The Catholic Church disapproves of the annual ritual of devotion but says it cannot stop people in Asia's largest Roman Catholic country from being voluntarily nailed to a cross or flagellating themselves, only educate them that it isn't necessary.

"When they put the nails in my palm, that's very painful," said the 49-year-old before his crucifixion. Nails are also driven through his feet.

What the hell year do we live in? Can't people just read the Bible and/or go to church?

No one dies from the crucifixions... To the Filipinos it is a religious experience to be crucified, like fasting or baptism; it's nothing new.

to experience the martyrdom of a holy person is nothing new in a relgion and is not specificaly tied to christanity or any other religion. There is a day in Islam where they celebrate the route of a holy person and would start to cut them self heavily since he died in a very cruelsome way for the Islam.

Not that this would make it much more sane. Just means its present in many religions.

Yeah. Crucifixion was also used as a form of torture, not just execution. Still, why people feel the need to force this "connection" is beyond me.

Seeing how torture device-based religions are so popular, let's start a religion focused on the ELECTRIC CHAIR.

Bonus: religious nutjobs wanting to experience the HOLY CHAIR OF SPARKS will be removed from society permanently and painfully!

Whats the name of this religion's god? Zeus? Super Shock?
It must be really awesome to create a religion. I really wish I could be at the First Council of Nicaea

The problem, Tagaziel, would be that the majority would just PRETEND to be electrocuted in order to not stand out.

Pretty much like various facets of society work, if I may remark.

Why does that sound like the premise of a great B post apocalyptic movie.

I think the bigger question is:

Why is the country spelled Philippines, but the people Filipinos?

Shut the fuck up and stop asking stupid questions! :hide:

You are right about that. Some believes that if they do "something" that could hurt them physically, or that is similar to what had happened to God during his stay here, it could get rid of their sins.

Take a look at this one:

For some, it is a way of showing how they love God and that they are willing to undergo the pains that he had gone through...ouch! 8-)

well I cant say that its a healthy thing or that I personaly dont find it crazy. But I always have the idea that if people want to do it ... why not. I mean if others move to a abbey, enjoy living along in the woods or want to live a life of Asceticism to get close to Buddha and others want to simulate some kind of martyrdom cause they think its needed for their soul so be it. As long they decide that by them self. I even respect it in some way. Its a experience afterall even if it looks to me pretty crazy and painfull.

But to be honest I enjoy the ideas of Buddhism here a lot more. Never to engange in extremes and always trying to find with everything the midle.
