'Mad Nation' Post-Apocalyptic TV show Megathread

Putt some oil on those jeans. That usually does the trick (not to mention, that your body always has some fat in it. This goes into the clothes in time).

Sandpaper + old motor oil (not too much sanding though)
________
BREAKUP ADVICE ADVICE

I've used sand paper on them actually, on the seams and pockets (the pictures don't really show this) but the motor oil is a cool idea, I'll try it. The problem is that I can do too much to the jeans I'm wearing now, since I've already started shooting and thus would screw up continuity (since my jeans would be going back and fourth between being new and old looking), but I'll do what I can.

Have a scene where you fall in some motor oil in a fighter or some is knocked over. Make it part of the movie.

I'll probably just touch them up using this method in that case. I have to check over the footage and make sure it wouldnt cause a continuity problem. And I can't have it just happen in a fight or something because I'm not filming the scenes in order: I still have to do the first, third, fourth, and last 2, so it would not look right.

EDIT: Finally uploaded the picture of the outside of Marcus' shack. Whatcha think?

House.jpg

Well... the shack. In my mind all the buildings in a post-apocalyptic world shelter you from something. Sunlight being one, dust another. Not mention evil geckos. I don't think that shack looks like something after a a-bomb... It's too fresh (then again, the filter might repair that problem).

+ Woods...man woods...unless you can pry barbequed squirrels out of the tree, I think it wouldn?t have made through the fallout.

If those trees are alive you should probably watch your back while in there.. Wouldn't want to be chased by a forest of spike shooting mutated lumber now would ya'?!

The shack is perfect in my opinion. Except...Maybe a lot of dirt or something. I know! A bunch of sand in front so it looks like the desert is growing up to the point of the shack and the forest!

The way I justify the presence of woods is that not every last inch of the globe was hit by the bombs. I figure that in a war situation, only the major city areas would be obliterated totally. So I assume that there'd be patches of unhurt land between where the bombs hit. Now, I agree, the trees should be dead, but I also point out that there were live trees in Fallout 2. There's no reason why live foliage wouldn't come back after a certain period of time. Throughout the movie, references are made to the fact that the wastland is ocasionally intersperced with 'ancient forriests' that have regrown from the soil where the old forrists that were spared by the bombs were. Marcus lives in one such area. Also, to justify the 'freshness of the shack, it's feasable that an old shed that was built, or rebuilt, in said ancient forrests might last longer than buildings in the wasteland. You can't see it in this picture, but the whole back wall of the shed has been rebuilt, fallout style: there was only vertical studs left of the wall, the rest having been rotted away, and the edge of the roof is falling off. I used plywood sheets and corrigated Iorn (again, ala-junktown) to half-ass rebuild the wall. It looks pretty good from the inside, with a few openings for 'windows' that are screened off with grungy fabric (see pictures of shack interior).

There's a point about 50-100 yards away from the entrance of this shack (from the POV of the photo, it'd be off to the right0 where the trees suddenly end and a sand pit begins. It's visable between the trees, and recogniseable. I'm thinking of including it in the additional scene with Marcus. It really is a sudden end to the trees that turns into desert. Pretty perfect and similar to what you're sugesting.

More stuff. Opening Scene. Lookie and coment.

Second picture, top left corner: Is that an airplane trail? Otherwise, really nice!

add: ...and isn't there yet another one in your avatar?

Yeah, it might be a plane trail, though I was keeping an eye out for them while shooting. :? But later on in the story there will be a paramilitary group similar to the Enclave that will have airplanes, so there will be justification for the ocasional airplane trail or distand passing vehicle. Good way to cover my tracks :)

And avitar is one of several photos I took for fun that will eventually be the cover of the DVD case. You may notice that this also has a plane trail, which I purposely left in. I may decide to take it out in photoshop later, but I thought it looked nice so for the moment it stays.

Well, the day has come that I put this movie temporarily on the back burner. I'm moving into my new appartment for college and starting classes soon, and won't have much time before I move away to finish this whole thing. But I will be picking up production again when I come home for vacation in late December, and also hope to do a scene or two over the weekends after I get settled in at school. I happen to be going to college in a really economically depressed city (www.fsc.edu in Fitchburg, Mass.) with plenty of abandon buildings and trashy streets, so I might even get some nice cinematic stuff for the traveling sequences. Only time will tell.

