How did you discover Fallout ?

Back when it first came out, a friend of mine had bought a new pc, and he received a few new free games with it. Fallout was one of those games. I played it on his pc constantly. Then one day I saw Fallout 2 on the shelf of a local game shop. I lightened my wallet by what was near 40punts at the time (50+euro now?) and never looked back. Then I purchased the white label bundle recently as my old discs had taken a beating over the years.

Fallout still has that special place on my desktop.
 
When i watched the best game ever list in a finnish game magazine i saw Fallout 2 to be number one!! Then i knew i just had to buy it, now i own the white label pack and are very statisfied on it ;)
 
I remeber my first interaction with it was the fallout demo at a friends house, not quite sure the year.
Way later though I got fallout 2 from another friend remembering the demo. fell in love, play through it at least 2 times a year.
Played fallout 1 as well but not as much.
 
I was at a party and this hot gothic chick was playing it, so in trying to hit on her I watched her play. 5 or 6 hours later we realized neither of us knew who's PC it was or who's house we were in and everyone else had left, so she stole the game disk and we left. I never saw her again after that night but we'll always have fallout.
 
Wow...guess im old O_o....emmm well when i was younger i was going to the computer store almost every start of the month to see what new game came out and to buy the one that i wanted(at this age i was looking more at the box graphic and reading behind the box for info and all...there wasnt that much Pc gaming magazine at that time...well interesting one....and thinking about it now they just overhype most game in them) so i came across this cool looking guy in armor and thats what i wanted(thats how i bought most game and discovered so many beautifull game like master of orion,warcrafts and such)...so i had a hard time at first but i kept playing(not as much as let say warcraft) but ALOTS since i wasnt a big fan of RPG...then i finished it then 1 more time and then that pretty much the same story for Fallout 2...but i got hooked ALOTS more and played....errrmm seriously maybe 1000 time maybe MORE!!! MUAHAHAHAA

so yeah loved Fallout 1 but Fallout 2 is godlike for me for some reason...
 
in the biginning

Pretty much the same as the poster above me.

I've always been into post apoc type books. (The Deathlands series by Jamed Axler) played Land of Devistation If you have never Played LoD, you can find it on the net. May need DosBox to play it however if you don't already have it. LoD was one of te first games with an actual Graphics component and sound other than Dos beeps. Pretty cool game at the time. Still kinda cool.

Anyways....I saw Fallout on the shelf when it first came out and been playing every since. I have played both FO1 and 2 once it came out at least once a year ever since.
 
I first stumbled upon Fallout in some huge software store... Something like EB Games, or maybe it was something else, can't remember for sure. But at that time a was a pretty small kid, and got a wrong impression of the awesome Fallout universe when i looked at the jewel case pictures and short description.

I thought that the dude in power armor is just some
action hero fighting on city rooftops 0_o

Anyways, about half and year later i moved to a new school, where a new buddy of mine invited me home, where his brother was playing Fallout 2.

It looked real sweet. He was fighting some random encounter, and he was already a high level with a full party and everything. So they gave me a CD and i Installed it and played from that moment on.

I bought Fallout 1 a little later.
 
I went to Wal-Mart with mommy and said "two games for 10 bucks!!!! Mommy please!!!!!!!!"


i was like 8 or 9 but I loved that game and i've been playing ever since.

I've tried for like 9 years to get my friends to play but all this time every friend i've ever shown the game said that it was lame :(

it broke my heart to think i would never play another fallout because the world hated my favorite game ever :(

then i discovered this site and thought "theres other people who like this game too!!!"

This guy I talked to in my 7th grade wood shop class told me about it. He said "Yeah, it's a game where you can kill anyone!"

"Anyone?" I replied, as I'd never heard of such a thing.

"ANYONE."

To a 7th grader, having the ability to wipe out an entire town, children and all, is mind-bogglingly cool.
 
It started back when the Baldur's Gate came out, I watched my brother play through the entire series, once I was a bit older I started to really enjoy the style of game play. After completing the Baldur's Gate series for myself, I got Planescape Torment as a gift from my brother in 2006. Beat that about 4 times, really enjoyed it. Bought the Fallout Collection because it was reminiscent of the good ol' days of gaming (for me at least), when games where driven by more then graphics....Anyway it sat next to my copy of the Orangebox, until I did everything there was to do within the series of Half-Life 2/Team Fortress 2/Portal. So I brushed the disk case off and decided to pop in the disk and try this game out.

