Fallout: New Vegas stuff

A Pip-Boy made of gold with emeralds for buttons...?

Solid gold? Would be fun to see someone wear it and spend a few hours trying to lift it up off the floor.

-It's possible to obtain a "blinged out Pip-Boy model" called the Pip-Boy 3 Billion

*face palm*

-The interviewer mentions to Larry that some players felt overwhelmed by Fallout 3 and want the game to be more accessible

Really? Overwhelmed by Fallout 3? Is that even possible?

Jesus. Radios are back. Fuck it.
Blinged out pip-boy? What the should that mean?
and references to Fallout 3...

Well, it could've been worse. Could it?

You know, of all the things FO3 Added those are something i didn't mind. Aside from Three dog being annoying occasionally it makes sense to have radio integration into a device like that.

The biggest problem with the radios in Fallout 3 was for me, that it all made no sense. I mean... if there is a radiostation that can send over such a big area, wouldn't communities start to use it to somehow work together? How it worked in Fallout 3 was like "hey, we have super cool technology here to broadcast messages over many miles! Let's use it to play music and talking bullshit!"

They tried to make it so Three Dog would do PSAs to help out Wastelanders, but really all he said was Brotherhood of Steel propaganda, stay away from D.C., make sure to use a Geiger counter, and stay away from Evergreen Mills. Nothing really important.

This is an entirely accurate assessment. In reality, if a radio station were functional and broadcasting in a post-apocalyptic setting, the chances are that the stabilized factions would be interested in making it their own resource. Instead, in Fallout 3, there is an intellectually devoid, giant supermutant trying to destroy it. That doesn't really make any sense, I would figure that the Brotherhood Paladins trying to "protect" it would be like "Hey, stop playing music from the fifties and dicking around so we can reorganize the area."

But I guess that makes as much sense as having an industrial neon-sign manufacturing plant still developing the New Vegas skyline after the bombs.

House: "Oh, I just won Vault 21 in a game of craps. My business model suggests that it should be turned into another casino/source of revenue for me and my organization. I better get a multi-story neon sign for it, better just outsource it to... Wait a minute..."

Nitpicky NMA strikes again! What's your problem with a minor, cool little detail? There were thinks like this in the original Fallout too.

Individually, sure, but detail by detail by detail combined make for a swarm of crap. Also, (assuming you're meaning that bling pip-boy stuff) it's not cool.

I'm starting to think that the thirteen-year-old me who got Fallout for Christmas was the only person to think that the story was plausible. I mean, sure, there's a bunch of stuff that's just ridiculous, but the first two games were never like "Hey! Here's Bob's Pre-Owned Car Mart and a BB Gun from a cult christmas movie! This is all for realz!"

Fallout 3 and New Vegas are trying to make things that are supposed to be ridiculous into digestible material. It's like taking the giant footprint from the first game, putting it into a little pill, and then giving it to the masses of video gamers who will literally swallow this garbage.

It's not nitpicking, it's more a wtf moment. We wouldn't be nitpicking if there weren't so many moments during the recent games when you're just like "Why is this even happening? Who wrote this story and why?"

Jeez guys, it's just a "blinged out" Pip-boy. You act like there's never been anything even slightly stupid in a Fallout game before Fallout 3. Look at the LE BB Gun, capable of splitting armoured Super Mutants in half with one pellet.

My problem with it is it's called the "Pip Boy 3 Billion" What. The. Fuck. Better writers pl0x? Obsidian can write, so I have little doubt this was a Bethsoft idea. If it wasn't... SHAME ON YOU OBSIDIAN!

Oh i agree, but its not the radio's that were at fault there. To me, having a Radio transmitter/receiver on a pipboy is a good idea.

The flaw is how it was implemented.

Somehow I don't remind myself anything more or less facepalm worthy in FO1, like this silly Pip-Boy idea in NV.

This was only in FO2 which well is made basically by the same devs, so probably there will be more *jokes* like that.

There's also a preview at CVG we didn't cover, but it has no hands-on and nothing new except that the previewer is sure glad Fallout hasn't changed except it now has cactuses gzomg! And amazingly the war "didn't blacken the sky" on the West Coast because it wasn't as badly hit and 200 YEARS MOTHERFUCKER.

No, see: the problem is that this is apparently big enough news to have slipped through to the reporters. The special encounters in the old games were just side stuff, obviously intended as a joke (although I still don't like them), but this is already something newsworthy: "Hey, there's gonna be a PipBoy in there, all bling-bling and all." What? Fuck you. Get over the "we need to focus on all the pesky little details that made the old games funny" 'cause "funny" ain't gonna work here.

[Look at the LE BB Gun, capable of splitting armoured Super Mutants in half with one pellet.
That's a nice little postmodern reference to "A Christmas Story". "You'll shoot your eye out, kid."

The LE BB gun was in Shady Sands if you killed some children.
