was in the right order.
