Fallout 3 pirated, videos spread

I watched 20 seconds or so of footage before stopping due to spoilers - but the part I saw were rad roaches attacking someone in Vault 101. The woman's response to being attacked was to go 'Arg!' 'What's going on?' 'Arg!' 'Arg!' 'What's going on?' 'Arg!' 'What's going on?'
And then she walked away as if nothing had happened to her. That's when I was first hit with the realization that RAI hasn't been improved at all.

They bought the IP because they were fans of the series.

Aren't we beyond believing that line.

Who do you think bought the IP anyway? Todd? Pete? They don't control the funds, Zenimax does. Big fans of Fallout at ZM? Who cares?

Todd and Pete fans? Eh, maybe. What I mean is I think someone high up in the company had to have been a fan in order for the purchase to get the green light or even be thrown on the table. You could say they bought it to run off the steam from F1 and F2, but that was long gone by the time they bought it. Hell, Tactics wounded the series and BoS killed it deader than Duke Nukem.

It would have been cheaper for them to dream up their own setting and sell it off as "By the makers of Oblivion" which is what they're doing now for all the console gamers who never heard of Fallout before.

Also, fans rarely agree on the topic of their fandom. Take D&D for example. There are alot of people who consider the older versions to be amazing and the new 4th edition to be nothing but bound, knocked off, world of warcraft esk pig shit. And there are gamers who think that 4th ed is the greatest thing ever and it's the game they allways wanted. Some of the guys in charge could still be Fallout fans. Just fucking asshole fans lacking in taste or an understanding of subtlety.

You'd think "what the hell were those", "oh thank you for saving me", and "Butch, why didn't you help me" would have been the first things out of her mouth.

The rad roaches appear at way too convenient of a time and it's pretty stupid, but that's a generic bad plot twist.

Well, they probably slipped into the vault while your dad was leaving it.

So he escaped when you were ten and came back so that for your birthday you could kill a radroach with your BB Gun?

Nah, I don't buy it.

Of course, that may be possible for when he escaped and the guards were after you. But than why was the door still shut and radroachs got passed all the doors?

Really don't like them including a bible passage, seems entirely unnecessary though I'm sure it's going to come up later.

Oh for crying out loud... this could be the straw that breaks the camel's back and makes me cancel my preorder. I mean WHAT THE SHIT!!11one

God, I just assumed this game would be better than 90% of games put out because it had to be semi-fallouty, and they put a fucking bible passage in it. /end rage, I gotta go find a video with this in it

Seriously? A bible passage and you're done? Seriously? What are you afraid of the bible?

There have been games that use quotes of the bible. None come to mind, but it's just a verse. It's not like it's telling you to worship god, there is no Church quest, or read verses such-and-such.

It's just a game.

Well that's what I'm saying, I need to see the context of the quote. But yeah I do have some basic beefs with Christianity, nothing I wouldn't extend to other faiths.

Look I have this dream (which will probably never come true) that video games, instead of isolating people and instilling national myths in the youth of today, could encourage critical thinking about the society we're a part of. I think the first fallouts started moving in that direction. But if this game turns into holy knights / space marines going out shooting the evildoers I will not be happy.

Ah, well enemy A.I. is just spiffy. Watching one of these feeds, a guy is wandering around underground, and comes upon a fire ant. He proceeds to shoot at it with V.A.T.S. (incidentally, body still has a rating of 59%, while the head is 85$, and a small back leg is 95%, figure that one out), misses, shoots in normal mode, kwa-pings off a wall behind the ant, then finally shoots it smack dab in the forehead.

Ant doesn't even twitch from its position. Simply sits there looking around, attenae twitching. Took him two more shots to kill it (sniper rifle), and it never moved from place.

What, are some enemies suicidal now?

Didn't one of the reviews say that there are churches in the game you can donate funds to, and lower your bad karma?

Just WTF is going on with this game. Seriously.

Uh... I don't think so. In one of the loading screens in one of the videos (the ones that appear before the very beginning of the game, if I remember correctly), a small line of text can be seen in the down-left corner, put as some kind of advertisement about the Vaults, which reads something like: "The Vaults (...) where nothing can enter or leave, with the exception of the eventual radroach attack" (not the exact words)

So, no. Nothing to do with daddy, I suppose.

