Bethesda vs Interplay on Fallout Online

Clunky? I feel that the Fallout 2 interface is the closest to interface perfection one can get. Every information accessible through just two or three clicks.

Two or three clicks? Don't tell me you never had to click through the whole damn unsortable inventory.

You mean two hundred clicks for followers inventory and combat control right?

But yeah Interplay > Bethesda.

God if this goes though I hope they do something to fix the inventory.

What I believe would work fairly well for a interface is using the concept for FO1/FO2 but having it compressed some (for example shrinking hands 1/2) then to move some of the buttons to make the interface smaller vertically. Possibly throw in some quick slots for keys 1-9 or something like that.

The chat interface would already be there I'm sure they would just tack it onto the spot that listed damage and of the sort.

It is possible to do a great fallout MMO, but it wouldn't be one for the masses but MMO's only work for masses, there's the problem.

do you have ever heard of eve online?

can you give another example? preferable of more recent game not one which was created almost 10 years old when there was less competition and managed to get a nice core followers?

and one where the average player age wont be 27, unless you really believe that beth will make a game for us or that inter will, because even if inter will really want to, they will still find no investors. (because even basic indie games for 1$ profit a piece will be a better investment than that...)

besides if you abstract it EVE online gameplay is just the same as many other MMORPG and no its nothing like FO1/2 nor its FO1/2 with MP.

btw after 6 or so expansions they also got a WOW like interface ...

your post illustrates just fine why many of the "big" mmorpgs have failed in the past serveral years.

i think its called hard cold reality...

p.s. all those "failed" RPGS still got more revenue than eve
eve gathered 300k subscribers in the last 6 years (i believe that mostly its community related, you know like minded people) in comparison WOW manged that in 4 month.

I have played both Eve and WOW...and tried alot of other MMOs. If they make it like eve they will lose a lot of possible subscribers...people dont want to spend alot of time on a character and have to start over when it dies. Not as big a deal in a single player game cause u can just save your game and keep trying over and over til you get it.
However...if they make a wow clone....they wont keep many subscribers. Because people arent going to leave wow to start a new game thats the same thing.... AND ANY mmo is going to be competing with WOW.
Interplay needs to make a truly unique game using the fallout universe. It needs to walk the fine line between WoW and Eve, AND fallout.
TBH they arent goin to be dethroning wow as MMO king. But they need to steal enough subscribers from, after all they are willing to drop the monthly fee every month, to make money.
Will it be a good fallout game? only time will tell

I think if there's any MMO path the Fallout MMO should be following it has to be the pre-ngu Star Wars Galaxies path, sandbox, skill-level system vast, empty, but realistic worlds and hubs where all gather to group up to get on hunting trails and so on.

better Pipboy

I'd be pretty unrealistic if they gave the player a Pip-Boy in the MMO. There are very few of those in the universe and hundreds of people couldn't be runnin' around with 'em.

you forget its wont be FO1/2 , MMO will bring ton of other interfaces like chat, friend list, trade system, quest list, bla bla bla ...
most areas will inherently be bigger so they may stick a map there, load of stats, better Pipboy etc etc etc etc

this why basically every MMORPG i know of, use very similar to wow system.

yea, but in true blizzard fashion, they stole a lot of their elements from other games.

their interface in wow is a merging of DAOC and UO

but less info

every MMO is unrealistic, you know thousands of guys who are all the hero who saves the world and doing the same exact quest

i meant, MMO especially a low budget one will have hundred of stupid fedex missions add to that hundred of new creatures objects etc you'll need to have a better pipboy interface with at least some kind of filter functionality...

i may be wrong but from what i seen FOnline: 2238 is no MMORPG at best its a FO MP (did they ever had concurrent 500 players?)
and again if anyone looks at this a model for future beth/inter release he is deluded.

edit: on separate note, i think i'll recheck FOnline: 2238 its looks like it made a lot of progress from last time i seen it.

they all steal, but only some manage to make something out of it.
and with all do respect they made WOW to a phenomena its the MMORPG who managed to keep their subscriptions rate up for the last 6 years!

while aion, liniage, runscape, age of conan, warhammer, final fanstasy, ever quest all failing ...

What? FOnline, no MMO? Explain please.

And yes, we got 500+ players already on spike-times. Not bad for a non-commercial MMO, based on a 10+ years old game, with absolutly no nub protection in the game.

Well, 500 is not massive in my opinion, but that does not mean that FO is worse just because it's no MMO in my eyes, its a Multiplayer RPG and as said should work better than a real FO MMO.

"Starting zones" == the one single instanced start map, which you have exit after 2 minutes?

"guards" == The ones that get killed very easy by not even 5 players?

Get real. Calling this nub protection... well.
