'Mad Nation' Post-Apocalyptic TV show Megathread

I think What he's trying to say, is that he's looking for more dark and gloomy scenes...

I also felt that the the movie was a bit too well lit to be post apoc.... no flickering lights... lack of electricity would necessitate lanterns and candles...

Several of the scenes are lit with oil lamps. But the lamps don't give off enough light to get a clear picture, so I light the set better than I want it to look, then in post production I tint the lighting and increase the shadow contrasts. I wouldn't have to do this if I could afford a half decent lighting set up, but what can you do?

The Bar scenes are very dark, and the hotel room scene will be moreso when it's done. Were there any particular examples that you guys are talking about?

Looks awesome. And I've seen a billion of these. My only problem is you look too much like a roommate I had in college.

You should show him the movie and try to convince him that I'm his long lost brother...from space.

I noticed that all the actors seem to be around the same age, do you plan on having some older or younger actors in the movie? (like maybe someone around 60 or 65ish)

and some young children that keeps stealing from you when you try to get pass them... ggrrrrr

and if you steal from them the only thing you'll find is those darn rocks!

This is because all the actors I know are 17-22 years old. If I can find some older people, than I'd love to involve them. Through a little make up and hair dye, I tried to make my friend Pat look as old as possible (his character, Marcus, is supposed to be 50ish) but it didn't work amazingly well. Gray is supposed to be around 28, Jessie is supposed to be 16, and the rest of the characters have unspecified ages. So far nobody looks the age they should, but that's one of the things that I can't help much since I don't have any good make up people.

EDIT: Think of this as being similar to the Euro version of Fallout, without kids. But hey, if anyone has ideas on how to make people look convincingly older with makeup, feel free to let me know.

Side Note of Interest:
Since I needed a final project for my film/video class, I will by the end of this week have a short movie made and probably published online by the 21st. This picture is not post-nuke: it's a short gangester movie. I hate doing gangster movies because they are so over played around here (everyone loves Quinten fucking Tarentino), but I had to do this because my crew bailed on me so I needed an easy idea at the last minute. It could have been much better, but I like it. So I'm putting it on my website, and anyone interested in seeing my directing style and acting can feel free to download it. It will probably be 5-10 minutes long.

New Update:

Next week beins my vacation, post christmas. We will be shooting at least one, hopefully three scenes over the course of the next three weeks.

The critical scene is the one where Gray meets and fights a cult member, which is the one I'm gonna try real hard to do next week. Sadly I need a new location, since a major highway just opened within easy earshot of my old one. However I've got plenty of space to look for one, and with any luck I can find myself an abandon building for the bit. Also, I'm adding a new character, one who will only play a small roll in this episode but a larger roll in the sequil. He's a con-artist/thief type who serves as comic relief but also is a half decent fighter. So with any luck I'll get a scene involving an encounter with him. And there's also another scene with Marcus that'd be nice to work in somewhere. So I'm gonna have a bussy month.

Also, in order to generate a little more discussion on here and get some ideas, is there anything in particular you'd all like to see in the movie? The plot is pretty much laid out already, but if you have any ideas about things you'd like to see with regaurd to the world in which the story takes place, enviornments, locations, costumes, props, any particular themes that should be explored, etc etc.

Also, for those who have mentioned an interest in buying the DVD, here's some info:

Predicted release time: Spring 2007; although I'm being generous
with time, there's a lot of shooting left, and also there's plenty of
rewriting, editing, reediting, general fucking around, and robbing
of banks to fund it all.

Total movie lenth: 60 minutes, hopefully. Any longer will drag, and
any shorter will be too quick to do the story justice.

Director's comentary: Will be there, probably by myself or possibly
with a cast member or crew mate.

Deleted/Extended Scenes: None yet, but you never know.

Outtakes reel: Definately.

Feature short: There's gonna be a brief comedy skit also, as is
traditional of my DVDs. It's gonna be about one lonely traveler
trying to get into Canada (which is still a working republic, with a
wall built around it keeping all non-canadians out).

Subtitles: So far, I've been offered to have subtitles writen in
Russian and in Italian. I have to find out how many subtitle
tracks I can get away with, but I'm defiately going to have as
many as I can. Any voulunteers to help with it drop me a private
message.

