More Fallout 3 Concept Art

It gives me a little hope in that such an expansive and complicated vista would be difficult to do for a first-person game without looking like crap, so maybe.. isometric...

Yeah I know. Wishful thinking and all that.

Kind of reminds me of Speed 2, what with the huge ship in the middle of the city.

But it's a good piece of art. Again, doesn't really have the Fallout feel, but the stranded carrier which seems to be inhabited is really well done. A bit Waterworld-like.

I believe it's supposed to resemble the tanker in F2. It even depicts a similar time of day as the tanker video.

well dont know what to say about the buildings ... they are an accurate projection to some extent of what people thought future buildings might look like back in 1950 but i was hoping for more pre-war architecture style - yknow more 1920s in build style ... i like it a lot but .. its making me nervous settingswise

That'd be kind of odd, since a tanker and an aircraft carrier are..well, completely different in everything except the 'we float on water' bit.

Not that it neccessarily means anything, but, the last 2 concept art pieces have been from a high, far away angle....almost "isometric".

Well I mean in concept. Both are large formerly mobile ships turned into rusty relics and inhabited.
Granted the tanker moves again while that relic won't.. unless it can fly. Which I wouldn't put past Bethesda.

What bothers me is that in all three pics there almost no life. The lights inside that aircraft carrier(and arguably few buildings in the far on the previous peice) are the first signs of life.

For me somehow, one of the trademarks of fallout atmosphere is life in the ruins, making living space trough modifying and using ruined infrastructure, and making some new structures recycling the old materials. So far, only the ship is doing this.

Hm, this is probably my favourite piece of art so far. It still doesn't feel 100% Fallout-ish, but I wonder if we'll be seeing any of that kind of more up close and "personal" artwork from this artist. Huge, wide vistas seems to be the main thing so far.

Anyways, I like this a lot. Still think a lot more could be done for all 3 pieces of artwork with a more ambient score playing over them.

In this pic's case, the only lights being on the carrier is logical; people would band together inside it for protection while shunning the ruins outside, and it's nuclear reactor would presumably provide all the power they need. Something perhaps they're not willing to share with outsiders.

yes, but given the time period, wouldn't be logical that they'd expand outside the carriers space, and start inhabiting and securing the outside area (while the carrier is still the core of the newly-born settlement) ?

Er...we don't know the time period. At all.

That'd depend on when it's set, what the outside threats are, what their mindset is and if the concept art is accurate at all to the game.
We'll have to see...

Actually it reminds me of a post-apocalyptic anime.. MD Geist I think it was, where survivors hid in a crashed starship and wouldn't dare leave because of the threats outside (in their case, a horde of genocidal self-replicating robots).

The buildings with the floors supported by an internal skeleton and no outer support or framework are only possible with glass skyscrapers.