I started to play and I was completely captivated by Fallout, the retro-futuristic world was great, with the elements of stuff like the Vaultboy, 50's style artwork, the combat system, the storyline, and practically everything about the game screamed pure awesomeness. I did not pick up or play this game as soon as I should have, but better late then never right?
 
My uncle(who was a HUGE pc rpg fan, rather tsr fan) had fallout playing on his pc. At the time(I think I was maybe 9?) I saw him playing the game, and was intrested. I ended up recieving the demo(via pc gamer) and installed it on my pentium(I still actually had my 386. Good times) I think that was back in 97?

First time I actually heard of Fallout was in the old two page ads(God i loved those, dog city, Construction, Syndicate wars back when ads actually made you want to buy a game.) I was a junkie for video game media when I was a kid. (Weird thing that, I was eight years old when I recieved my first game magazine) Pc gamer used to be a magazine that was over 250 pages. Greg wasn't overused and coconut monkey was still funny. Anyway's, I remember a glitch in the demo were I used armor peircing bullets on people and for some reason got an unlimited amount of a.p(it would reset)

Wow, this story is makes me feel depressed. Glory days indeed
 
I got a copy of Fallout 1 free with my computer and was immediately hooked, so I got a copy of fallout 2 and tactics a few years later.

The best things in life are free. :D
 
I read a article in Game Informer.

I knew about Fallout for forever and a day. And I didn't own a PC when they came out(I had a old lap top that was black and white)

After reading that article(I even looked over anything talking about FO3 since I didn't care about it) I wanted Fallout bad...got it to go with my brand spanking new PC then DL'd the Childrens Path and have been stalking you people ever since.
 
Saw a combo copy of Fallout 1 & 2 in a local target when I was around the age of 15 or so, a few years later I couldn't find a copy of it, couldn't really order it from anywhere. So A friend gave me a copy he had turned to ISO format.


Needless to say, I R Now Hooked.

I wandered across in at wal-mart once upon a time in a case with both FO1 and FO2, later on I went on ebay and purchased FOT:BoS.
 
It was a sunday and i was bored of my mind. i had bought this new expensive computer, top of the line! with pentium 2-266 and a firiggin huge 4MB graphics card and a sound card and a microphone and... oh it was soo good; and i had bought it all myself; tooth, nail, soul, my unborn child and all (with now thinking about it my family putting the cash for about %40 of the price for my good performance at school... Remembering these details is so not cool :()
Anyway i had finished this awesome game about a blonde guy a golden gitl and monkeys, i had also finished the other game i had about a little girl runningaround in a "Edgar Allan Poe's" like city... There wasnt internet yet in my country (is it edible?) and the only gaming magazine was barely continuing to publish let alonse give cds...
So i was bored and got permission to go out and explore THE "boulevard". there was this very good place where you could buy hamburgers and fries and there were other cool places which sold things from funny shaped erazors to lego boxes. (there were also a lot of useless places that were displaying Designer suits and smilar useless shoes. !sneakers are the besT! ). There were big brothers and 2 big sisters who jumped around on skateboards too. it was nice to watch them...
So i went to see what new goodies the "Writing materials and toys and legos and little figurines selling" shops had to offer. In the biggest of them all, i found near music cassettes, in a forgotten deep corner, a little plastic tray with 20-25 cd boxes on it. They were all worn out but they were cheap. Heck if i skipped my planned hotdog and fizzy drink (and the bit of chocolate or the ice cream after it)... if i put in the emergency money and this little pennys... wow i can buy 2 games! so what to buy, what to buy... Ill buy this cool game and... well rest of these dont look too good. i guess ill try that cd-case with big robot-like head on it...

Later when i got home i installed the cool game and played it for about 3 days . it was a good game. Then i tried the other game... It had weird installation sizes... 1Mb/10MB/50Mb/600MB???... Well my monster has 3 gigabytes of space! it can take the biggest one!
And so i started playing Fallout....
