How did you discover Fallout ?

I saw FO2 in a magazine from 1998 in about 2001 it was given a rediculusly high reveiw, and it was realy cheap at the time (about £5) so i thought what could go wrong. It turned out to be the best game i had ever played and so far nothing else has come close.
 
I discovered Fallout 2 on a stone plinth at the end of an African cave system. After snatching a the disc and replacing it with a copy of C&C, I legged it out of the cave, pursued by a giant rolling Stone Head of the Vault Dweller.

Really, a friend of mine kept going on about it, I asked to borrow his copy, and then wondered where half of summer 2002 went. :wink:

Hey if you're here and enjoyed playing Fallout, I think you should also play Fallout 2.
Although most people here would disagree with me, I think Fallout 2 is the game that Fallout should have been (after patching it, of course). But then again, I first played Fallout 2 when it came out and I only finished Fallout a few months ago...
I guess the "ultimate" Fallout experience is to play Fallout and Fallout 2 back-to-back.


BTW: Isn't England supposed to be the USA 51st? Making Australia the 52nd? :lol:
 
Back when Fo1 was about to be released, a short demo came out and I spent pretty much a full 72 hours downloading and playing the crap out of it. Strangely I never got around buying due to still being an obsessive FPS-gamer. Fast forward a year and it's christmas time. I really wanted Half-Life and I spent weeks describing it's awesomeness to my mother. She got it for me, which of course made my day, but she also bought Fo2. I installed both games but started playing with HL. I really got into it and almost forgot about Fo2 until three days later and HL was completed. I started Fo2 and all the memories of the Fo1 demo came flooding back. I created a gun-wielding maniac named Gordon (!) and before I knew it I was a slaver with a big tattoo. Picked up Fo1 a couple of weeks later. Never looked back.

Me and two of my friends actually had a couple of LAN-parties where we just sat and played Fo1 & 2 in the same room. We loved Fallout for not forcing us to be THE hero, but instead letting us experience and engage the story and the world as we saw fit.
 
I THINK I got it along with a gaming magazine ages ago... So I installed it, tried it out a bit, couldn't figure it out, but I was intrigued by the setting. Kept playing, learned the ropes, loved it. Still playing a lot =) My Fallout love story?

I was walking through the supermarket asking myself what I should buy when this heavenly music came from the game shop yonder.....I was struck blind and wandered against my will to where fallout lay on the shelf an angel appeared to me and spoke "This is the game of god handed to his chosen to experience its divine awesomeness" Needless to say I become a pilgrim of the waste shortly after.

Ignore the Blasphemy please!
 
I was scouring the interwebs back in the dial-up days looking for new RPGs to play and I found wasteland and rumor of an upcoming spiritual successor. I thought wasteland was killer so I started lurking the fallout forum and waiting for the release.

Man that demo was kickass, I minigunned demotown down so many times that I never used big guns in either of the fallout games :)
 
Thanks to Briosafreak, I recently found my first source of the Fallout Universe: The Fallout Demo, a file "falldemo.exe", lost inside a PC Format CD with Demos.
I still have that CD, that was in my "dead archive" for future scrap... But now it's safe together with my original CD of Fallout :D

So, it's been more than 10 years since I first meet Fallout: April of 1998.
 
Well....

Around ten years ago my family bought the first computer and it came with a bundle of games (Just some crappy games that came with it) So one day, while I was alone I discovered Fallout. I installed it started playing. Killed by rat outside Vault 13. I vowed never to play it again (mind you I was only 5 at the time.) About 8 years later, I found it again I thought "I'm gonna play this" and thats how I discovered fallout.

I was at the mall with my parents when I persuaded them that Fallout was a smart purchase for me. I fell in love with it. Playing fallout on my Compaq Presario 425 (ext. cd-rom _hehe), while staying home from school was the best, childhood aspirations of making a game as well rounded and engrossing as FO. I think those were the days where you had to pay hourly for AOL, LOL!
 
I think I was 6 or 7 years old when we got this free sample of some PC magazine. With it there was a CD with two games: Fallout and some weird ****. It was full US version, not a demo. It was pretty cool to play the game when you didn't understand a word about it and you got beaten by the cave rats. Then the game was standing in my room until I was in fourth grade. We moved to new house and I saw the CD once again for years. I tryed it again, but ended up with selling the game to my friend ( which I bought back three years later when we moved to Jokela. After that I've been playing Fallout like a maniac, and I got Fallout 2 few days ago :) ).
 
Fallout Collection

Well my first exposure to Fallout was when I was fairly young (i.e. when the game came out). I was about 12 years old, and my 17 year old cousin had gotten the game. I saw him fairly frequently, but only once or twice did I get to watch him play Fallout. Even when I did it was not at great lengths at a time; he'd use a trainer to cheat and "show me how bad-ass his character was" So at most, somewhere in my mind the words Fallout-RPG-Good floated around together.

So askip forward 10 years.

I was walking around BestBuy with my friend Luis; his girlfriend was looking for a new mouse, and we were perusing the game aisles to see if there was anything decent sitting about. I turn the corner, and there was the Enclave staring me back in the face: The Fallout Collection - Fallout 1, Fallout 2, and Fallout 3 on one action-packed disc! Only $20.

Luis walked by and I grabbed him by the collar to get his attention, "We have to get this" I held the game up to his face, with my finger tapping the price.

So we got it.
This is the best decision, with regards to spending money on video games, I have ever made. The worst was buying Quest 64, jesus fucking christ what a piece of shit that was. Anyways, we burned myself and all our other friends copies of the game. I started playing Fallout the next day at about 11pm until about 3am. This repeated until I eventually beat it.

But honestly...okay, Final Fantasy Tactics was fun, lots of...tactics, and fun combat elements. Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 were great because of the depth of the characters, the free-range of customization, and the ways you could go about completing quests.

Fallout was like the love-child of Tactics and Baldur's Gate that was raised by Mad Max...and wolves.
After that I beat Fallout 2 and Fallout: Tactics. I was not disappointed by any of the games.

What was really great was when we discovered Tactics was multiplayer. We probably spent a week-solid getting drunk and playing the hell out of that game.

Makes me sad there's never been a game of Fallout with co-op. :|
 
A friend of mine found it at a friend of his, and we tested it, and it rocked! Later we found out that there was a F2, and it rocked even more :) (My friend also found it at his friend)

I has later become apparnt that my friend (former friend actually) stole F1 and F2 for his "freind", but he kept me in the dark. Anywho, I bought the games for myself later on :)

I started playing fallout 2 about 3 years ago :D at first I thought the game was a bit confusing, but when I got the hang of it I couldn't stop playing. Then, when I finished it, I bought fallout 1, and I got tacticts in a gaming magazine :D
 
I remember seeing the ads in PC Gamer for FO2 before it came out, and I thought it looked great. Snagged it when it arrived at my local video game store.

I then hunted down a copy of FO1.

Haven't looked back since.
 
I found Fallout 1 and 2 in the Gold Games 4 Collection. That was for....almost 8 years! I was 12 and very confused about Fallout 1 and then 2. I loved the pictures of the Vault Boy, I still remember when I saw the "Bloody Mess" trait the first time :D. And then the real game...I was a bit disappointed, I expected ... something else, because of the funny pictures.
So I just played a minute and never touched it again :(

For some months, i suddenly remembered about the Bloody Mess picture and the awesome skill system. I searched in the internet and I tried the old Gold Games 4 CD's. And they still worked. Now I am addicted of Fallout, and if I am done I will try Fallout 2 :)