If anyone has any recomendations, feel free to mention them.

i like this trailer it looks quite mysig

Thanks, although I'm unsure what you mean by 'mysig'.

But anyway, latest update:

Filling in holes here and there in the shooting and fixing a few script details over my winter break from school. If the weather is nice this weekend, hoping to shoot another full scene. If that gets done, then we'll have one more scene to do for the middle bit of the movie, then we'll have the ending to finish over the summer.

So here's a question for you all: Would you interested readers want to see more of the movie now, in the form of an advanced screening of one of the scenes, or would you prefer to just wait til it's all done? I have a lot of real good stuff here, but I usually refrain from actually publishing more than the trailer until all is said and done. But I might be able to let a few little clips or one full scene out if you potential viewers are getting impatient. Also, I'm hoping to put my most recent works on my website shortly, they being the projects I did for school last term.

So all those in favor of seeing more of the movie, fuckin' say so. All those who'd like to see some of my work so they know what kinda work I do, fuckin' lemmie know. And all those who just want me to shut up and finish the movie, tell me to shut up and finish the movie.

He could be meaning "cozy".

Ofcourse we want to see more stuff!

I don't mean a spoiler, I mean a little clip of things to come...kinda like the sort of thing they'd show on Late night talk shows to generate hype for an upcoming movie.

Well, apparently I've gotten a mention on the spanish NMA equivalent, The Lost Vault:

http://lostvault.webcindario.com/comment.php?comment.news.53

I'd like to make a point clear to all those who see this thread or my website and would like to make mention of it on their own websites: Everything you see on this thread is either already or soon to be copywriten in my name, meaning it's illegal to use it without my permission. That being said, I don't mind if you do this. If I find anyone passing my work off as their own, or stealing from me in any other way, that's totally different, but I don't mind at all if you mention me and show my work on your websites. I do ask that you let me know ahead of time though, just so I can keep track of where my work is being published. Even though this site is directly linked to NMA, it still took me a while to find out about my movie being mentioned there, and my website being linked, so in the future just try to let me know haha.

Also, I do indeed speak enough spanish to read this page (bairly), and apparently some of those folks in Spain like my movie. Thanks a bunch for your interest.

Also, I know a couple of people have already offered to do subtitles for me, but as I remember no one yet has offered to do them in spanish. Anyone interested? You'd have to do is take the transcribed lines from the movie when it's done and re-write them in spanish. It'd be a bit of work, but if two or three people decide they want to help, you'd be able to get it done pretty easily. You'd also get your name on the credits if that means anything to you heh.

Yeah ;)

At the moment three users (included me :P) offer to create subttitles for this movie .

For i can red in the post, you mentioned the movie is your work , and in your webpage , sorry for this , the guy post the news will you hare creating the movie in NMA ... im post another new , whit the good information ;)

For your post , thank you a lot very much for vear in mind at the Spanish User, the real is that we are a few but we are very interesting in this fantastic world called Fallout.

You have our support , and we are wishing to see you film.

See you from Spain by me and all E.S. and A.M

Salut ;)

Due to a new load of computer troubles, I have been slowed down in my editing and also in updating here, but I'll give you all a quick rundown of what's going on:

My computer is shitting its pants on me every time I try to use it, and I've worked out that it's almost definately a hardware problem. But don't worry: it's not hard drive related, so the movie is safe and sound.

As soon as I can get a copy either off my own computer or off my back up machine at my parent's home, I'll finish working the kinks out of the script and then I'll be able to get the new version copywritten (since the old one has a couple less scenes). Once that's done, I'll split the script into 5 or 6 parts, and email those parts off to the translators , then when the translators are done, I'll a couple of language professors at my school look over the final translation to correct any mistakes in dialect or grammar that might come up.

As for shooting, I'm hoping to maybe schedual a shooting date for some time in the next few weeks to do one more scene, the fight between Gray and the Cult member he meets in the desert. It only just now occurs to me that it's something like a random encounter, heh. With editing, pretty much everything we've shot so far is edited, atleast as far as I can remember, though I havn't gotten a look at the project file on my computer for a few weeks due to the crap it's been giving me.

I'm bringing my computer to a new shop on tuesday to see if they'll make it happy. As soon as it's up and running again, I'm putting the production into overdrive so we can hopefully get this movie done by the end of the summer.
