FOnline 2238 goes 2.5D with Van Buren Assets

If the backside exists too as graphic, it would be possible to include that whole fat building into the game with the FOnline engine and you wouldn't need more like approx 10 tiles. :)

A good value for maximum tile size in the FOnline engine is approx 500x500px. But this is not really the maximum, it's just for loading speed and graphic cache, etc.

I love it. Does this mean we'll be seeing Van Buren stuff in future single-player FO/FO2 mods as well?

I first had my doubts if these 3D models fit into Fallout 2 graphics, but when he put that 3D guy in it, it blew me away.

Beautiful models and they really fit in.

This looks awesome!

But what's up with the copyright things? I don't own Van Buren.

What really would be extremely nice is Linux support. With that and open sourcecode this will be playable on every device, instead of only being playable on huge Windows machines.

You got +1 Coin.

This is crazy. Those guys are hardcore...
By the end of this year, they will announce a Fallout 3 MMO mod...

As regards copyright...:

Technically, you didn't have to own Fallout Tactics either to see some of the FO:T art used in FOnline...It was borderline copyright-infringement from the beginning.

Wasn't it ?

Okay okay BN, I overreacted, and I apologize for it.

But I do find it rather low that there are people on the forum who would immediately run to Bethesda Zenimax to warn them of possible copyright violations.

It is not as if the FOnline team is cutting in on their business.

And who the hell said that they'd warn Bethesda of copyright violations?

Hi, I'm one of devs.

With the latest versions of WINE, the client seems to be working perfectly, although native linux support will probably not happen anytime soon, it's comforting to know that some people are already running it in linux, and indeed has been for quite some time.

Perhaps I put it to strong.
More like telling Bethesda to check out articles on places such as NMA and DaC that involve content not released by Bethesda.

I sometimes feel that since Bethesda bought the rights to Fallout that they are acting like a police agent, wanting to guard it from anything they might feel like an infringement that could potentially cost them money.

As copyright holders that is their right of course, but other developers in the past have shown some leniency in the rules, not to strictly enforce them in such cases were it really didn't hurt their business.

What the fuck are you on about again? No one is telling Bethesda to check it out. They do it themselves anyway. They probably learned about Brian Menze's Vault Boy auction and the Childkiller pic from places like NMA, The Vault or DAC and took these down.

About Bethesda people checking out NMA, why not. We are checking out a lot stuff too... everyone. So if something is interesting to read, it will attract people.

To get a lil bit back to topic... Deathclaw attack! :>

Super cool! I almost feel like watching screenshot from new game! :D Also, are the characters antialiased? Both inner and outer?

Okay, I got the impression that there were people on the board who would always inform Zenimax Bethesda the moment that an article or news post was made involving a product/mod that uses Fallout 1/2/3/other assets that are technically the copy right of Zenimax Bethesda.

Products like for example Foline.

And that Bethesda in general tries to shut these projects down because these use their intellectual properties, and are consider possible 'threats' to their franchise, like for example the old Glutton Creeper D20 game, though of course a lot more went behind that.

Of course people from Zenimax Bethesda most likely monitor Fallout sites such as NMA themselves.

Its gives a feeling that every time a fan or group of fans wants to show their project to gain interest from other fans, that they risk being send a Seize and Desist order from Zenimax Bethesda to make clear how strictly they enforce their copyright protection, and that there is extreme limited room for leniency towards fans who would like to use Fallout material just because they really like it.

On my screenshots, I have multisampling on "4". You can still higher it a bit or deactivate it fully, if someone doesn't like it. The antialising works on the inside and outside. To get a more fallouty feeling, I would like to deactivate it on the outlines, but as far as I could understand our main programmers, it isn't really (yet?) possible. But it still looks good anyway, so I don't have much problems with it.

Hope it's going to be done as an option (if true past kvlt then disable, if true next kvlt then enable ;)). I want damn antialiasing everywhere! :P

Here's a thought, are 3D models the only 3D element you're interested in? Or are there plans in the distant, distant future to maybe Van Burenise the maps too?

Obviously, that's way off in the future - having to 3D every single map in Fallout 1/2 would be a mammoth task (and the resources may not even exist), and maybe not even worth the amount of work it would take, but I'm curious anyway.

I wasn't sure they'd fit transplanted across games, but at that distance and that perspective I don't think there's a clash in art styles.

Now, if only the designers of the Fo1 section would stop being boneheads and keeping the Fo1 city layouts, NPCs and the Cathedral with the Master intact, I'd be a very happy kitten.
