New Bethesda game - The Evil Within

Bethesda is just the publisher though? At least it seems like that.

Interesting is, but that has nothing to do with the developer, more in general, how more and more games actually invest in "real action trailers" instead of showing gameplay elements or what the games are about. So basically those trailers don't tell anything really. Started with completely "animated" trailers that in the end don't even really reflect the game, and then they moved over to real life trailers.

I would rather see those companies spend that money on the production on the games instead of such really expensive trailers which in the end just create hype and nothing else.

Again its not really about Bethesda or that game in particular. Just something I find a bit ... silly in general about the gaming industry.

OooooooOOooo

Shinji Mikami

Live action trailers are weird but I'm looking forward to seeing the game now! Thanks for sharing.

I really, REALLY hope Shinji is advancing the survival horror formula used in the first few Resident Evils, rather than reinventing it. I always thought a good evolution would be randomized item locations between games. Fingers crossed!

This is NOT a Beth game. Beth = publisher, Mikami's staff = developer.

Like Rage, made by ID, not Beth.

Also, it uses ID Tech 5, not any shitty Beth engine (TES & FO3/NV).

Looks interesting. I'm not a big fan of live action trailers, but the concept looks cool. I usually avoid survival horror games, because they tend to be more action than horror (read: Dead Space, newer Resident Evil). So I'm really hoping this game will scare me shitless and force me to use my brain to finish it.

Not entirely sure what I just saw. But to be honest, I am kinda looking forward to seeing how this will turn out.

Yes, Bethesda is just the publisher. Game is being made by Tango Gameworks which was bought by Zenimax a few years ago.

I'm looking forward to this quite a bit honestly; especially given my recent interest in the old Resident Evil games with only Code Veronica X, and 0 being the ones I haven't played of the main games. Though apparently I'm not missing out on much. Been enjoying most of them so far. Hopefully this does well enough so there might be a comeback of these games in particular, even if it is a particularly niche genre.

You should find a way to play them. I only heard good things about Code Veronica X (I will play it sooner or later, it is a matter of time), and I personally assure you that RE0 is a badass experience (the begining is a total torture, which is actually good, and from middle to ending the game stays hard but kinda more comfortable [aka: more ammo and healing avaliable]). Definitely worth renting/buying/borrowing a console to play it.

I've heard mixed opinions about CVX, and haven't heard much from 0. It doesn't seem to get anywhere near the amount of praise the REmake does (which I recently finished and enjoyed the hell out of), but I definitely plan on checking out both of them. I actually already have CVX, just haven't played it due to other games on my backlog.

In other news, some tidbits have popped up.

Edit: Ooops, apparently it's on the YT description -- tend to ignore those -- but I saw something neat that is from neogaf.

They also mention the game will have an in-depth world, and that you're being hunted by something mysterious and dark.

If this is true and it's anything like Mr. X or Nemesis, it'll be great. Though the description of "mysterious and dark" makes me imagine there will be something really different, maybe less direct and harder to evade and defeat (if possible).

CVX is good turrrust me. Not the best but worth a play or two at least.

My 2nd fav was nemesis.

REmake was the best.

the engine that bethesda uses is not shitty. and it is not theirs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamebryo

the current one is using the engine not from 2012, but from 2005 version.

bethesda does not license the most recent.

fallout 3 was the first game in the 2005 engine for bethesda. skyrim is the 2nd.

beth rarely purchases new licenses, and usually makes several games off a specific version. usually after the makers of it tell beth they wont support their old version anymore.

it is a really good engine, its just that bethesdas ability is shitty.

Not entirely true, Skyrim uses Creation Engine which is developed by Bethesda. But from what I understand, it's merely a modified version of the Gamebryo engine. Still not correct to say it's the 2005 Gamebryo engine however.

Mechanically, it is. Sure, it has some bells and whistles the older version didn't, but it suffers from the exact same problems older versions did.

Agreed. For instance, Defense Grid: The Awakening or Civilization IV speaks for itself.
