Games like Fallout

skullmonkey

First time out of the vault
Fallout was the best and I think the last game that I got "junked" on :D Is there any other games to suggest that are like Fallout? (except Neverwinter Nights, Baldurs Gate series, Acranum)

Best regards,
skull

Temple Of Elemental Evil is probably the closest you can get, although unfortunately it's pretty sparse on dialogue. There are a bunch of games that give a similar feel to the combat in Fallout, unfortunately there aren't any that come close to the total package.

Wow, I didn't think ToEE came close at all. Combat was better than Arcanum, but the rest just wasn't.

Closest is Arcanum, but you already played that, apparently.

You might like and enjoy these games (they're not like Fallout, but they do have some similar qualities): Wasteland, X-Com games, Jagged Alliance games, Silent Storm.

ToEE: good combat, bad story
Arcanum: bad combat (from a tactical point of view), good story

That's what I meant - the combat and the game in general has a very similar feel to Fallout, but it's really short on the role-play aspect. As far as current rpg's go it's the closest to Fallout that there is, and there is more of an rpg element than Silent Storm or games like that even though it's pretty minor.

That's right!
I QUITE agree with you
But in my country, there is no Arcanum now, and I cannot find it anywhere, except the one my friend had bought long ago.

baldur's gate is a completely diferent genre, but is the closest you will get to the quality of fallout and you will feel right at home with the combat which is very similar to fallout (just think of it as real time fallout combat with some added tricks).

I hope to never have to read anything so utterly devoid of intelligence as that, EVER AGAIN.

What bullshit.
Baldur's Gate is of the same genre as Fallout (CRPG), is nowhere near the quality of Fallout as a roleplaying game, the combat is completely and utterly different, since it's real time with pausing instead of turn based, furthermore it's a fantasy setting meaning that everything pertaining to combat is completely different since you have no guns, but you do have magic.

In any case, if you liked Fallout, you will like Planescape: Torment. Play it.

LOL, since when Chinese buy games? They actually sell games in china for that matter?

Hehe, Arcanum sold in my country for about half year.
But I has no interested in it at that time, I am getting ready for the Colleage Entrance Exam... sigh
More and more Chinese are going to buy games, of course the authorized copy.

I've gotta tell the guys from the Trinity and Bourgeoisie projects:lol:

Trinity and Bourgeoisie are Polish Fallout-like fan projects; They're , of course, planning to make English versions to sell world-wide. If they'd make a Chinese (Mandarin) version, they could hit the Chinese market.

This is,well, rather a joke, because in Poland "Chinese" s a synonym for "uncomprehensible". (after all, evven the alphabet is hunndred times more complex) And I don't know anyone who could act as an interpreter. :(

As far as technical aspects, it's not really a CRPG. Aside from the speech system that was far inferior to that of Ultima 7 or Fallout (which isn't really a surprise it's similar but a pale shadow to Fallout's), Baldur's Gate plays more like an RTS.

You have equippable items and stats (no indication of a CRPG), D&D's character system (loosely, and still not indicative of the game being a CRPG), but the story is pretty linear, really the same every time, and the world feels dead. The environment is not that interactive, putting up yet another barrier to Baldur's Gate truly being considered as a CRPG. After all, the point of P&P RPGs is for interaction and choice in gameplay.

The implementation of their core rules took a back seat to poor technical aspects that still trouble BioWare's development, particularly in AI and pathfinding that makes Ian shooting you in the back seem like a mosquito bite. In fact, nearly everything in good taste was neglected in favor of Drizzt and having an uber paladin that could buy items cheap from the Thieve's Guild.

In any case, if you liked Fallout, you will like Planescape: Torment. Play it.

I would suggest that in terms of world construction, Ultima 6-7: SI (three games) have about the best examples. There's a certain degree of nonlinearity with those games as well. I would suggest the Ultima Collection, and you can use Exult or another utility to play Ultima 7 and SI in 98SE-XP, I think.

Indeed, it is very boring and linear compared to Fallout, although the interaction with party members added in Baldur's Gate 2 made up for something.
But I wouldn't go as far as to classify it as something else than a CRPG. It is, for me, a Role Playing Game, you get to play a role, one that you choose yourself, and interact with the world. While this is very limited, it still is the basis of any CRPG.

I must admit that I haven't played either of those games. Maybe I should go and try them...
