Mutated animals and insects too annoying.

maxpain

First time out of the vault
i prefer human enemies to any insects or animals.
Most of all, humans have more items to loot lol..

But i don't understand why all the mutated insects and animals are so strong? of course small geckos or ordinary radscorpions are not problems, but GIANT geckos or scorpions are horrible. Sometimes they are harder to kill than deathclaws. (deathclaw's attack is vicious but it can be killed easily with AM rifle)

fallout3 has kinda...balanced(?) enemy system.. like they were categorized by size and power. Enclaves are strongest =deathclaws>>brotherhood of steel>>mercenaries>>raiders>>radscorpions>>geckos...etc,.
So it was easy to decide how to attack which.

But in fallout NV, giant radscorpions are stronger and nastier than legion assassins. Caesar assassins are hard to beat, but easier than giant mutated animals or insects.
For me, it was easier to kill legate(forgot the name..the last enemy in Hoover dam) than giant geckos in DLC.

This is annoying.. not only there's not much too loot after i killed them, but how can even super mutants are weaker than this animals and insects?

I know, in original fallout series of interplay, geckos and insects were stronger than human. (fire gecko was my nightmare in fallout 2)

But in 3D version it kinda feels unbalanced and unrealistic and annoying to play. i guess Fallout 3 system was better in battle and enemy balancing.

Personal opinion..

With jsawyer and very hard, White legs, lobotomite, ghost people, marked men are quite scary.
Without DLC with light armor, Legion's assasins, NCR rangers, BOS paladins are quite strong foe. Though they are strong even with power armor though .

Fo3 was well balanced? What a dumb joke.
With invincible VATS, every thing is easy.

I play very hard mode. white legs were definitely easier than green geckos.

and i changed my title sorry.

For me, animals are not the annoying because of 9mm smg.
With grunt, mods and jhp, 9mm smg is best weapon for killing animals because it's dps is almost 400 . and I can buy bunch of 9mm from Great Khan.

For Fo3, ferral ghoul reaver and other two monster of broken steel is way more annoying enemy then enclave. Fo3 death claw isn't "death" claw, it's just "dead" claw

I used mini NUKE on green geckos. and they were still alive yet after first big kids hit. lol...

Second time i launched big kids it killed me..

It's the theme of Post Apocalypse genre. The mutated animals will be very dangerous to human health. A good PA game/novel always contain that..

If you think about it, that the underlying theme of all Fallout games: centaurs is one of the most dangerous enemies to encounter in the Wasteland, both F1. F2. FNV elevate many more animals than them, which is great.

True, I like human enemies better, but variety is nice.

i understand what you mean.

But i don't understand why deathclaws are roaming around above Good springs, i was killed several times when i traveled upward. (though people warned me not to go up, i didn't know it WAS deathclaws haha)
Goodsprings is starting point, my character is very weak.. but right beside there are deathclaws, giant radscorpions, cazadores..(shudder)

Maybe Obsidian was trying to describe 'real scary world', not game like world lol.........

The Deatchalws near (relatively near) Goodsprings come from Quarry Junction which was overrun by deathclaws weeks prior to the beginning of the game, the characters themselves explain to you and there are enough signs telling you "don't go there".

i know people warned me, saying about scary critters, and I ignored several signs cause of excitement of exploring.
Actually first thing killed me around Goodsprings is not deathclaws, it was cazadores flying behind Goodsprings.

like these.
Because you can get 9mm smg from michel's house, some ammo perchase from store and after that is matter of strategy.

Logically, you get warned from the northern road by Sunny Smiles. From the game's POV, you are a pretty reckless guy for ignoring a ranger's advice.

Before you encounter possible Sloan deathclaws you meet plenty of warning signs. Again, if you ignore them, you are reckless.

From the game's POV, you have no cause to complain if you get slaughtered by wildlife.

I was complaining about animals and insects are too strong than human, being killed by deathclaws was just a small talk, not my point.

yeah, reckless, i kept saying i ignored signs because of excitement, i was talking about so many creatures around Goodsprings are ridiculously strong include cazador and giant radscorpions.

What's your point? insulting me?

They Giant Scorpions and Cazadors are only to the north, a route that can take you fast to new Vegas but is dangerous as a sort of Meat grinder barrier, or were you expecting giant poisnous mutated bugs to be less dangerous than hairless monkeys? Deadly creatures in New vegas mostly stay in their designated habitats, so they can be avoided easily.

Since lots of animals has no DT, it's fun to spread lead with smg to slaughter them. problem is that giant scorpian is harsh enemy since it has great dt and poison. but with fire ax or love and hate(can obtain from where cazador have a party with body of fiends and khans.) and some strategy and control, it ins't that hard enemy. for prize, gecko give meat and skin, cazador's sting is quite expensive and make some useful drug with it, for scorpion a woman in primm can make good dish with thier tail.

If you think reckless is an insulting adjective, the chip on your shoulder is too big.

I totally agree with the OP. I always play Very Hard and jsawyer AND ironman (when i die i'm dead) - and mutated animals and insects are FAR more dangerous than human enemies. And it doesn't seem right to me.

When i see a target on ED-E's scope i'll sneak and be very careful to find out what it is before it see's me - if i see it's a human with a machinegun and armor i breathe a sigh of relief and kill it without trying. However, if it's a mutated animal or insect like a nightstalker or cazador, green geck i'll turn tail and run in fear of my life.

Even in a fantasy post-apoc setting this is pretty silly.

Hyperbole. if you have the patience for careful checking out targets, you have the patient to drink a Snakebite tourniquet just to be on the safe side. or break out the hazmat suit if youhave it.

Of course, nothing wrong to just skirt nightstalker or cazadores. no loot worth expending the ammo. And deathclaws are just scary. But fire ant? I need me some nectars. and fire breathing ants are a novelty. ditto with fire gecko.

Actually cazadors sting is quite valuable. I usually sell cazadors sting to buy 9mm ammo from Khan at low level.