But a note to the moderators: I will eventually finish this movie, so please don't vat this thread. When I first started this thread, Wooz mentioned to me that there have been threads on movie productions before, but they have often been abandoned and eventually vatted. I know how tough it is to make movies of any kind, let alone movies that require unusual locations and costumes etc etc. But I am doggedly loyal to my work and the small group of fans my previous movies have created, and I'm going to finish this one. So nobody out there forget about me and check back every once and a while because there will be updates :) . And otherwise, thanks very much to everyone for actually taking an interest, and soon enough you'll all be able to download my movie and see the results.

NEW UPDATE as of SEPTEMBER 30th, 2005

In a quick blitz, I finished another scene that you folks havn't seen pictures of yet. It's the scene where Todd, the bartender, asks Gray to go find the missing girl Jessie. Origionally it was supposed to be Jessie's mom, Lola, but I cut out the character because the actress to play her was being uncooperative. Is that even a word? Nevermind, anyway, this is a shot of Gray in the doorway of his hotel room. I'll have more pictures when this is done being edited.

Graylife.jpg

The thing I like about this scene is that at the last minute I improved a bit and added a couple lines to the script (to make up for the sudden character change) and now I've got a whole new plot twist: Gray has no memory of who he is or where he came from. In this scene, Todd asks Gray if he has a family, and Gray says "Not that I can recall" in a tone that sugests there's more to that statement than you hear. Later in the movie, Jessie will ask him where he's from and he'll explain that the farthest back he can remember is waking up in the desert, unhurt, with nothing but a broken pocket watch and the clothes he's wearing. What happened before this we'll never know. I dunno, anyone else like that idea?

So I've got four more scenes to finish, 3 of them being easy ones and the fourth being the big ass fight scene at the end which I probably will end up having to either cut down drastically or replace with something easier. Oh, and also, a friend of mine has made a TRAILER for this movie, so whenever I find a website to upload it to for free download, you'll all be notified thus. Keep an eye on this thread for news and thanks for taking an interest.

UPDATE, OCTOBER 27, 2005

I'm currently scouting locations for the ruined city sequences, as well as for the ending fight that takes place in a ruined farm. There's a lot of abandon factories that look perfect and very Hub-ish in Fitchburg (ma), so I'll probably be coming up with some sweetness soon. Also going to be working hard in Garage band to create the music for the movie, as well as working on finishing off the trailer so I can have something to keep you folks interested. Will keep you all posted.

November update

Went to Salem Ma last night for haloween as Gray. Here's some amuzing pictures of me and my two companions, both of whom are cast members on the movie.

BatmanBegins.jpg
My pal Kevin, as superman. He's one of the three (the big guy) who attacks me in the opening scene.

CopyofKevinwee.jpg
My pal Anthony, who will be staring in a comedy short to be on the DVD. We put this in B&W just because his outfit would be more recognisable as Kevin from 'Sin City'.

Me annoying the evangelicals that were protesting the existance of haloween.

I bought some software for musical scoring, so now I can make a soundtrack that will not get me suied. It won't be long before you guys see a trailer for the movie. Keep in touch. Also, if anyone kn ows where I can find a website that will let me upload a pretty large video on for free, or a good program for compressing video, please let me know, and I'll give you a cookie. No, seriously, a real cookie.

Looks great... and inventive. Very inventive. All you need now is a two headed brahmin and rats the side of a dog and your good to go.

Kudos, my friend... This should encourage other would be Post apoc directors on this forum.

The props are way cool... and I think they have Actual guns used in hollywoods that can utilize blanks... and they have a nice fair sum to them... Or good ol' airsoft guns can do in a pinch.

The movie stills look awsome. I can't wait to see the trailer and finished product. I'll send you a PM in regards to the hosting issue...maybe help you out alittle if I can.

Yeah, Blank Firing guns are alright so I've heard, never used them myself because I can't afford them. But Airsoft, I have an Airsoft Desert Eagle that I use in this movie, the bartender carries it. It looks pretty sweet.
