Tim Cain interview on Matt Chat, part 3

However, I'm not enthused about his working on another MMO... like we need another one on the market.

While i agree with you, i'm interested to what hes going to try bring to the table as far as uniqueness is concerned. He believes the RPG part of MMO's is often left out, which is true, so im curious since he wants to change that..

usually googling it, clicking more search option to the side, choosing with pictures show you the "stock" and few mouse fast middle click and CTRL+W will get you what you want in 2min top's.

The fact that he has been working on it for 5 years and still not a bit of info about the game has been released is what interests me as that is already in the upper range of development time for a game. I can only see this as a good omen in regards to it's quality.

and i also agree with you. every mmo i've played (trials only) seem to be devoid of good RPG mechanics. and nothing worse than just grinding for no real reason. interactivity with the worlds also seems fairly limited usually. however, he may be able to break that hideous genre.

and while i am curious to play it, i can't resign myself to the mmo pay-schemes. not really interested in buying a game then having to pay monthly just to play it, that always seemed crazily stupid to me. guild wars was an exception but it got really boring. and how can i forget fonline:2238! except the unrelenting rape i experience every time i play (though i finally bought a base, bitches!).

It was a nice interview set, too bad it's over, i would've liked that he elaborated a bit more on Arcanum and TOEE. Too bad he's working on an mmo as well.

Why can’t one of the Adim at NMA interview Tim, he strikes me as a decent human being, and it won’t hurt to ask – calling Brother None - Per…

About, y'know, how he's doing and all that shit :P

I would prefer to see an interview with Boyarsky.

I'm a little drunk. But, I love Tim Cain. He answered many questions I've had for a long time. I love specifically what he said about MMORPG's and how there isn't much of an RPG element in them. I hope his game includes these features. I love you all and thanks for the news posts. :)

*holds up lighter*

ENCORE ENCORE!!!!!

WE WANT MORE!

Seriously, it feels like he was still in the middle of talking when the interview ended.

Because those clips are usually being edited to fit with the whole clip (where the structure of questions etc, to interest the viewer, are what they focus on).

This got me all excited to finish Arcanum. Thanks for the tips about gog. (wow, 5.99? I don't feel guilty--I already bought it once at full retail. :) )

Something to do from now until about November when the new games actually come out. Well, besides finishing my first playthrough of, um... oh dear I'm playing several games aren't I. Gothic 3, KOTOR 2, Torment... NWN 2... wow I'm a bit of a retro game slut, apparently.

Just bought Arcanum after watching this video :D
The intro/gameplay are just so Fallout-y that I had to check it out.

Timmy seems like a nice guy. And I really liked what he said about F3 :)

I love Arcanum, but that wonderful "tightness" of Fallout 1 sure is nowhere to be found in Arcanum. It's a really messy game but it probably has the best roleplaying I know of in a cRPG.

There's a fair amount of stuff they could've cut down a bit though.

Thank you for the link.

It's quite refreshing to hear someones opinion on Fallout 3.

Mr. Cain seems like a likeable sort, and quite enthusiastic talking about his old work.

Thank you Tim for doing the interview.

Re: Arcanum Art

I agree. I don't know of many good places that still have a ton of Arcanum art anymore, but here's an archive of the old official site:
http://www.terra-arcanum.com/sierra/

Lots of screenshots and cool stuff there.

Thanks I am an Arcanum noob, only finished it once (yet). I have an aversion for the high fantasy setting in general but for this game I gladly made an exception. :)

I think the same could be said of Fallout 2 as well. They both start pretty tight, but gradually unravel, until, by the time you get to San Fran in FO2, the wheels have fallen completely off the cart. I'd agree Arcanum gets sloppy in the latter stages. People always fault the character system, but I love Arcanum's character system, I think it's one of the better original ones in a cRPG. I'd rather the later stages of the game be better balanced to keep things from getting so sloppy.

"But if you mean my favourite part of the final games, it’s a close call between the ending of Fallout 1 where you kill the Overseer and the scene in Fallout 2 where you travel back in time and accidentally break the water chip in Vault 13. Both are wonderful scenes, but very different emotionally."

uh, i think i missed the time travel in Fallout 2... when and where was this? i assumed it was cut out, yes?
