Contest, previews and screenshots

It's just a quirk of mine, but I really don't like the look of a lot of modern military weapons.

Too much colored plastic.

That and it's kind of lazy when you just use real world guns and change the names to get around copyrights.

Hm. Ever since Fallout was bought by Bethesda it began to swarm with fatmans, next-gen laser guns and what not. I'm just saying that as long as the game will get more sequels the developers aren't going to stop bringing in flashy weapons and etc. The best option would be the game to be brought to it's classical state, but everyone knows that's not possible. Personally I think that if I can cope with trying out the next fallout sequel I can cope with not being that angry at a gun that's out of it's place.

With New Vegas ahead, there will be room for much worse, I pray for modern weapons to be the only flaw, actually.

Weapon technology progressed after the 50's in Fallout. It's not too far fetched to think they'd make some modern type regular firearms since they made energy weapons.

They still wouldn't (at least they SHOULDN'T) have the means to make 'em just like the modern weapons. For a 'modern' Fallout weapon they might want to develop some 50s-60s weapons further, keeping in mind the retro-futuristic tech possibilities

I always like to explain it on the assault rifle: Instead of a AK-47, Fallout 1 / 2 have the AK-112. It's an AK rifle and it looks similar, but it's not a 47 model.

Or the combat shotgun, to go with another example, which is... well, a combat shotgun, but it doesn't look like shotguns we use "in our time". It looks how it might have evolved in the Fallout universe and so on and so on. That's in my opinion how the spirit of fallouty weapons should have continued and not beginning to add real life weapons in a 1:1 fashion. That's just not cool mh'kay. But yeah, it's too late now. Too many Fallout games didn't cared about it already, including some of the new weapons in Fallout 2.

I find that 'modern' weapons are more of a problem due to materials availability. It's a post apocalyptic environment where quality metals are rare(?). Plastics won't be available so any "new" weapon (gadget) will be of reused metal and wood. This varmint rifle is very prestine looking but doesn't look to be made of metal & wood. Seems out of place.

First time I notice that the gecko licks it's paw with a long, pink tongue :D

Sure that's a fire gecko ? How would you know - it's in Japanese !
Reminds me. Need to ask around the Bethsoft forums to find someone to translate that Japanese preview.

The text in the screen is : ファイヤーグッコー = Faiyagukko

In decomposing,

- ファイヤ (faiya) = fire
- グッコ (gukko) = gecko

So yes, unfortunately it's the fire gecko :(

No New Vegas info on the podcast, though there surely will be for the next one since they'll have Jason Bergman as a guest again and are asking for questions for him.

I wonder if the Fatman will be renamed again in the Japanese version?

They removed the Fatman from the Japanese version in FO3, probably the same deal in NV.

They didn't take it out, they just changed the name from "Fatman" to "Nuka Launcher", for obvious reasons. And yes, chances are, they will do the name change again.

They shouldn't even put it in the game. It was only useful against the Behemoth thingies, and I sure hope that those things aren't in the game.

Five screenshots: one looks nice (old man), one is meh (FO3's orc-mutant) and 3 are complete crap: indoors one (what is this? is this fallout?), gecko one (nice gecko, horribly unfitting gun), romans one (self-explanatory). So far, not liking the visuals/atmosphere of this thing at all.

I somehow hate the interior modelings. It makes the houses feel like sealed shoeboxes. Since there are no windows and so on.

Okay, the mutant looks stupid. No improvements there. And the physics seem to be still from outer space. Also, the same old guy from Fo3 and those sunglasses. And the Modern warfare gun. Please...

Since its a Fallout, Im going to give it a try. Alltought i know its going to make me cut my wirsts.