Oh man. That's just nitpicking. There ain't nothing wrong with quoting the Bible, and this coming from a pure blood atheist.

The Bible is a book, a literary work. There's nothing wrong with quoting a literary work.

Also: I've been watching some of the vids and I'm not impressed at all. Things that really annoy the heck out of me (and I'm not even playing it, so go figure):

- The loading screens: they pop up constantly. Maybe that's because the comps in question can't run the game properly, but I have a feeling it just maight be a normal thing as well

- The voice acting: oh my gawd. And the lip sync is often abominable.

- VATS + melee: maybe some players just suck at combat, but VATS for melee weapons seems to be a joke so far.

- The general atmosphere: too crowded. One of the reasons I like FO and - to a lesser extent - FO2 so much, was the profound sense of loneliness the game gave me. Nothing like that in FO3. It's like a party and everyone's invited - but in a bad way. Seems you shoot some raiders, walk 20 metres and already encounter a couple of super mutants. Run away and there's a bunch of giant ants just around the corner. No. Just no.

Yes, the portrayal of religions in general (and Christianity in particular) seems very positive in Fallout 3, as opposed to a much more cynical approach to religion (and to authority in general, actually) in previous Fallouts.

Even the cult that worships a bomb?

I'll clarify this point one more time, I haven't been very clear.

Yes, the bible is a literary work. I don't think that's its most defining characteristic, though. Its most defining characteristic is as the main religious text for Christianity. See what I'm saying? If they just wanted literary they could bust out Joyce or something.

This is just my perspective as a US Citizen, we got a lot of rah rah waving the flag bullshit over here. It's died down over the last few years, but not in video games - plenty of U.S. soldier killing evildoers and space marine variations on that. And with this game being set in the capital, the celebration of violence during the previews with the military music, the Brotherhood of Steel being a force for Good in the world fighting Evil, this game is starting to push some seriously bad buttons for me. And maybe I'm just being touchy, I'm sure there are some counterpoints, like the remnants of the US government are the bad guys. But I think it's more the underlining ideologies that I have a problem with, good vs. evil, faith over rationality, violence as sport.

Well I saw the 5 youtube videos and I thought the game looks pretty neat. Liam Neeson's voice acting is great and they have done a wonderful job of converting the vault into 3D. As a start area it's in my opinion a great idea to start it in the vault and the subsequent escape.

From the videos I don't see any big difference between the original games and this game, and I can't comment if it looks like Olivion since I didn't play that game.

About the game being pirated. I can't find the game on the trackers where I'm a member so it doesn't exactly seem like it's actually released, but correct me if I'm wrong. Bethesda should be happy if there's only one guy who has it at the moment.

Yeah you're right I just found it :|

Anyway no I'm not kidding you, well besides the obvious FPS graphics of course.

Yeah, I found it within about a minute of looking in five different places.

Heck, someone earlier in the thread quoted a guy in the comment section of one of those torrents. Asking if this was a shooter or an rpg.

The fact he even had to ask is sad.

Yeah, I never would have bothered doing everything in Uncharted before the trophy system was implemented, but I'll be damned if I don't have the platinum trophy now. I do wonder if you can set the PS3 to not notify when you get a trophy... be right back

F2 didnt have any achievement system and yet many people went mad about finding new ways and secrets.

if a game is intresting enough to play, it doesn't need any "achievement" system.

If you want to put it on Xbox your going to have Achievments. Besides, realisticaly your looking at what? a half hour to a days work for one person to code that in?

Yeah the Achievements aren't anything exclusive to Fallout 3, every single xbox360 game has them (correct me if I'm wrong) and releasing one without them would simply be weird. They probably put some guy and gave him like a lunch break to come up with them or something, I can't imagine they gave all that much thought to them.

Some more great stuff from the stream!

So, you get very close to death after fighting a Super Mutant. What to do?

1) Fast travel to Megaton without any danger.

2) Go to:

a) the local doctor, and pay 100 (or was it 200) caps to get him to patch you up

or

b) go to your house and sleep in your bed for an hour and recover all your health!

Choices, choices... Remember though, you can't sleep in a bed that's owned by anyone else!
